Luna vs The Monkey from obp on Vimeo.
This video is from 2007
Luna loved to play with this squeaky monkey toy, but as soon as it squeaked she would stop playing with it. We were always surprised she liked to play with it because it was about as big as she is.
Until recently we still had the toy. But we made the mistake of letting Monroe play with it and as soon as she picked it up she ran off into the woods with it and hid it. We went to look for it, but could not find it anywhere.
So Luna's squeaky monkey is hanging out somewhere in the woods. I always think that one day I will be out walking the pugs and I will hear the monkey squeak off in the distance.

Benny was a little jealous that Luna got so many kudos for compromising and spending time with Henry in the sun and Benny in the shade that he thought he would work on his own compromise. So, his butt in in the sun! What do you think? You think that is enough of a compromise?

Today is Henry's 11th birthday!
Henry is our calm and thoughtful pug. He is definitely a thinker and sometimes you can see the little wheels spinning in his head. He is also the most trusting of the group, sometimes a little too trusting. When he was a puppy, he rode in the back of our SUV in a crate so that him and Benny would not be wreaking havoc in the car while we were trying to drive. As soon as I would open the hatch and his crate, he would jump right into my arms. He trusted that I would catch him no matter what.
Ironically enough, as calm as Henry is, he has a bite sticker on his chart at the vet. That is because Henry has one rule: Don't attempt to clip my back toenails! When we try to trim his nails he gives us such a hard time. So we thought the vet techs might have a little bit better luck at getting his nails trimmed. They took him to the back to trim his nails and when everyone came back, Henry has this super proud look and a nice little bite sticker on his chart. Turns out he is better behaved for us than the techs at the vet.
While Henry loves to swim, lay out in the sun, take walks and eat treats, there is nothing he loves more than to be pet. He can be relentless in his pursuit of petting. If he is in a room full of people it is funny to watch how he works the room and gets everyone in it to pet him.
Happy Birthday, Hank!

Since turning 11, Benny has been having a bit of a mid pug life crisis and has been chewing incessantly. It's like he needs to prove to himself that he can still chew as much as he did when he was a pup. As a result, he has been digging every bone out of the toy box. He even drug out this old knuckle bone and was chewing it for a bit. Which is super surprising because once the pugs work all the good stuff off a knuckle bone they generally have no interest in it.
After Benny finished chewing, he abandoned the bone in one of the dog beds and Luna happily had a turn chewing the ginormous bone. But, in true Luna form, she did it with style!

This flashback is from November, 2003.
Not only did Henry have a favorite cat toy, Benny had one as well. Benny's favorite was plastic cylinder with a toy mouse inside. The mouse was on an elastic string inside the cylinder. The string was shorter than the cylinder so you had to get a hold of the mouse and pull it to get it out of the cylinder.
Benjamin obsessed with getting that mouse out of the plastic container. He would contort his body in hopes to get a better angle.

He would peek through the holes in the sides in hopes of figuring out a new plan of attack.

But most of the time, he would try to shove his flat put nose in the cylinder and try to grab hold of the mouse.

If only he had a snout!

Has Luna joined Henry as a lover of the sun? Nope! It seems Luna likes to play the party lines and spends some time with Henry in the sun and then she joins Benny in the shade. At least she gives it a shot. Benny never parts ways with the shade.
It is funny how much Henry loves the sun. We pretty much know that if we take him on a walk or out to potty at high noon he will collapse in the grass. He reminds me of one of those collapsing push puppet dolls. The suns rays beaming down on him push his button and he just falls out. And there is no getting him to move. The only way you will get him back in the house is to pick him up and carry him. Or lure him with a treat. That will work because food trumps everything. Even the sun.
