Benjamin, Henry, Luna and Tebow

The pugs are usually pretty tired on Mondays, but today they are exhausted. They had the honor of entertaining Tebow, the four month old puppy, this weekend.

They played with him, shared their toys and bones and took him to their favorite park. Tebow loved going to the park and really enjoyed picking out toys and bones from the toy bin. He liked playing with the pugs too, but he thought they slept an awful lot.

I am quite proud of how well Benjamin, Henry & Luna did with Tebow this weekend. They were very patient with him and his boundless energy.

It has been fun having a bouncing puppy in the house again.

Tebow is adorable and it sounds like Ben, Henry, and Luna were perfect hosts and hostess…

I want to thank you all for your prayers and thoughts…Baxter is responding fabulously to treatment, thank God.  The docs were incredibly impressed with his quick turnaround which is a great sign for his prognosis!!!  Praise God!  I just keep praying that his recovery continues to be as stellar as its been and that he’s 100% again!  He goes for a re-check in two weeks.  Thanks again…Your care and concern mean the world.

Sue, how did Baxter the Boxer make out??  He’s been in our prayers.

Benjamin, Henry and Luna are the best little pugs.  While they had fun, I bet they are glad to be able to snore the day away today.

Heather, good news about Baxter,  I know you are relieved.  Keep getting better Baxter.

Sue, please keep us updated on your Baxter.

Huckle, how is Cooper doing?

Tebow’s little face is melting my heart! I am so glad he had fun with the gang this weekend!! I think some extra naps will be scheduled for the puglets over the next couple of days:)

...a bouncing puppy, eh?....but, like grandchildren, you get to send him home (when you are exhausted).  I bet that was fun, though, and I’m glad to hear that your crew was so kind as to share their special things with him!

Heather…..your positive attitude with Baxter will help not only you but him.  I am a firm believer in such things.  Prayers to you.

Sue VDB - except for throwing up every couple of days, Cooper seems much better.  His lymph nodes have drastically reduced in size and though I realize this may only be temporary, we are much encouraged.  I take him on small walks and he seems to do okay with that and not get too tired.  Thanks for the interest all of you.

Miss Luna seems to have found a sweetheart.  What a funny picture, at first I thought all those pillows were Pugs as well!

It sounds like the pugs triple-teamed Tebow, which is why they’re all so tired.  They might try going man-on-man, which would give two pugs a rest opportunity.  But they were very good hosts and hostess!

Tebow’s looking so inquisitively at the clicky thing.  As cute as he is, I’m sure over time he’ll become very used to it!

it sounds like Henry Luna and Benny had a tiring but fun weekend with there house guest and very sweet of them to share there toys and bone they look all tuckered out except tebow he looks like he is ready for another round of play Heather I am so happy for you about Baxter responding well I still will keep him in my prayers and Huckle glad to hear the lymph nodes are shrinking cooper is also in my prayers and positive thoughts Heather Baxter did fine through the surgery now it is just waiting to hear from the vet they had to send it out to a lab to be tested

Huckle, so glad to hear about Cooper, he’s been in our prayers as well.  I bet he’s enjoying his walks immensley…Thank you for your kind words about Baxter.  There is lots of ‘celebration’ each day for his recovery and he gets quite excited when Momma starts going bonkers with cheers and praise of his fortitude!

Speaking of which, I must sing the praises of the pill pockets.  Baxter is NOT a pill taker…He is the smart boy that will detect any type of med in any type of concealing food vehicle at all times (unlike Riley, and seemingly Cole, who gobble(d) without a second thought)...momma has to get very crafty at the administration of all pills.

However, I decided to give those pill pockets a go…I know some of you had success with them too.  Well, voila!  He gobbles it down…at one point, I thought he was on to me, but I just shoved a “plain” one in front of him to get the thought that there may be something awry out of his fury lil’ head!  grin  It worked…so far, so good.

Glad to hear all the good news about our furry friends!  I am continually amazed at the resilience of our canine pals.

Tebow, looks like you’ve taken your place right in line with the pugs!  Go easy on them, though!  They’re not as young and spry as yoe are!

Heather, I have heard of a few dogs who refuse pill pockets, but I have fantastic success with them. They really are a saver since I have my Chinese Crested Missy on Phenobarbital twice a day and Romeo just finished antibiotics for his dental work…poor baby lost 3 more teeth.

Love and prayers to all who need extra help.

Tebow, you are too cute!!!  Be kind to your elders, though, k?

Abby takes a daily med, and the pill pockets are a Godsend for her.  She never questions what is inside, luckily her pill is small, so she just thinks it is more treats.  Some say they are too expensive, but honestly, trying to hold her down and force something (a pill) on her is too stressful, and too much stress sends her into a breathing attack, which just creates huge vet bills.  So, a little $7.99 pack of pillpockets from Petsmart is nothing.  I buy the larger size pack of 30, and they easily break in half to a more pug size, so that pack of 30 will last more than a month.

Huckle, are you talking about the capsule size pill pockets?  I agree with you about worth the cost.

Heather

04/26/2010

I got the pill size and one of the meds fits fine as it is small, but the other pill barely squeaks by when I pinch it shut so I bet Pug Mama is talking about the capsule size.  After thousands and thousands of dollars, what’s $8!  Bring on the Pill Pockets!  (They sure are stinky though!  Mandatory hand wash or momma gags all day!).

Heather - I am so glad to hear the Baxter is responding well to the meds and is feeling better.

Giving Pills - It was nearly impossible to give a pill to Solsey. We tried peanut butter, pill pockets and everything else you could think of but she just refused to eat it if she suspected a pill was in there.

The only thing she couldn’t resist was lunch meat.  We used to get the Budig lunch meat for about $0.50 a pack.  We would use a whole piece of lunch meat and wrap up the pill inside real tight and make a reasonably sized bite out of it.  Luckily for us, Sol didn’t chew it so she swallowed the pill with ease.  If it is too big of a bite you could probably use half a piece of lunch meat.  Sol liked variety so we always got different flavors, Beef, Chicken, Turkey & Ham.

My trick for pills is stick cheese.  I just stick the pill in the piece of cheese and C.J. and Toeby are none the wiser!  I do it every month with their Interceptor, which is supposed to be tasty on it’s own!  Not for my guys…They gotta have the cheese!

Heather, yup, I meant the capsule size ones.  (doh!)  Just the other day, with Abby, I added up the amount of the last 18 months of vet bills, emergency clinic, eye specialist, etc, etc, and she is just over $3700.00.
