Discerning

Sol

Whenever one of the pugs does something funny or noteworthy, I jot down a little blurb in my blog idea book. Later, when I'm looking for something to blog about, I have a whole book of ideas. I have notes in my book that I never got a chance to blog about before Sol passed. I thought I would share one of those stories today.

When it came to food, Solsey had a pretty strict set of rules that she followed. One of those rules was never, ever eat any fruit.

We quickly became aware of Sol's "Eat No Fruit" rule when she turned down tiny bits of bananas or apples on a regular basis. But we didn't realize how serious Sol's distaste for fruit was until she got picky about her Cheerios.

Each morning plays out about the same around here. We start the day with a bowl of Cheerios and a banana. However, we are a two Cheerio flavor household. One of us eats Apple Cinnamon Cheerios and the other Honey Nut Cheerios.

We offer the pugs a tiny bite of banana each morning and of course Sol always turned hers down. So, we started offering Sol a Cheerio instead. If it was an Apple Cinnamon Cheerio, Sol would turn that down as well. If it was a Honey Nut Cheerio, she would woof it down and ask for another.

Mix a handful of Apple Cinnamon Cheerios with a handful of Honey Nut Cheerios, put the mix in a bowl and give it to Sol and when she was done eating you would have a bowl full of Apple Cinnamon Cheerios left.

What a wonderful surprise to come on this morning and see beautiful Sol staring back at me.  What a smart cookie she was!  Love this story and absolutely love that she took her preferences very seriously!  Miss you so much sweet Sol…Thank you for this Corrine, it made my day.

Thanks for another wonderful story and picture about precious Sol! We all miss her.  Sol always reminded me so much of my late Ellie.  I always thought they could be long lost sisters, they were so alike.  After Ellie passed, it was so nice to read blogs about Sol because it would remind me of something Ellie did or of Ellie’s personality. smile  I’m sure they met up at the Rainbow bridge.  Sorry…got all mushy today:)

Oh how I miss Sol.  In the short time she was with you, she accomplished so much and brought so much love to everyone.
I tear up just looking at her and wish I could give her a big hug!
Can you imagine what it is going to be like when we all get together with our pugs at the rainbow bridge?

Corrine, thank you so much.  We all miss Sol so very much and it is nice to be able to see parts of her life with OBP again.

Sol knew what she liked and didn’t like, and nobody was going to divert her from that. You may be gone baby girl, but I don’t believe any one of us will ever forget your huge personality.

Love the OBP blog idea book.

To Abbey’s mother,
I am so sorry you are having problems with Abbey.  My Toby is my 5th pug and have 4 at the rainbow bridge. A couple of years ago, my Abbey was 14 and having problems. When i spoke to the vet, he said that i would know when it was time but not to be in a hurry. Later that week-end, my Abbey went to the rainbow bridge on her own. She knew I didn’t want to make the decision so she did it for me. Take your time. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

You know, every time I see a black pugger, including my Otis, I always think of Sol and her sunny disposition.  What a sweet angel she was.  We should all be so gifted with such a sunny outlook on life!

Corrine thank you so much I have tears rolling down my face it was so nice to see Sols face and a story about her I miss her so much I think Sol touched so many of us and taught us a lot to live life to the fullest and to take each day as it comes I think that is a great idea to keep a note book making notes about special times with the gang

Pug Momma I feel so bad for you I am saying prayers and thinking good thought for Abby and you I know it must be so hard to see your baby sick I am a firm believer they let us know when it is time We are all here for you there is one thing I have learned from this blog we are one big loving caring pug family

WOW!!Thank you for posting Sol again! Love that sweet face! Prayers still going up for Abbey.Know that our OBP family is here for you and Abbey! I am looking forward to the day when we can see all these precious fur babies that made life here so bearable! I once heard a pastor say there are no pets in heaven-I believe this person got it all wrong!!What would heaven be without pets? HELL!!Pug-hugs from the Colorado 5

sue s-I just had to comment on your post.  I have also heard that animals have no soul and therefore would not be in Heaven…I agree that’s wrong!  Anyone that loves a pet knows their soul runs deep and they belong in Heaven right beside us!  I firmly believe that and refuse to believe any other way!

