The Moon Failed Us

The night of 9/27 was to be a blood moon and a lunar eclipse. The next one not until 2033. Our weather was terrible. We saw beautiful Luna rise and got to observe her for a few precious minutes but after that everything went south. The clouds thickened and then at prime time we actually had a massive rain shower. So, it was all for nothing. Please feel free to share your observations if you were lucky enough to catch the spectacular event.

The photo shown is of Henry a few days before the moon got it's biggest. It was a still an overcast and windy night but Henry was happy to be out and about.

Yea, it was a “rainy night in Georgia” too. We didn’t have any hope of being able to see the blood moon, it had been cloudy and rainy for days before and stayed that way for days after. Lucy was more upset about the rain than the rest of us-we’re such cruel, awful parents that we make her potty in the rain. She did manage to exact a large measure of revenge by sneaking a pee in the laundry room-on the FLOOR VENT!I keep spraying cleaner down the vent but it still stinks every time the HVAC comes on. Sheesh!

Was not nice weather here either…then this weekend we had the hurricane!!! Mother nature is not being very nice!

I’m sorry the peeps who should have had the best view got bummed out. 
I watched it beginning at its brightest while I was driving to pick up my “daughter” from work through most of its progression.  When I got home I was only able to observe it through my trees.  I thought too late to drive to the local walking park because it, was of course, full.

What I was able to see was beautiful, and I told Luna she was very much loved and missed.

We are glad someone at least got to see her.  Even if you did not get see the whole progression.  We are glad she could share her glow with someone who cares.  smile

We were avidly waiting for Luna’s show, and that evening went to a nearby park for our viewing.  The afternoon had been cloudless, and I was anticipating a beautiful evening.  We were watching the moon and it was beautiful, but then clouds moved in.  We left for a short while, but kept an eye on things.  So after about 20 minutes, when we noticed that the clouds had cleared, we went back to the park. 

Even with just the naked eye, it was very easy to watch the shadow slowly move across Luna.  It was beautiful!  When Luna was completely in the Earth’s shadow, she was still easily visible, just not illuminated!  I didn’t think the color was what I had expected, certainly not “blood red”.  I thought it was more of a gentle rust color. 

I did feel lucky to get to see Luna, and I wish so much that she had been visible for her peeps, too.  ♥

It was a beautiful moon in our little neck of the woods. Really something to see just standing on the east side of our front porch. Sometimes living in the country is great.
