Walking To Grammy’s

A couple weeks ago, I posted a short video to show how well Henry does walking home from Grammy's on his own. It was just a snippet from the mailbox going towards home. Well, Henry can get a wild a hair and likes to follow his own agenda. (Luna was classic for this trait. She only wanted to follow her agenda and not deviate from it.) Well, Henry, too, very much likes to do what Henry likes to do. And walking to Grammy's is one of those things. There will be times when we are getting ready to take a car ride or just going to walk the neighborhood (well, that is what we THINK we are about to do) but Henry just knows that it is time to go visit Grammy. So, up the street he will trot. In the 2ish minute video, you will see Henry, in full stride, on his way to see his Grammy! While not able to see, he still knows where his Grammy lives! At the end, he is put off that she did not have the garage door opened for him and then works to navigate to go to the front door. I stopped recording when he discovered that the garage door was down. But it is plain to see that he knew where he was going and he knew when he got there. While there was a pause or two for him to reconsider his whereabouts, once he checked out his surroundings, he easily got back on track.

We recently shared that Henry is named after Grammy's side of the family. Well, another little tidbit about the "Henry" family....they have a special walk that only Henrys do. It is most notable when they walk away from a situation while possessing a stubborn attitude and Henry has mastered this walk. He owns it like he is a true Henry. The video shows the Henry walk. Do you think there was a chance in hell that I would have been able to redirect Henry to anywhere but Grammy's house at that moment? No way. He is Henry family-style stubborn. The Henrys like to label it as being strong in their convictions (as opposed to stubborn). No matter what you call it, Henry has it. Henry is a true Henry and nothing can stop him from seeing his Grammy!

I feel so SAD when he gets to the door that isn’t opened for him! All that huffing and puffing and wow, does he know where Grammy lives or what??!! Grammy must be smiling from ear to ear to know Henry wants to see her!

Elizabeth-
Usually I call ahead and let Grammy know to put the door up but I couldn’t call and take the video at the same time.  smile
It was down in the name of capturing the moment.
But sometimes Henry still hustles down there and Grammy is not home.  THAT is SAD!  The garage door is down, so he goes to the front door, ring the bell, wait, no answer.  He just stands there patiently.  When this happens, I usually have to pick him up and get him settled and redirected somewhere else.  But the garage door is usually open for him.  He will navigate between the car and the side of the garage, through the door, through her laundry room then into the kitchen.  He still struggles with the door from the laundry room to the rest of the house but for the most part he is pretty good.

You are definitely a Henry on a mission.  This melts my heart.

He may have been disturbed the garage door was not open, but he is “strong” in his determination and knows the front door will surely get him to see Grammy.

Henry I love you.

Oh I dearly love this video!  I can only imagine how much Grammy must love it too!

Watching Henry navigate to Grammy’s is most impressive to me.  He certainly does have the demeanor of a proud, independent pug who is very pleased with himself!  As he should be!!  I think Henry’s Henry genes stand him in good stead!

GO Henry!!

Love this video, Henry has a cute, determined shuffle when he walks.
(It has been a while since I have walked behind a Pug. Love that tightly curled tail.)

WOW-how does he do that…it can’t really be sound that directs him to Grammy’s house…maybe it’s smells or maybe he can just feel the love:)

Henry is certainly “a pug on a mission”. Such determination not to be stopped by lack of sight is inspiring-what ever life hands you-deteremine on! Pug hugs from pastor sue & the Colorado 2

Hi Grammy,

In Henry’s case GPS must mean Grammy Positioning System!

And now that we see where you live, it makes it easy for us to picture you in your Spidey costume rushing along that sidewalk to Henry when he needs you!

Henry certainly is on a mission.  It warms my heart to see him walk so strong!!!!

actually I MEANT to say I probably couldn’t walk the sidewalk to my house if I had my eyes closed…LOL of course I could do it otherwise….
but thanks ALL of you for loving Henry and giving me the kudos I don’t really deserve (but I’ll take ‘em anyway)

Had to watch this video again today (Thursday).  Henry walks a much straighter line than I ever could; I’d be all over the place, including the grass, and perhaps even the street.  I notice more today when he approaches Grammy’s driveway, he hesitates slightly until he finds it, then its off to the races.
