Henry the Daredevil

Henry

Henry has always been an off roading kind of guy. He would be the one to lead the pack off the beaten path. And sometimes he would simply fly solo and leave Benny and Luna behind. This worried Benjamin terribly. He would stand at the edge of the trail, see his brother bounce off into the wilderness and panic from the assumption that he was gone for good. When Henry would bounce back to Baby Benny and Ben would meet him with a loving nudge and a bonus face bite so as if to say, "Stop that stuff! It scares me when I think you are never coming back!

While Henry's risk taking days are mostly behind him, he still likes to live on the edge sometimes. And you can see in the photos, we mean that literally. In a recent post thundershower walk, we took Henry to a spot near the Halifax River and he promptly went right the edge. He gets so stubborn about where he wants to be that he just pulls and pulls on the leash, happily taking the mile after the inch you just gave him. Without his vision, however, I doubt he really realizes just how much danger he can put himself in.

Henry

In any case, while Henry still can make our hearts jump, it is nice to know that he still has his love for exploring. We would prefer if he could explore a little less close to the spot of sharp drop offs! #CrazyPug #HenryTheStuntman

that would make me very nervous but its good to know Henry has a wild side quick question Corrine why does Henry have the shaved square spot on his right side

Hi Sue-  Henry has 2 shaved patches right now.  The one you see in the photo and half of his tummy area is shaved, too.  This is from his now routine sonograms that he receives every 6-8 weeks or so.  The square patch is where his remaining kidney is and they scan it to be sure there are no tumors.  They sonogram his belly area to check on his IBD issues. So that is why his stomach is half furless.  I was surprised to realize that his kidney was that high up his body.  I guess I thought it would be closer to his hind legs and more towards his belly.  Last scans were all good.  smile

Henry you certainly know how to keep your peeps on their toes; however, I am glad to see you still have your moments of an adventurous spirit. Looking at this picture it is hard to believe you cannot see, as you seem to be observing your surroundings.

I acknowledge that Henry has a wild side and wants to “walk on the edge.” I also notice that leash is straight as an arrow, PULLED TIGHT. Wild does not equal less safety. Good job, humans!

Yes, Sue VDB, we get that a lot…that it is hard to believe that he cannot see.  I think the thing is that wherever his nose goes, his eyes follow by default.  And his nose leads his life now.  When we say blind, we also do not mean total darkness, per se.  If you close your your eyes that is what he can see, though.  With your eyes closed you can tell if it sunny or dark.  If its dim and there were bright lights coming from somewhere you could “see” them, too. So, blind is somewhat relative.  He can perceive lights and shadows.  He gets along so much better than when he first lost his vision that it is indeed sometimes hard to believe that he can no longer see.  Time has certainly been his friend in the learning to navigate department.  smile

That just tells me that Henry is still young at heart and acts accordingly! Go Henry:)

It’s nice to see Henry hasn’t lost any zest for living-even if it is on the edge. Good to hear his ultrasounds are GOOD! #MayyoustayforeveryoungHenry. Pug hugs from pastor sue & the Colorado 2

I’m glad Henry’s peeps find places for him to be bold and let his explorations continue!  And I’ll bet all along there is just a wonderful smell-fest for Henry!
