This is a super long story so I have broken it up into multiple parts.
The night we got back from Miami with the pugs, we spotted a dog in our neighborhood that we had never seen before. The pugs were out for their final potty of the night. It was dark and they were very tired from their big adventure to Miami. Heck, I was tired from our big adventure to Miami and the long drive home.
While we were out, I spotted a pair of glowing eyes spying on us from across the street. I could make out that it was a dog, but I wasn't sure whose dog it was. Not knowing anything about the dog, I hurried the pugs into the house.
After we got the pugs into the house safe and sound, we went out to check on the dog. While we were gone the stray dog walked out of the shadows and was now standing in the middle of the street. She was all white, had a pink harness on and had pointy ears.
I called to her and she turned her head a bit. I asked her what she was doing out so late and where did she live. More head turning. I took a few steps towards her and she bolted across the street and into the woods faster than I have ever seen any dog run before.
Wow! We headed back inside, got ready for bed and I fell asleep with this mysterious white dog on my mind.
The next evening, while out with the pugs, we spotted the stray dog again. This time it was a little lighter outside and I could get a better look at her. I could tell that she was super skinny. She had definitely not been eating regularly.
Before, I could make it back into the house with the pugs and get the white dog some food, a car came down the street. My heart leapt to my throat, but just like the night before the dog raced backed into the woods.
After we got back to the house, we decided we needed to give this mystery dog a name (we name everything). After some debate, and after having just watched the movie My Week with Marilyn we decided on Monroe. She was a blonde dog that had clearly been used and abused up to this point in her life.
The pugs also had an upcoming visit with the vet. I made a note to talk to the vet about Monroe and find out if it was safe to have the pugs around her. After all, the only time Monroe seemed to come near us was when the pugs were with us.
After my visit at the vet, I felt comfortable having the pugs around Monroe. My vet's biggest warning was to keep the pugs away from Monroe's stool. Since it was safe to have Monroe around the pugs, I made a stop at the store and picked up some dog food. We made the decision that we were going to start feeding this skinny dog.

The day the pugs have been waiting for has finally arrived! G-Ma comes to visit! And when G-Ma visits she brings a suitcase full of goodies. Benny, Henry & Luna can't wait to see what she has brought.

Last week the pugs made a trek to the vet. Each was visiting for various reasons (more on that later). Benny was in to have blood work done. We got the results a few days later and everything looked normal except his thyroid is a little low. When I got the news, I thought this explains a lot.
Benny has slowed down a lot lately. Granted he is 10 now, but compared to Henry he is a complete couch potato. He also seems to have picked up a pound to two (or maybe three) and his feeding routine has not changed at all.
I chalked it up to him getting older, but his thyroid could certainly play a part in all of this. Don't get me wrong, his age probably plays the biggest factor in his recent energy level and unexpected weight gain, but getting his thyroid back to normal levels will certainly help.
Benny boy heads back to the vet in about 6 weeks for another blood test to see if the dosage for his meds is correct and to see if his thyroid function has improved to normal levels with the help of his medicine.

Our 1000 pugs shoot was fantastic and our trip to Miami was so much fun that we really would like to do it again. The only thing we didn't get to do was meet Puglet while we were in Miami. Puglet was in town, but he was having a little trouble handling the south Florida weather. Word was that he was melting in the FL heat, so we didn't get to meet the original pug super model.
I guess the heat and humidity of FL is quite a shock to someone that is used to the weather on the left coast. I talked to several other FL pug owners there for the shoot and we were quite pleased that it was as cool as it was. Our shoot time was at 1pm so I was super worried about how hot it would be for Benjamin, Henry & Luna. It was hot, but luckily it wasn't as bad as it could have been .
Fingers crossed that if I ever cross paths with Amanda again that we will get to meet Puglet.

I always knew Luna was a little diva, but I had no idea how much of a diva she really was until she got in front of Amanda's lens. I almost fell over and hit the ground when I saw how much Luna was turning on the charm.
For me, Luna is the hardest of the bunch to photograph. She is always very wiggly and she always walks right up to the camera lens. But for Amanda, Luna wasn't wiggly at all. And she was like, here get a few pics of my good side and have a showed you how cute my ears are when I do this? I was so very proud of her! She super modeled her curly tail off.
But now, I am going to have higher expectations for the little miss because she has revealed her true super model talents.
