A Weekend Visitor

Spike

Last weekend, Henry had a weekend visitor. His name is Spike. Spike is a young 7 year old, one eyed pug (who looks very much like a young Henry). Spike is currently in foster care and looking for a good home. (Any takers out there?) The lovely people at Central Florida Pug Rescue were kind enough to allow us to give Spike a test drive. He is literally a perfect pug! The question then, I am sure, why didn't we keep him? Well, we were considering a buddy for Henry. And even after a few days, Henry still did not warm up to the young whippersnapper and Spike really was not so interested in our old man, either. So, it just wasn't a match. If the decision was exclusively that of the OBP people, Spike would not have gone back. But Henry was the one to have a final say. And he just never got on board the Spike boat.

Henry and Spike

Henry has been physically fine for a good while now but emotionally he's still kind of bummed. We knew that the only thing we really had left to try was a new BFF for him. Turns out he's not really interested. We've seen him be uninterested in other dogs, but we thought maybe if another dog came to the house then MAYBE he'd warm up to the idea. Dogs being pack animals and all, we thought he'd like to rebuild his pack. But it just was not meant to be. Between what we know about dogs and pugs and what so many other people have recommended we try for Henry, we thought maybe another dog would bring the joy back to him. Since there is so much to share, stay tuned this week for more stories about the weekend with Spike. It will probably take the whole week to share the saga.

We hope (and we know) that Spike will land a great home. He was so sweet (and even gave hugs!), is fully housebroken, rarely barks (CFPR said they have never seen him---but I got it on video. See below.) and he is recovering from a skin irritation leaving his chest a little bald, but there's nothing wrong with a bare chested sweetie!

Again, this is one of those stories where I'll tell the end before the beginning. So bear with me. smile

Aww, Spike looks like a sweetie!  Too bad Henry didn’t take to him; I guess he must be too set in his ways.

Oh my stars, Spike is precious!  I’m so sorry it was a bromance match!  I know that Spike will get to his forever home soon.

I don’t want to comment too much on this.  Spike does seem to be a real sweetie.  I notice that both Henry and Spike have their backs turned to each other.

I am waiting for the rest of the week to see the “rest of the story”.

Hi, I’m the adoption coordinator for Central Fl. Pug Rescue. We were hoping that Spike and Henry would be friends, and perhaps that would have happened in time, but it’s OK. Spike had a great weekend and is happy to be back in his wonderful foster home.  We know that someone will fall in love with him and his forever home will be right around the corner.  Thank you for letting the pug world know about sweet Spike. We really appreciate it. <3

Sorry it didn’t work out…he looks like a sweet boy:( Maybe Spike felt uncomfortable in a new place and maybe Henry wondered who the new guy was???

Glad we got to meet Spike, I know he will have that loving forever home real soon. Henry just might be okay by himself for now. QUESTION: I am having a heck of a time finding food Daisey & Solsie will eat. Have tried several brands and they just won’t eat. Especially Solsie- highly unusual for a pug. Pug hugs from pastor sue & the Colorado 2

What great big, good hearts you have!  I’m sorry it didn’t work well.  That must have been disappointing.  It’s a complicated situation that Henry is in, and I know you want what’s best for him.

Spike looks like a great boy!  I wish him good luck in finding his forever home. Maybe someone will see him here, and that would be just wonderful!

Spike is to die for.

Love to you all!

I’m certainly no expert but if they weren’t fighting, well, maybe they just need more than a weekend to get to know each other.  We’ve been a multi-dog home for a lot of years and very seldom have we seen two dogs “take” to each other right off the bat.  Maybe if Spike gets another shot at it, he will discover he likes Henry after all.  Or vice-versa.  Just sayin’.

Maybe they just need more time?! We had a grumble of four before we rescued our old fella. He and a female did not get along for about a month. Now they are inseparable and can always be found snuggling. smile
