Back To The Grind

Henry

Well, we are still working on getting Henry back to his schedule. We had a big staycation over the holidays! G'Ma and G'Pa were here for a bit. And the peeps were off most of that time and thru January 4th, too. While we tried to keep Henry on some sort of schedule, the fact is that someone was always with Henry during that time. And now he has to tough it out home alone for a few hours each day. Let's just say that is not the lifestyle he has become accustomed to living. So, we are back to the old grind and working him back into an uncomfortable state of affairs. He is trying hard, though. The first few days were pretty rough (and I must say very sad to watch on the camera as he raced around the house "looking" for anyone to be home, barking with some panic at the sofa for someone to be there to pet him and them grumbling with displeasure as he realized that no one was in the office chair either.

You could literally see the lightbulb go off in his head when he not only realized that he was (cue the theme music---dunt dun dun) ALONE! It was somewhat relieving, however, to also see him work on his problem solving and coping skills. He went to the laundry room door where he knows Grammy pops up when she gets there. He raced to the front door to try to catch the reflections of light that he depends upon to alert him to someone coming in the driveway/garage. So, back and forth he went. He was indeed somewhat frantic the first day (or 4) but I write with the knowledge that we see each day getting better and the faith that he will continue to progress back to his old routine in a short while. In the meantime, stay strong Henry! You've got this buddy. #HenryStrong

Well, if it wasn’t already hard enough for Henry’s peeps to go back to work, it must have been harder yet seeing Henry having a hard time getting back in the work-groove.  I’m very happy that you could see him working it out for himself to cope.

Poor Henry. Poor you. We are going through a similar situation. We moved to a more people/pug friendly single story home and in the midst of all the buying/selling our beloved Milo pug passed suddenly on Labor Day. Now our Princess Marie pug is home alone in a new house and we watch her on the camera go from the dog bed to the window looking for her peeps.  Cue Queen ‘Find me somebody to love’. We are trying to find a pug to rescue but they are far and few between (good for the pugs). The similarity is watching her be so sad and alone the 3 days a week that I work. It is gut wrenching sometimes but what are you gonna do; we have to work to pay the vet bills! Haha. Here’s hoping Henry gets back in the swing of things and here’s hoping PM finds a cuddle buddy.

Poor little guy….even when I go to work on Monday after only being home for 2 days, my little bugger pug Butch pouts something fierce, and he isn’t blind nor has he gone thru the tough times that Henry has….Henry YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!  YOU ARE SO STRONG!!!

It’s always hard to get back in the old routine. Glad Henry was able to work through his anxiety. He’s a tough little cookie, but I know it must have hurt to see him barking at the couch. That would have been hard to take.

Henry, I am so proud of you working through your “abandonment” during the day.  #HenryStrong is not just a mere hashtag.  It is the wonderful pug you are.

I can relate…both my husband and I were home during the holidays so when it came time to go back to work the puggies weren’t too happy. And my husband travels for work every week so it’s not like he is home after work…he is GONE Monday thru Friday. I think the first week back is the worst and then they seem to adjust…and I’m sure Henry will adjust if he hasn’t already!I love the way he is laying right in the doorway…guess he figures there’s not way he’ll miss someone walking in the room that way;)
