A Coversation with Luna’s Foster Mom

Well, last night I received an exciting phone call.  The call came from Luna’s foster mom.  We spoke for a while about Luna.  I was really curious to know some personal things about her.  I wanted to know what her favorite toys are, what she eats, if she is crate trained.  I even asked what her bark sounded like.  My curiousity has been killing me!  Well, the answers weren’t that surpising.  She likes plush toys the best.  (I kind of thought that would be the case because that is what the boys like best, too.)  She is on Science Diet Nature’s Best.  She is not crate trained.  However, the funniest thing was that her foster mom described Luna’s bark to be something like a high pitched Dino (of Flintstone’s fame) bark.  That is the thing that I really got a chuckle from because it sounds so different than what the boys’ barks sound like.  I will be curious to see how that food works for her.  As I am sure you know if you’ve ever read the blog, the boys eat home cooked foods.  That is predominantly because they have acid reflux and Benny has had a bout with pancreatitis.  In any event, it was great to hear from Luna’s foster mom.  We are so excited to go get her that we can hardly wait!  Only 2 more days!

PS I really want to express gratitude to Luna’s foster mom for doing such an honorable job.  Being a foster must be so bittersweet and they play such an important role in making sure that dogs in need of good homes get the love they deserve.

Getting ready for Luna

New things for Luna

We are so excited to welcome Luna to the family that we thought it would be nice for her to have a little goodie basket waiting when she arrived.  First we started with the essentials, such as a leash, collar, harness and name tag.  We really like Benjamin & Henry’s hemp harnesses from EarthDog, so we decided to get one for Luna as well.

Then we got her a Kong because, let’s face it, every dog should have a Kong.  There is nothing the boys like better than a peanut butter Kong and hopefully little Luna will enjoy them too.

We also ordered a couple of plush toys for Luna.  We were going to order more, but then we realized we don’t really know what she prefers.  Benjamin & Henry have very different tastes when it comes to toys and since we haven’t met Luna yet we’re not quite sure what types of things she will like best.  So we figured we would let her get settled in and learn more about her likes and dislikes before we completely fill her toy box.

We can’t wait to bring her home and start learning more about her pug personality!

“Are You Crazy? No, just a Luna-tic.”

Luna

Well, if it is not obvious by now that we are crazy and crazy for pugs it soon will be quite apparent.  We have been anxious to announce the new arrival of our pug rescue, Luna. We applied in October for a rescue from Compassionate Pug Rescue.  They work in rescuing pugs in Florida.  We went through the process and it is official that we are approved and little Luna will be coming to our home around the end of the month.

We had planned to get another pug when Benjamin & Henry turned 2 or 3 in order to keep them lively and originally intended on getting a puppy that would run circles around them. But after much thought and consideration, we opted to apply for a rescue.  We also thought that it would be best if the boys had a little girl to play with since we have noticed (observing at dog parks and with the neighborhood friends)that they play much more nicely with girl dogs.  (Not to mention that it would be adorable to get a little pink leash and pink accessories.)

Luna is not a perfectly healthy 3 year old puggie.  She has mange and is in treatment for it but definately seems well on the road to recovery.  She also has an eye condition.  In the midst of the excitement, however, I have already forgotten what it is called.  She may ultimately recover from the condition but there is a possibility that she could lose her sight in one eye.

Luna is really what we were looking for, though.  A young, female pug whose life hadn’t been so perfect.  We wanted to offer our home to her so that she can see what a pug’s life should be.  She’ll be spoiled rotten within the 1st week, no doubt.

When we told friends and family they all thought we were crazy to get a 3rd dog (and don’t forget we have a cat, too.)  The other thing that made us know that this was an omen was that our beloved bunny, Lou C. passed away this summer and it feels like Lou is looking down on us from bunny heaven sending us a new “Lu” in Luna.  So, of course, there is no other answer to the questions about our sanity:  yup, we are certified Luna-tics.

Lazy Sunday

Henry and Luna

Two sleepy heads on Sunday morning. As you can see, neither one had big plans for the day.
