Benny is a chewer. In the evening there is nothing he likes to do more than to chew one of his peanut butter rawhide bones, while someone is holding it - of course. When he gets a new bone he almost becomes obsessed with it. He chews it until we go to bed at night and when he wakes up in the morning the first thing he does is go get his bone. Sometimes, he chews for so long that he falls asleep. I snapped a picture of him the other day after he chewed for so long that he needed to take a short nap.

The clamshell chair in the living room is one of Benjamin, Henry and Luna’s favorite sleeping spots in the house. It seems like there is always at least one pug in the chair at all times and most of the time, all three are piled up there. Benjamin and Henry have always been partial to that sleeping spot because they can catnap and still see out the front door. So they can bark at passersby from the lap of luxury.
While they all sit in that chair pretty regularly, I have had a hard time getting a picture of them. Every time, I go near them with the camera, Luna jumps from the chair and comes running up to the camera. I must have caught her while she was extra sleepy because she didn’t budge when I got out the camera this morning. The little one is so tuckered out that I even got a picture of her mid yawn. Although, she looks like she has had a little bit too much to drink. She’s a trip!

When the boys were just pups, we would give them cute little “pet” names. Of course, Benjamin became Baby Benny. He was called that a lot. He is still called that quite often. I will get into some of the other nicknames, but I must digress for a moment because it did cause some trouble when we were trying to teach them their names.
When we were in puppy class, the teacher told us to only use their actual names. For training purposes, they must be Benjamin & Henry. The idea was so that you could easily get their attention and they could have name recognition. To teach them their own name, we would say their name and when they made eye contact with us, they would receive a treat to reinforce that they recognized their name. Well, the teacher said that Benjamin probably wouldn’t be called “Baby Benny” for his whole life. Hmmm….he was a great dog trainer but little did he know that Baby Benny would never really “grow up.”
In any event, I would like to share with you some of the nicknames that we have for the pugs. For Benjamin, he is also Benjamino, Been Jammin’, Bean, Beanpole and Baby Bean. I’ve also come up with a little poem that I recite to Ben when he is looking particularly cute or if I see that he is about to cause trouble. It goes like this: Green Bean, Jelly Bean. Where’s my Baby Benny Bean? Benjamin knows that this is not his “proper name” but knows if he hears something about Baby Bean, it’s about him. He is a sweety.
Next up, I’ll share some of the nicknames we have for Henry, Luna and even Cupid the cat.

A while back, I wrote about how Benny started sleeping the cat’s favorite basket. To help accommodate both of them, I added a second basket to my desk so there would be one for each of them. That sounds like it would be an ideal solution, but each of them only likes the one basket. Now these baskets are practically identical, but they each prefer the older basket and neither one of them will have anything to do with the newer basket. So like any good siblings, Benjamin and Cupid the cat are forced to share the same basket.

The other day, when neither Benjamin nor the cat were around, Henry decided to test out the basket and see what all the fuss is about.

The adorable Shelby the pug and the lovely lady Pugsley have tagged us and asked us to list 5 strange things about Benjamin, Henry and Luna. Then we must tag 5 other pugs sites. So here we go.
Benjamin
- Benjamin takes his “puffy”, a furry little disc, to bed with him every night.
- Ben’s ears are always inside out.
- Ben sleeps in the cat’s box.
- Benjamin is terrified of sewers. We have to plan our walks so that we do not come too close to sewers and if he sees a sewer he gets real close the the ground and will scrape his nails trying to run away.
- Benjamin’s favorite treat is cat litter.
Henry
- Henry will not give you a kiss (lick you on the lips). He simply refuses.
- On walks Henry likes to walk as far as he can and then just lays down. He never wants to start heading back home, he always wants to go farther, but he never thinks the farther he walks now the farther he has to walk to get back home.
- You can not go to the bathroom without Henry coming with you. He thinks that is a perfect time for petting. And if you close the door without letting him in, he will have a tantrum.
- When we eat, Henry sits at our feet at the table, making a variety of different Star Wars noises. Its his way of begging.
- Henry cleans Benjamin and Luna’s ears all the time, but he despises having his own ears cleaned.
Luna
- Luna is narcoleptic. She will be running, full steam around the house one second and then the next she is sound asleep in some odd place.
- Luna sleeps like a bat. Flat on her back, going the opposite direction of everyone else in bed, with her ears sprawled out.
- Luna has started lifting her leg to pee, or I should say her whole back end. She has been hanging around her brothers too long. It is very amusing to watch.
- Luna’s tail never stops wagging.
- Luna rarely barks.
Here’s who we are tagging next:

Benny the food thief has struck again! This time at dinner instead of breakfast. Let me share with you what happened.
Last night for dinner we were having salmon on the grill. So I go through my normal routine of getting the grill setup, turned on and preheated. When I return to the grill with fish in hand, I discover that the propane tank has run out. This is a pain, but not a big deal as we have a spare. The pugs are in the house so I set the fish on the table in the screened-in lanai while I get the new propane tank. I return with the new tank and get everything hooked up. After the new tank is installed, I turn around only to find Benjamin standing on the table on the lanai eating the RAW fish! I immediately scream out “BENJAMIN!” He looks up, we lock eyes and he slinks off the table onto the chair. He knows better than to do that.
My next thought is, “How did he even get outside?” I thought he was in the house. Apparently, Benjamin had slipped outside unnoticed while we were going in and out to get the new propane tank. With everyone busy he thought he could grab some fish without anyone noticing him.
I had no idea, but I guess Benjamin likes sushi.

It is not uncommon to end up missing a sock in our house. If the dryer doesn’t eat your sock, Henry surely will. Henry will snag your sock and run around the house with it every chance he gets.

It is a good thing that socks come in pairs because as soon as Henry finds a sock for himself, Benjamin always wants one as well.
