Good News from the Eye Doc

Luna resting after her trip to the eye doctor

Yesterday, Luna and Benjamin went to the ophthalmologist to find out more information about their latest eye woes.  We usually don’t leave the office with good news, so yesterday we were very pleased with the prognosis.

Luna does not have an ulcer.  The special drop they put in her eye so that they could better see what was going on did not show an ulcer.  That is fantastic news.  Since it is not an ulcer the doctor deduces that she has some sort of irritation that is likely being caused by one of her meds.  Our task is to find out which one.  So, when we give her her drops we need to keep a close eye out and see if any of them make her very squinty.

Benjamin got the best news of all.  The doctor does not think that he has entropy.  She thinks that the current state of his eyelids is the way they have been his whole life.  And that his teary eyes is most likely caused by seasonal allergies.  I was very happy to hear this.  The doctor still did a battery of tests to get a baseline for Benjamin and he goes back in 8 weeks for a follow-up to make sure that his eyelashes are not curling in even more.  If he gets a good report then he is all set.

So it wasn’t all fantastic news, but it sure is the best eye news I have heard in a long time.

After we got home from the eye doctor and Benjamin & Henry greeted their long last brother, Henry, they both crashed on the couch.  They were exhausted from the long car ride and the exam.

Nice to meet you!

Benjamin meeting the doggie mannequin

A while back, I was playing around trying to get some pictures of the Boston Red Sox Collars (which were recently featured in the August issue of Dog Fancy) for the H. Doodle store using my new doggie mannequin.  Benny was quite intrigued by the mannequin and kept jumping in my shots.  Since he is used to having the camera always pointing his direction, I think he was just trying to figure out who the new model in town was.  You got him in the looks department, Benny, but when it comes to taking direction and sitting still, he is far superior.

Eye Yie Yie

Benjamin & Luna

Benjamin, Henry & Luna all made a trip to their veterinarians and eye doctors last week and we got a mixed report for all three.  Little Luna had an appointment with her eye doctor, which is about 90 miles from home.  While the drive is a pain, Luna doesn’t seem to mind it and she thinks she is a big girl because she gets to go somewhere where her brothers do not.  This was a routine visit for Luna at the eye doctor and we were hoping for good news.  If we got a good report on this trip we could drop back her visits to every 6 months instead of monthly.  Her eyes were looking good to us, but the ophthalmologist had different news for us.  It seems that she has detected what might be an ulcer on Luna’s eye.  At this stage it is hard to tell, so the Dr. put a special drop in Luna’s eye and we are brining her back in two weeks.  The special drop will allow the Dr.‘s to get a better look at what is going on in Luna’s eye and give us a better prognosis.  We are keeping our fingers crossed on this one and hoping for a good report.

The following day, Benjamin & Henry went to the regular vet for their annual checkup and to get their latest shots.  Henry got some mixed news, but I will discuss that later.  The real shock was Benny.  While the Dr. said that Benny is in tip top physical condition the Dr. was concerned with Benny’s eyes.  It seems Benny has the early signs of Entropion, which means that his bottom eyelid is rolling in and causing his eye lashes to irritate his eyes.  The good news is that this can be fixed, but the bad news is that it requires surgery and can often reoccur after it has been surgically corrected.  The veterinarian recommended that we take Benny in to see the ophthalmologist.  So, since we had already scheduled an appointment at the ophthalmologist for Luna we called back and got an appointment for Benny as well.  So much for Luna’s special time.  Her brother now gets to join her on the long car ride.  I will keep everyone updated and share the news as soon as we know something new.

Dog Tags

Benjamin's Red Dingo Dog Tag

A few months ago, we got each of the pugs new Red Dingo Dog ID Tags.  When I first saw the tags, I was immediately drawn to them because of their unique designs.  They were eye catching and it didn’t hurt that you could mix and match designs and colors to your heart’s content.  There are 8 different designs and each design is available in 9 different colors and each tag is available in 3 different sizes.  So we had plenty of tag choices.

Red Dingo Dog Tags

We tried to choose tags for each of the pugs that expressed their personality.  Benjamin’s tag is the first picture up top and we choose the Happy Dog design for him because he’s just a happy go lucky kind of guy.

Henry's Red Dingo Dog Tag

Henry’s tag is a bone because he loves to chew anything.  It doesn’t matter what type of bone it is, he just loves to get a new bone and find a nice quiet spot to chew and chew until he tires himself out.

Luna's Red Dingo Dog Tag

Luna’s tag is a flower because she is such a sweet little girl that is very outgoing.  Also, I think a flower was fitting for her because she is continuing to bloom and flourish in her new home.

I like the tags because they are stylishly functional.  It lets the pugs look good while still having all their necessary contact info on them at all times.

Good Morning

Luna & Benjamin in the new garden

The new garden we planted has been a hit with the pugs.  Luna just loves to lay in the garden in the morning before it gets too hot outside.  I would have thought that the rocks would make for an uncomfortable bed, but apparently Luna feels differently.  She chooses to lay in the rocks amongst the flowers each morning.

I’m glad the little girl likes the new garden, but best of all I’m glad the new garden has solved our pee-pee problem.

Chase Me

Bath time is always a fun time around here.  There is just something about a bath that makes Benjamin, Henry and Luna want to run around like crazy pugs.  But after their last bath, Henry really wasn’t in the mood to run around like a madman.  He was tired.  He had spent much of the day swimming so all he really wanted to do was relax.  Benny on the other hand hadn’t been swimming.  He had been napping so he was chock full of energy.  So Benny wanted to play and Henry was having none of it.  Benny broke out all of the moves to entice Henry, but the two have been around each other so long, that Henry had seen them all before and he wasn’t biting.  Poor Benny had to wait until Luna was finished getting her bath before he had someone to chase.

Boys will be boys

Henry

This weekend we planted a little garden in the backyard.  The garden looks very nice, but we had ulterior motives for planting it.  It seems that Benjamin & Henry have taken a real liking to lifting their leg and peeing on he screen of the screened-in pool area.  Which of course means that the pee comes through the screen and gets on the pool deck and the lanai.  We have fussed at them a million times for doing it, but they just look at us like, “Look, you trained me to go potty in the yard and technically I am in the yard so I don’t think I am doing anything wrong.”

So, we figured there was only one way to beat them at their own game.  Plant some of their favorite plants, so that they have something to water other than the screen.  Plus, the garden sorta acts like a barrier and keeps them away for the screen a bit.  I say a bit, because none of them are above tramping through the garden.  So far our plan is working and the boys’ attention has been diverted from the screen to the freshly planted plants.

The other thing you might noticed is that we have put down rocks rather than mulch.  If we had put down mulch, Benjamin & Henry would have thought they hit the lottery.  They love to chew on and eat mulch.  So if we had put down mulch we would have never been able to let them lounge in the yard again.

So, Little Luna had plenty of opportunities to remind us this weekend of what a good girl she is and just how mischievous her big bros can be.