I forgot to comment on Sol’s discerning taste.  She was such a character!  It just goes to show that as we get older, we develop a taste for the good stuff…Solsey knew what she liked and didn’t sway!  What a gal!!

I will not admit to how many times I’ve already come back to today’s post to see “our” Solsey!!!  wink

Pug Mama, I am still thinking of you and Abby and praying…and please don’t necessarily think the worst (so easier said than done, I know…I should take my own advice!)...but really, she could just be having an “off” time…it doesn’t necessarily mean the end.

Sol and my Senior Love have shown me that the older they get, the stronger they are…in spirit and determination!

Sue S - I won’t share what I think about that “pastor” that said there are no pets in heaven…but I do believe you are right that he got it all wrong!

OK, off my soapbox now…LOL…sorry I’m feeling extra passionate today…Spicy Solsey has me fired up!  grin

Karen B - No soul?!?!?!?!?!  AH, that just kills my heart.  Anyone that thinks that has to be missing a brain.  My boys have more soul than any person I have ever known!  (More intelligence than most too…LOL)

I meant to comment on the Sol “Sunshine” Memorial fund.  I was so happy to see Sol, I forgot all about it.  $2,020 is not a bad amount. I will have to make another donation to honor this baby girl. I think about her everyday when I see her on my computer screen.

Coming upon that picture of Solsey was breathtaking and that story so wonderful to read about.  What a “giggle”.  I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.  Thank you for sharing it with all of us who miss Sol so much.  I can only imagine how you feel Corrine, rather bittersweet with your memories.

Oh, how we miss you sweet Sol and are thankful for knowing your sweet spirit.

Sol, beautiful girl, I miss you so much, and I have been thinking about you every day as I watch my Abby with her struggles.  You are sorely missed, and it was very touching to see this story about you today.  I have also kept a journal of sorts related to all of my Abby’s antics, and adventures.  It is comforting to know they will still be there, when Abby gets to the rainbow bridge.

I had 2 very long talks with the vet today, we were speculating at lots of reasons as to why Abby is not bouncing back too much this time.  It seems that more things were seen on her chest/neck xray than they originally told me, that she might have pneumonia and that the doxycycline is not the right med to be on for that.  And, also that although her heart looks the right size, there is a vessel or something near it or her lungs that doesn’t look right at all, she was thinking possibly pulmonary hypertension or something.

I finally said, we’ll just come in tomorrow for an appointment, to see the vet that will be there tomorrow.  All of the speculating over the phone was not doing me any good at all.  We will be seeing the vet that just took over the clinic, who has a lot of background working at the animal emergency clinic here, and with critical care at the vet school, so it sounds like Abby will be in good hands.  Please say your prayers:-)

Pug Mama,

You and Abbey will be in my thoughts and prayers today. Please keep us updated as to how you make out with the vet!

Pug Mama, again I say have faith.  Abby sounds like her quality is good, she just needs to get through whatever is ailing her.  Prayers and hugs.

All of us will be waiting to hear from you again.

Karen B

pug mama, remember we’re all there in spirit with you!  Hope your visit with the vet goes well and eases your mind and Abby’s discomfort.  Of course, prayers are in your corner.

Huckle

07/30/2010

Pug mama - I can see a lot of promise in the information the vet’s office was giving you once Abby gets on the right track.  I can visualize your questions being answered in a positive way once you get together with the vet today.  Please keep us informed, we are truly anxious as well.  If you are like me, it is harder to not know and try to deal with a horrendous problem rather than to know and try to deal with it…if that makes any sense.  I know what I mean but I am probably not explaining it very well.  Maybe you can get the jist of it however.  We are all so concerned for you and for Abby.  Use the strength of that commonality to help you at this time.

Pug Hugs,
Huckle & the Swamp Pugs
