Did someone say bacon?

Benjamin and his quest for bacon

Benjamin hates salads, but he loves bacon.  Bacon is definitely not a part of his diet, so I am not sure how he knows he loves it so much, but when it comes to food he just has a nose for those things.  Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried and how long he stared at it, Benny was not able to will the bacon to him using his patented food pout.

Puppy Pictures

We were looking through the photo albums this weekend and we came across some adorable pics of the boys when they were puppies.  Here are some of my favorites.

Benjamin & Henry

This is a shot of the boys anxiously looking to see where everyone went.  We were visiting family when this shot was taken.  The boys are about a year old here and to me what is the funniest thing is that Benjamin is almost as tall as Henry.  Now that they are fully grown, Henry towers over Ben.

Stating the obvious

This shot was taken in Ocean City, MD.  We decided to take the boys to the beach for a day trip.  While walking on the boardwalk, we passed by a sign for Red Dog and of course could not resist making the boys pose next to a sign marked dog.  To complete his beach look, Benjamin is wearing an infant muscle tee.

The boys in their toy basket

Here is a shot of the boys sleeping in their toy basket at about 12 weeks old.  Before we brought the boys home, we went out and bought them a nice, lined wicker toy basket and filled it with toys.  We were young and naive because the boys had the toy box completely chewed in about one morning.  I guess we weren’t really thinking like a puppy when we bought the basket!

This is Baby Benny at about 12 weeks old.  When he was truly Baby Benny.

Standing Guard

Benjamin waiting for his turkey to be cooked

Each week when I cook the turkey for the gang’s food, Benjamin parks himself on the mat by the stove.  He stays there the entire time I am cooking and while he relaxes a bit he is always alert and ready to pounce on any morsel I may drop.

While I love Benjamin and enjoy doing things with him, I wish he didn’t try to help as I cooked turkey.  Cooking about 11 packages a ground turkey is a tedious process and I could sure use the extra foot room while I am working.  But that is where the little man likes to lay, so I just work around him.

Luna and Henry aren’t as interested in the cooking process.  They prefer to lounge in the living room while I cook.

Pull up a Chair

Benjamin at the table

Benny loves to eat and whenever anyone is in the kitchen Benjamin always keeps a watchful eye on them.  So it is no surprise that whenever we sit down to eat at the kitchen table, Benjamin always helps himself to a seat.

This usually isn’t a problem and unless we have company over there is always two extra chairs at the table.  So we allow Benjamin to have a seat at the table.  Unless Cheerios are on the table, he usually has very good manners and does not try to snag anything off the table.  He just patiently sits on the chair watching us eat.  He really likes to be able to see what is going on and he just doesn’t have a good enough view from the floor.

What I find amusing about Benny sitting at the table with us while we eat is the way he sits on the chairs.  He always has one leg hanging out the middle of the chair.  Sometimes he tires while we are eating and starts to nod off.  I am waiting for him to slip right through the back of the chair one day.

Repeat Offender?

Benjamin at the table

As the case against Benjamin, the Cheerio thief, builds new evidence has surfaced - a picture of Benjamin planning his next heist.  It seems the little guy really has a thing for Cheerios.

Pumpkin Bread

Benjmain waiting for pumpkin bread

Saying that Benjamin loves pumpkin bread would be a huge understatement.  The boy goes crazy for pumpkin bread.  He can’t control himself.  He has even scratched at the oven door while the bread was baking!  And when the bread is cooling on the counter you pretty much have to take him out of the house because he will whine, bark, claw and scratch at the counter to get to the bread.

Whenever anyone has a slice you always have to cut a small sliver for Baby Benny, Henry and Luna.  Henry and Luna are very fond of pumpkin bread as well, but not in such a crazy way.

Once it is time for the bread to be put away, you need to be pretty creative.  If you just put the bread in the pantry or any other cabinet, Benjamin will spend all of his time whining and barking at the pumpkin bread.  The boy has a great nose and if the bread is anywhere in the kitchen he will find it!  So we have to resort to hiding the pumpkin bread in odd places around the house, like say in the guest room closet.  I’m just waiting for the day when someone comes over and opens a closet in my house and finds a loaf of pumpkin bread sitting in such an odd place.  It may take me awhile to explain that one.

The Cat’s Shadow

Benjmain in the cat's basket

All the four legged creatures in the house have their favorite napping spots.  Occasionally, one of them will switch things up, but for the most part each one of them sticks to their tried and tested napping spot.

The cat’s favorite place to sleep is in a wicker basket on my desk.  She loves that basket and has even started sleeping in it when I am not in my office, which is extremely rare for her because she always likes to be in the same room as someone in the house.

The other day, Benjamin was sitting in my lap while I was working at my desk.  The cat was prowling around the house and her desktop basket was vacant.  In the blink of an eye, Benjamin leaped from my lap onto my desk and into the cat’s basket.  In a matter of seconds he settled and was ready to take a nap while I typed away at my desk.  The first thing I did was look for the cat.  If she saw Benjamin in her basket she would have a fit.  She couldn’t stand to have pug fur in her basket!  As luck would have it, I had another wicker basket.  I quickly grabbed it out of the closest and sat it on my desk next to the cat’s basket.  With a little coaxing, Benjamin made himself comfortable in his very own basket and while the cat wasn’t looking I brushed all of the dog germs out of her basket.  So now I have two wicker baskets on my desk.  Needless to say things sure are getting a little cramped.

I’m not really sure why, but Benjamin really likes to emulate whatever the cat does.  It is really sweet, but it drives the cat nuts.  She isn’t really interested in having a pug follow her around all day and nap in favorite sleeping spots.
