Hi Corrine, thanks for that - went onto the blog and apologise for growling, but I will add it wasn’t a very ferocious growl - more like a ‘belly rumble’

Hi Abby,
This picture kind gives you that “vampire” look - pugs make the cutest and funniest faces!  You’re such a lucky girl to live with other puggies!  You must be very spoiled, and rightly so!  xxxooo to you sweetie!

Abby, hi darling.  I only have one pug, and while I’m crazy about my other two dogs, I wish I had at least one other pug. Pugs rule.

Sue VDB,
I have three pugs.  It’s really interesting to see them interact with each other.  I got my second pug when I mistakenly thought my first pug was lonely and sad.  It turned out my first pug needed thyroid pills to pep him up - but they get along great and I’m glad I got the two.  Then my third pug came along when I rescued him.  Unfortunately about a year later he went blind from SARDS - no treatment for that - and now I tease him because he seems “Lost In Space”.  But I dearly love my three puggies - Kingsley, Paisley and Grizwald.  I am crazy for them!

Kat, what is SARDS?  Is there a preventive for it?

I thought at first that Abby had a sombrero on her head.  She looks as if she’s talking.  What a sweetheart.  Isn’t it fun to have a featured Pug pic.

Karen - I typed up a more detailed answer about SARDS but it didn’t post for some reason - maybe too long.  It’s Sudden Acute Retinal Degeneration Syndrome.  The animal eye doctor said there’s no way to stop it, - most breeders will breed this out of their lines.  Grizwald is a happy little pug and does well getting around - dogs have better spatial memory than people do!  He’s got a big fenced yard and he’s safe and very pampered.  He’s a sweetheart.

Huckle CKC is canadian I am not for sure but some breeders register the litters through this when AKC won’t register them Iam pretty sure you can look it up on the internet about Cooper having lose stools when Baxter my white boxer was a puppy he had lose stools I had to try different dog food to find which one agreed with him

Huckle I just looked up on the computer CKC kennel club it has two different ones one is continental and the other is canadian if you google it you can find out more about it

Hi Sweet Abby,
You are so ceut in this lovely photo.  I love the look of the big Sombrero on you:  I thought the same thing!  I love to see the other little guy hiding under Mom’s chair.  You guys are the cutest.  I know your Mom loves you very much.  Good luck, little Grizwald, and I know you can make it around just fine.  You can hear really well,  and smell anything miles away and if you are fenced in, ALL IS GOOD in Grizwald land.  Pugs are happy when ALL IS GOOD,  and everything is as it should be.  Dogs just seem to accept what happens to them gracefully, as they do not have that knowledge and fear that we humans do.  However, sometimes, I wonder?  Puggy’s are little miracles!  I love all my Pug books.
All the best to you, Griz, and Abby, I know you will be very kind and loving to your brother.

Oops, Abby, I left out Sweet little Paisley.  I know you three have tons of fun together.  Elizabeth~

Oh, BTW, what does everyone thing the average weight of our normal little Pugs is.  I need to get Cooper weighed, but I think I am keeping him a bit on the small size.  He would be as big as a horse if I gave him all the food items that he wants.  He is little Mr. Piggy Pug.  I guess, from what I have read, they all love to eat.  Food is their top A#1 PRIORITY!  At least that is the way Cooper is.  He teased this evening for an ear of corn when my husband and I were having dinner.  I was afraid he would eat the cob which I would not want.
He weighed 20# for a long time, but I know he is probably around 25.
I just got him a new Puppia in Size Large.  I love those things.  There is something to grab when he tries to run out my front door.

Thanks guys,  Elizabeth

Also what is everyone’s favorite food for Pugs?

Sue VDB

08/20/2010

Elizabeth, standards say between 15 and 18 lbs.  When I first got Romeo he was 18 lbs. and looked skinny.  He was up to 25 lbs., but I back and he weighs 23 lbs.  I see more and more bigger pugs and they do not look fat. You vet, however, is the best source to see if Cooper is a good weight.

Dont’ give Cooper any corn on the cob.  The cob can choke him and if he manages to swallow it can really mess him up internally.

I feed my fur babies Wellness.  It is a good source of essential vitamins and minerals for dogs.  It has no artificial anything, and definitely has no corn, which is nothing but a filler and not nutritious for dogs. To see all the benefits, go to wellnesspetfood.com.  They also have a food called CORE that has no grain in it.

Abby is about 21#s, Gracie is around 19, and Georgie is 24# (according to my scale.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he even weighed more.  I’m having his thyroid checked next week - he is just way too heavy, somewhat lethargic, and seems to have trouble getting up.  I’m hoping for thyroid because the vet’s original thought was that he might have neurological problems or PDE.

We feed raw medallions of chicken or beef and Blue Buffalo Wilderness (about $50 for 24# but may have to change that as Cooper eats like a growing puppy) dry (nothing but pure, honest kibble, no fillers).  I change it up with ground lamb ($5/# - so not often) or ground turkey.

Gracie and Cooper have become sparring buddies and are having a great time as I sit here.

sue - thanks, I’ll check it out on the web.

sue s - did you ever say what you did with Beauty’s pups?  (If so, I missed it) What a temptation to keep them all, eh?

Grannygoogs - now I have to ask yo what your +2 is?

OH Abby..are you playing hide & seek? Love your beautiful. happy smile!

Weight is a problem for our pug babies. My GiGi had to lose weight when she came. Now she has so many rolls of empty skin she looks like she needs to have some taken off. I have gone on line to the dog food books and ordered one for cooking the dog food. She seems to hate most dog food and scares me because I am afried after a two year diet we may have gone too far.

Wow!So much great information! Thank you all for sharing! I got to admit-having Proto & Solsie is great! They play together, tear up the house together, and sleep snuggled together. Beauty is having some adjustment to her new surroundings but seems to be more comfortable each day! Auntie Daisey is a good auntie to the little ones-Daisey is a real sweetheart and gentle soul! All see the vet for check-ups this week.Pug hugs from the Colorado 5

Hi Huckle - just added the +2 for fun as I have mentioned them before on OBP, both rescued gals - Oprah is a cross Labrador/Jack Russell and Grace-Jones is a cross Standard Poodle and ????.
They are the ‘outside’ dogs - and have their own couch and blankets on the covered verandah and Heaven help them if they dare to come inside as our youngest and cheekiest pug - Miz Ziller chases them out, it’s so funny to watch, these two dogs literally ‘running for their lives’ as pint sized Miz Ziller snaps and barks at them.
Can anyone imagine a life without our Pugs and other children??

Food is available 24/7 in the form of ‘dry rats’ Top Brand available. They all have ‘supper at night which is ‘pug prawns and gravy’
Pug Food Traits:
1] When we go out of an evening or weekend, we always fill bowls with food. No matter what time we get back, none of them have touched it, almost seems as if they are waiting for us to come home
2] 3 of the pugs grab a mouthful from their bowls and run through to the lounge and proceed to eat their food on their cushions in front of the fire or outside [basically wherever we are]  Suster, is terribly bullied by the terrible teenagers, as they neately hook a cube out with their front paws, but if she tries to steal from them, bob-oh-boy, then we hear the ‘pug growls’
3] Their bowls have to put in the exact same place every day, otherwise they don’t eat .
