Baby Benny

This shot was taken back when Benny was really Baby Benny. It was taken in April 2003 in Ocean City, MD and Benjamin was just a year old.

We decided to take Benjamin and Henry to the beach (or down the ocean hun if your from Baltimore) in April because it is the off season and dogs are allowed on the beach and the boardwalk.

It was a windy day and as soon as we hit the boardwalk the wind picked up even more. Benny was a bit chilly so we bought two toddler shirts for the boys from one of the few shops that was open and having a clearance sale. Benny got a tough guy muscle shirt and Henry ended up with a peach Ocean City shirt with sleeves. Needless to say, Henry was unhappy with the fact that his shirt had sleeves and actually refused to walk once we put his shirt on him. So off came Henry's shirt. To this day, he refuses to wear a shirt with sleeves.

We walked up and down the boardwalk and down by the water and the pugs had a blast. I vividly remember the pugs' ears blowing straight up in the air from the strong wind. In fact, the strong winds almost delivered the pugs a whole pizza. We stopped for lunch at one of our favorite pizza places and setup a nice place to eat on the boardwalk. Well, a strong gust of wind came along and blew our pizza right down the boardwalk! Luckily, we were able to catch it and no damage was done, but it was kinda funny chasing our pizza down.

Seems like the boys are a bit more filled out now.  At what age did they start to beef up?  They aren’t fat pugs, just nice and thick and I’m wondering when my Charlie will fill out.  He’s a year and a half and very long and leggy and no matter how much food I give him he doesn’t put on any weight (and no, he doesn’t have worms).

Anyway, I love your blog and look forward to each post!

Baby Benny, oh so many adventurous memories.  Until we look at old photos, we forget just how our puggers change.  Benny, did you help chase down the pizza?

Lisa, your Charlie is a full grown pug.  If he isn’t emaciated I wouldn’t worry about his weight.  Just like humans, they will bulk up some.  Please don’t feed him unlimited amounts of food, just what he is supposed to receive, or he will go the opposite dirction. If you are really concerned, then a visit to the vet might be in order.  Otherwise, just relax and enjoy his youth.

Who knew from this picture that Benny would become a wrinkle machine!  That story is hilarious and I can just picture Henry pulling a pout and the wind pulling the pizza.

Lisa, I second Sue VDB’s comment.  When we got Gracie and Georgie at 3 yrs. old, the papers stated they weighed 13 pounds.  One day, all of a sudden, we weighed them at 3 1/2 yrs. and they weighed 20#  When they did that, I don’t know and what seemed sudden probably wasn’t.  They received no more food than Abby did and she continues to keep her weight around 20#.  Unless there’s a medical reason, enjoy the fact that you don’t have to fill Charlie out.  That will probably happen soon enough, but there are a lot of physical benefits for a pug to not fill out too much.

Give Charlie a smooch from the Swamp Pugs!

Wow Benny, you must’ve been a beautiful baby!! I agree, who knew about the wrinkles?

Lisa, Lilo is still long and leggy, and she’s going to be 4 in October. If it hadn’t been for her puggin noggin and her curly tail, she woulda looked like the weiner dog with the longest legs ever.  Instead she really did resemble ET! Thank goodness she grew into that head. When i got her at 9 weeks she was barely 3 lbs.  Now she’s barely 18, but i too don’t know how that happened lol.  Seemed like she was about 12 - 13 lbs forever.  All i know she’s a lot heavier to lug through the airport than she used to be.  She probly wonders why momma don’t carry her so much anymore…..........cus she’s ain’t heavy, she’s my pug!!!

Blessed good week to you all.  Pug hugs and prayers for all who require them. Love Lilo n me

Sounds like ‘Lilo n me’ does a lot of traveling.  Does she weigh in as extra baggage.  I bet you get a lot of comments from your fellow seat mates.  I don’t fly much any more (as if I did), but I would kill to be next to a pug on a plane.  Perfect.

Lol Huckle, she’s classed as carryon that they don’t count. I’ve learned a lot of tricks traveling w her for sure. I hate that they have to be kennelled as soon as you enter the airport because they want you there so darn early!  Plus she hates going into the kennel and they make you take them out of the kennel to clear security. The last time I flew I had trouble getting her to come out of the kennel at security and then she walked right back in.  One things for sure they always have a laugh. And if you can’t get them in head first, tip the carrier on it’s end and put em in curly tail down lol.

She also will not take the sedation no matter how much cheese it’s wrapped in lol. Last time we flew home, she kinda cries a little bit, so I open her kennel up and slip my foot in. She fell asleep and so did I. Well I woke up and it was getting close to end of flight so I got up to use the washroom, not even thinking I had pulled my foot out of the carrier duh! I’m waiting to use the washroom when I hear this commotion. Pug on the loose and down the aisle she was going with her ears pinned back like when she know she’s in trouble. I was so embarrassed, but the airline attendants were so nice and were like, “it happens all the time”.

I have to find an airline carrier that has wheels on the bottom though because in big airports 18 lbs hanging over your shoulder is pretty heavy.
