All Henry, All the TIme

Henry

As we move forward after the back to back blows, we are laying all our eggs in the Henry basket. We have been doing our best to keep his spirits high (which in turn has been helping us, too). Now that Henry no longer has a stay home buddy he hasn't really stayed home much. He has been going almost everywhere with us. This has inadvertently caused its own problem. He now EXPECTS to go everywhere. That means to work with us, to the grocery store, to the gym, etc. It was a delicate balance in the beginning. We were fortunate to have the weekend to get Henry used to being the last pug standing but as the weekend wore on, we knew that we would not want his first alone time to be first thing Monday morning. And we wanted him to be so exhausted by Monday that he wouldn't care if we were there or not. (And that plan did work! He was pretty wiped out when Grammy pugsat that day. And even into Tuesday he was still mellow!)

So, we took Henry on walks in the park, walks around the neighborhood, for car rides, to go get ice cream and the big adventure was that Henry went to visit my job. I got the ok to take him to work with me a day or 2 each week. It won't be the same as it was when I worked from home, but it will be kind of similar. So, we began the grooming process. We took him to my job for a little while when no one was there. This way he could his get sniff on and lose that initial excitement in private. Later in the week, we took him there at the end of the day so he could meet some of my co-workers. On both trips he did an awesome job! Henry loved the attention from the guys at my job and they poured on the lovin'! He took control of the room as soon as he walked in. He was a pug on fire!

However, getting inside my office was a little tricky. There is a flight of steps with no backs leading up my office door. Henry was a bit apprehensive about the stairs but he even navigated that. Not quite with "ease" per se, but he did manage to get up the whole flight on his own. He was not comfortable going down, though. So, he got a lift (he was carried). On the second visit, though, Henry owned the steps both up and down.

We will keep you abreast of further progression as Henry may become a working class dog. hahaha!

So, for now, it is all Henry, all the time. We are just putting all of the focus on him now. He still has a lot of life left and if we are honest, he's missed out on a lot of fun stuff because his siblings were not able to keep up with his pace. We want to be sure that we are giving him everything he needs in his golden years, too.

PS For those questioning, no.... no more pugs anytime soon. But thank you all for the suggestions. We will be a one pug show until there are no more pugs. Then we will decide what next after that.

PPS And last, again, we are so grateful for all the readers that have read, prayed, sent loving well wishes, shared kind words, kept us in your thoughts. It has been a trying time and all of your support has truly been comforting. To those that have loved and lost and those that are loving and on the edge of losing, we know your pain. In time things will be better. Like Luna, we prevail over the hurdles that life brings and like Benny we try to do it in a positive and good natured way. Thanks again!

It warms my heart that you and Henry are helping each other heal.

Just one notation - never say never.

Love the “all Henry” update!  A working dog…what a great idea to take him in first when no one was around, to get those early, excited sniffs & explorations done.  Thanks for the “future pugs?” note, too.  Was wondering, but didn’t want to ask.  Onward, Henry!  And family.  ...from me and my Henry Pug.

That is so cool that you are able to take Henry to work with you-he must think he is all that, which of course-he is!!!

You go, Henry!  Enjoy yourself!  I know Benny & Luna would want that for you!

And bravo to your employer for being so understanding and considerate and allowing you to bring Henry to work with you!  If only more employers were like yours!

I am glad that you all are starting to heal and helping Henry to get used to being the “last pug standing”. He looks so adorable sitting in the car, with that great puggy smile.

So glad to see this Henry update.  I’ve been wondering how sweet Henry is doing now that he is without his pals.  I can only imagine the pain and sadness that your household is experiencing, but as it’s been said before, Henry is still here and needs all the attention and more that you can give him. I’m glad that doing that is helping the humans with their grief as well.
I look forward to more posts about Henry and his adventures.

Glad to hear a post that has a lot of positives in it!! Good for Henry!! And good for you!!
Coco will go down open steps with no problem but wil not go up them!! I have to carry her up each time .....thank goodness she’s small!!
Coco beau and Lu all lived together for years. And although they have all separated into different homes within our family, they seems to be ok with it. They do get to see each other every couple of months and the reunion is like they were never apart. I’m sure Henry will be fine getting all the attention….. He still has Cupid !! Think about u every day…... Always sending warm thoughts! Xo

Glad to hear that Henry is doing ok. I just imagine that he is enjoying being out and about.  I am glad that Henry can go to your work with you somedays. That really means a lot to all of you.  Thinking of y’all everyday and praying that everyday will get a little easier. I have to say that I admire y’all so much. You are such good pug parents. Love and prayers from Brenda, Genevieve, Oreo, Molly,  and Shadow.

You are gonna need to get Henry a lunch bucket for his trips to work with you!

Your employer should be on the “best places to work” list for being so understanding.

Your workplace is wonderful to have embraced the idea of a new “employee”!  And as with everything, you did a fantastic job of easing Henry into the environment!

So Corrine has her own staff to help when her workload gets a bit heavy!  Hooray for Henry!!

Henry is looking quite pleased with himself!  Love his spunky smile!  What a wonderful thing…to be able to bring him to work every now and again. Both of you will love it! (once the initial excitement wears off!)
I can just see him sniffing and snorting at these new surroundings.
Keeping OBP family in my thoughts and prayers, that all will be ok soon.  xo

Just as you handled the passing of Benny and Luna with love, grace and style——-
You are handling Henry’s “new normal” with sensitivity and caring—- thank you for
teaching us all how to be good pug parents.

God bless pugs; they are so much wiser than humans.  Henry is doing exactly what he needs to do to help YOU through the grieving process.  He is keeping you busy with life-affirming activities that will remind you every day that no matter how much we hurt there is still joy to be had…especially in the little everyday occurrences.  Thank you Henry…you are one smart pug…way better than a whole raft of psychologists, psychiatrists and counselors.

A learning time for your whole family.  Focusing on Henry gives you guys great focus too.  Here’s to many fun, working years for Henry.  I wonder, is he expecting a paycheck?

I think that, especially in Henry’s ‘Golden Years’, he be allowed to be spoiled all by himself.

The more I thought about your decision, the more it honestly makes sense.

I look forward to the updates with Henry, and thank you so much for the love and care you’ve shown your fur kids and allowing us to be part of it. smile

Time does heal-it’s the getting there that is difficult at times. It took me 2 years after our sweet Buttons left for the rainbow bridge and we got Daisey. Now Daisey is nearing her time, too, I am thankful to have Solsie to help just as Henry and Cupid are helping you. How great a comfort our fur babies are in times of hardship and especially sorrow. Big Pug hugs for Herny,Cupid Corrine & Glynn from pastor sue & the Colorado 2
