Pug Pile

Benjamin, Henry and Luna

In the morning, Benjamin, Henry & Luna usually get off to a slow start.  Here the gang is all piled up in the chair and a little mad at me because I moved them from the bed to the chair so I could make the bed.

But being the troopers they are, they made due with just the chair and blanket and managed to catch a couple more minutes of shuteye before getting up and gettting their day started.

A Walk in the Park

Benjamin, Henry & Luna on the observation deck

This weekend we decided to get out and enjoy the beautiful spring weather.  We took the boys to a local park and went for a nice, long walk on the trails.

While walking we came across a bird observation deck.  The deck was about two stories off the ground and had a nice bench at the top.  Everyone eagerly climbed the stairs to the top of the deck and gazed out at the trees and the water below.  Baby Benny appears to be afraid of heights because he wasn’t too keen on going close to the edge and looking out.

We did however take a small break from our walk and enjoy the view for a bit.  During that time, everyone sat on the bench and waited while we looked around.

After our short break, it was back to the trails.  The boys had fun smelling and trotting along.  Little Luna was going full steam ahead and was very anxious to go exploring.  We had fun and after our long walk everyone was quite tired and ready for a nap.

Good Boys

The boys sleeping

When we decided we were going to adopt another dog, one of the biggest worries I had was how the boys would react.  The boys have such a strong bond and an interesting dynamic that I didn’t want to ruin that by brining a third pug into the house.  At the other end of the spectrum, I was worried that since the boys have such a strong bond, they would want nothing to do with the new pug.

We have had Luna for about two months and luckily none of my worries are true.  The boys have accepted Luna and welcomed her to the pack and Benjamin & Henry are still the inseparable duo they were before Luna arrived.

I feel really lucky that the boys have accepted Luna so well.  She has only been here for two months but it feels like she has always been a part of our family.  I give a lot of credit to the boys, but I also give a lot of credit to Luna.  The little girl is so eager to please and I think she really likes her big brothers.  I know the boys love having a little sister.

Ready to be served

Henry with his bib

When Henry sits in your lap, one of the first things he usually does is throw himself on his back.  He has complete trust that you will catch him and help him get comfortable so you really need to be paying attention or else he may just throw himself right off your lap.  Once he has settled in, he will stay there forever.  Sometimes he naps, but most of the time he just watches what is going on in the room.

The other day, we were sitting at the table and Henry had been on my lap for a good half hour.  So we decided to play a little dress up with him.  We gave him a bib and I guess he liked it.  He sat with his bib on for about 15 minutes before I finally had to get up and do some chores around the house.

Why I love weekends

Lazy weekend breakfast

Weekday mornings are pretty hectic around here.  We get up, feed the dogs, go for a short walk, get ready for work, eat breakfast and then rush off to work.  Weekends are great because there is usually extra time to sit around and talk after eating breakfast.  During this time, a pug or two will usually join you at the table and quietly rest on your lap.  There is nothing better than down time with the gang.

Gimme five lil’ sis

Gimme five

Henry is a very vocal pug.  It seems like he has a lot to say.  When a stranger comes into the house, it is not uncommon to have Henry sit at their feet and bark at them.  Now, you are probably saying that a dog barking at a stranger is pretty normal, but he isn’t barking to be aggressive or to get the stranger out of his house. His bark is a little “woo woo woo woo” and is very calm and almost playful. He doesn’t jump on them or growl.  It is pretty obvious that he is trying to tell them something, we just don’t know what.

Henry does the same thing with Luna.  He will walk up to her and just start barking at her.  Most of the time this makes Luna jump on Henry and they start to play, but sometimes Luna just sits there with a blank look on her face.  This, of course, makes Henry bark louder.

In addition to barking, Henry has now started pawing at Luna to get her to play.  He will walk over to her and tap her on her back as if to say, “Your it!”  Other times he will throw himself on the ground, roll over to his back and waive his paws at her. All in an effort to have his little sister pay attention to him.

Taking the hint

Benjamin, Henry & Luna giving me some clues

On Sunday morning, I had to go to the garage to get something out of the car and before I even realized it Benjamin, Henry & Luna had snuck into the car and were camped out in the front seat.

I told them that we weren’t going for a car ride, but they weren’t taking no for an answer.  They were persistent and wouldn’t leave the car until I brought out the treats and I promised them that after breakfast we would go for a ride to the park.

So despite the fact that it was a very windy day, after breakfast we drove the long way to the park so the boys and little Luna could have some extra time in the car and we took a nice long walk at the park.

They twisted my arm, but we had fun!
