Goodbye Baby Benny

Benjamin

I am very sad to say that Benjamin passed away yesterday morning. Wednesday night he had another one of his breathing/coughing/panting episodes. This one began shortly after dinner. We gave him one of the special shots we have on hand for emergencies like this, but it did not work like it did last time. The first time we gave him the shot, it took 9 minutes before he was calm and resting easy. Last night, it took 43 minutes for us to start to see any relief and the relief was only mild and not long lasting. As the night progressed it became more and more clear that this was going to be a long lasting episode. We did our best to keep Benjamin as comfortable as possible throughout the night and took him to the vet first thing in the morning.

While we knew Benjamin's trachea issues and other maladies were progressing, we were not expecting to get to this point so quickly. And although we anticipated summer being a struggle, we still thought we had a few more months at least.

Amidst the whirlwind of emotions and throughout conversations since Wednesday night, one prevailing theme has risen above all others and this is how happy and positive Benjamin was in life. He assumed the best in everyone and everything. He touched everyone he met and made them feel loved and left them with a smile.

In the spirit of Benjamin, I want to take this time of enormous sadness and remember all the joy that Benjamin brought to our lives. If you have a moment, reflect upon a favorite story or Benny-ism and post it in the comments for us all to share. I can't think of any better way to celebrate the pumpkin bread loving, pillow king that was the luxuriously wrinkly and most handsome pug we called Baby Benny.

On a side note, I expect we will take a hiatus from posting next week to take some time to process everything. We will return soon.

I’ve read the blog off and on for a few years, but I’ve never posted before. I just wanted you to know that Benny (and the other pugs) have brought me happiness and joy. I’m sure there a lot of other people who have had the same experience. I am sorry for your loss, but I hope you can take comfort in knowing that Benjamin has made people’s lives better thanks to your sharing.

Thinking of you all and our Benjamin. Imaging him playing at the bridge with Sol, Riley, Baxter, and all our other babies.

I’m so sorry for you and your family. Baby Benny was everyone’s baby, along with Henry and Luna. Every Pug should have the wonderful home you give to your Pugs. We all love our Pugs and animals in general. You have blessed thousands of people with your heartwarming stories. Please know we all appreciate it very much.

Oh Grammy, that breaks my heart that Henry is sad and quiet. He misses his buddy and is grieving like everyone else. I’m hoping you all can still feel our love and support. God Bless.

I wish I could stay away from this blog, but I can’t.
I am sick to my stomach every time I go to it or even think about Benny and how great he was with his perpetual smile.  Just can’t hardly stand it.

Corrine——I hope it is a comfort to you and your family to know how much we all miss

Even though I never met Benny I knew he was awesome.  I’m a pug momma in Toronto who happened on your blog and loved the updates from your pug-centric household.  From his puffy management skills, superior bed selection abilities as well as his ability to stare down food and will it into his mouth he was a pug personified.  Letting go is so hard but this quote from Winnie the Pooh eases my heart a little at difficult times, I hope it does the same for you.
“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.”  Your little boy spread joy to people near and far - what a great life..

I keep coming back to read all the heartfelt and loving comments.  They’re helpful to me, as well.

Janet, in spite of my love of children’s lit AND quotes, I’ve never seen that one from Winnie the Pooh.  I love it.  Thank you for telling us about it ♥

Janet, thanks for sharing that.  I also had not heard that, and it does indeed ease the pain some.  At least it does for me and I hope for others, too.

Dear Corrine, Glynne, Grammy, Henry, Luna, Cupid:

Friday afternoon, one week since you posted about sweet Baby Benny.  I hope, that somehow, you are beginning to mend even a little bit.  You know you have been in our hearts all week.  Please wrap herself in hugs because I know we all want to give each of you hugs.

OBP,  we are so sorry for your loss.  As our Maddie grew we read with joy about your babies.  We feel like they were our babies. You have so many people sharing love, it is amazing how these little pug people can bring
us all together.

We hug you all,  love to Baby Benny.

I hadn’t visited your blog in a couple of years and just today decided to pay your site a visit.  How sad I was to read about your loss of Benjamin.  Please accept my deepest condolences.  Benny brought so much happiness to people he never even met - what a wonderful gift you and he gave us!  I hope that will comfort you in the coming days.

Janet, what you said was perfect. Your entire post. And the Winnie the Pooh quote was perfect.

Sending love and hugs to all of you Corrine.

Oh Benny…. I haven’t been online in a while and I never expected to hear such sad news.  I’m so sorry for your loss.  I’m heartbroken for you, Henry and Luna. I loved reading about Benny’s antics.  He was a wonderful little guy and a beautiful soul and I will miss him very much.
I’d like to think he’s in heaven playing with Sol and my own little pug Mason.

I haven’t been on your site for a while and just got on today and saw that Baby Benny passed.  I am so very sorry to hear this and I hope you are all doing as best as can be expected.  It is never easy when we lose them.  He sounded like a wonderful Pug and had a great life with you.  He’ll always be in your heart.  Take care.

Do you mind if I quote a few of your posts as long as I provide credit and sources back to your blog? My website is in the very same area of interest as yours and my users would genuinely benefit from a lot of the information you present here. Please let me know if this okay with you. Many thanks!
