Caution: Thinking May Cause Drowsiness

Benjamin, Luna and Henry

Yesterday, I began teaching the boys a new command and continued working with Luna on the down command. It is true that Luna has still not mastered the command, but she is getting so much better. She is quite a slow learner, but that is OK because I have time. Plus, I love seeing how proud of herself she gets when she knows exactly what to do.

For the boys, I thought I would teach them to stand. It's not really a show stopper, but I thought it might come in handy. Like when I am brushing Henry and he suddenly falls over and rolls on his back. If I could tell him to stand, I might actually be able to brush his whole body and not just his belly.

Regardless of whether or not I am teaching the pugs a new command, I love how a little bit of training or even just a refresher of the commands they already know tires the pugs out. Concentrating on a task sometimes tires them out as much as a trip to the dog park.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend. Don't think too hard!

Question.  How do you teach 1 pug a command with 2 other pugs looking hungry?  Do you seperate them and do 1 on 1 training?  We have 4 and have found this to be difficult. Even if we seperate 1 from the group, the others look in and whimper most of the time.  It can be distracting for the 1 who you are trying to train.

Great job gang!  I’m sure you got some rewards for all your hard work…nap time sounds good to me too as my brain has had a tough week as well!

Happy weekend to all…Lots of love and pug hugs from Heather, Baxter, and Cole

Lindsay -

For commands they already know, we work as a group, alternating turns.  I tell Benny to sit and then he gets a treat, Henry to sit and then he gets a treat & then Luna to sit and then she gets a treat and then we start back at Benny.

For new commands, I work with them separately.  The others whined at first, so I took whoever I was working with out of the view of the others.  They don’t whine and bark as much now because they know they will eventually get their turn.  They didn’t like it at first but they got used to it.

Once I finish working with each one individually, I give them a few commands as a group so they all get their last treat at the same time.

Training is most definitely one of the hardest things about having multiple pugs.  The only way I have had success is to work with them one on one.

Don’t think twice about it loves.  If I think too hard I get tired too.

Luna, it’s ok if you are a slow learner baby.  I bet once you get it, it really sticks with you.

Henry, you must associate those brush bristlels with a rub down, and all you want is a nice tummy rub.

Happy weekend all.

The gang really looks ready for a nice nap! Is there room for one more? I need a nap, too.Beauty loves her treat (we use milk bones marrow bones) and would turn herself inside out if asked just to get one(of course I would never ask her to that!)the look of anticipation she gets when holding a command is priceless.Have a great week-end all!pug-hugs from the COlorado 3

I’m not so sure they haven’t overdosed on some grass….the outdoor kind.  They look like I feel when I have to get out of bed in the morning!

Have a great weekend, everyone.  I checked sweet Sol’s memorial fund this a.m. - $1,745.  What a tribute to that amazing little lady.

Pug Hug everyone,

When our daughter gives Mr. Skittles a treat, she does the High five, then the low down, followed by give me a paw… after all this she gives him a treat!  I wonder if he thinks… Mom, do not let her give me a treat, I have to work really hard for it, you give me the treat, just cause I am cute…
Already Friday!!  Have a great weekend everyone!

What good puggies they are to work so hard to learn new commands!  And now you’ve motivated me to work with Bennie, too.  He never learned to lie down for me (he didn’t want to!) and I let it go.  But I think we’re going to try again : )

Very cute picture of the puggers!  They all look pretty comfy.  I think they have their own secret blog where they talk about the commands they teach us!  I could just see it now…I’ve taught my human to rub my belly on command…I’ve taught my human to give me treats when I make sad eyes, etc! smile

Luna, girl, I just love that big black nose amidst that grey little smooshie face of yours:-)  It’s ok, my girl is a slow learner too, and thinks she is above “down”:-)
