Baggage

Luna, Henry and Benjamin

I got home from a quick, weekend trip on Monday and as soon as I arrived home, the pugs were inspecting my suitcase. A lot of dogs think of the suitcase as bad news, but Benjamin, Henry & Luna view suitcases as magical treat portals. Suitcases bring yummy treats from Maryland to Florida courtesy of G-Ma.

Looks like Miss Luna is ready to go on an adventure!!!  Ben and Henry are wondering where the heck the treats are if Looney is in the empty suitcase!

I want to wish all of my OBP family a very happy Thanksgiving.  I’m grateful for all of you!!!

hey Ma… where’s the goods?  I know there must be a treat or two here for me!

I think Henry and Benny are saying “Zip it!”  And Luna, “Make me!”

Cooper almost lost his life last night, or at least part of his fur.  Cooper had been draping himself over the hassock just above Georgie as only Cooper (long limbs and long ears) can drape.  This put them nearly side-by-side although Cooper was higher.  Cooper was chewing on a rawhide and in his enthusiastic chewing, the rawhide fell hitting Georgie in the head.  Now Cooper found himself in a real predicament.  He was desperate to retrieve the rawhide but the problem of a very annoyed Georgie loomed.  Georgie gave him ‘the look’.  There’s only one thing Cooper can do - he whines trying not to really look at Georgie.  Even with his simple mind, Cooper’s no fool.  Georgie then sat up, his eyes never leaving Cooper’s face. Enuf said. The battle of the will won, Georgie lay down again - on top of Cooper’s rawhide.

I hope that all of you have a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving and are able to enjoy it with family and friends.

Henry and Benny look kind of worried. I love how Luna is wagging her tail. Great pic!

Huckle~ the way you wrote that, I can picture it! It sounds adorable, yet scary when they ‘rumble’. What kind of dog is Cooper? I hope he got his rawhide back!

Pip resorted to being a puppy last night with his rawhide. I had to hold it for him while he chewed it like I did when he was little. He was so cute, I couldn’t not hold it!

I hope all who celebrate Thanksgiving have a happy and safe holiday!

When I first clicked, I thought that Luna was in a turkey roaster!!  I know we all love her but do we really want to have her for dinner????  LOL!

Okay, now that I’ve focused…So glad the puggies look forward to the suitcase…C.J. paces when he sees me get ours from the closet!

Happy “Birdday” to you all!

Luna almost looks like a puppy in Mom’s suitcase.  She must be investigating to see if there are any treats left in there, while Henry and Benjamin encourge her to look harder.

I feel you are all dear friends, and I wish each and every one of you Happy Thanksgiving.  Please give all the furbabies hugs from me and sloppy kisses from Romeo.

Karen - now that you mention it, it does look like Luna is in a turkey roaster, perhaps after she ate the turkey?

Gina - I can just picture Pip being babied.  Will he get a small slice of turkey tomorrow?

One of the things I’m most thankful for this Thanksgiving is OBP land and all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Huckle~Pip will get some turkey tomorrow. My hubby and I are cooking and my Dad and my sister will be coming over. Since my Dad will be here, Pip will get more than a small slice. smile My Dad spoils Pip! And Pip is just fine with that. smile

Hope you all have a happy turkey day with your pugs, family and friends:-)  And of course, that there is plenty of turkey to go around to all beings, large and small.

Luna, baby girl, is that a tail swagger I detect?  You are such a petite cutie pie <3

oh, sorry to change the subject, um, well, a rather, unpleasant topic, but I know someone here will have an idea or two for me.  Since Abby and I did the infamous doggy/house/lawn sitting back in september and october, Miss Abigail has had THE most horrendous case of stinky farts in the history of the world.  2 stool sample checks for parasites proved nothing, I was thinking she might have picked up something with all of the rummaging around she was doing in the fenced back yard, cuz ya’ll know bunny turds are delish!

So, then I called all her food and treat manufacturers, and they did not report that there had been any problems, but we replaced all of it anyway.  My next step will be to buy some probiotics when I get paid next week, but the vet was saying that some older dogs just get like this, because their system is getting worn out, or tired?

Personally, if I have gas, it can be painful.  She doesn’t seem disturbed by this, her appetite is stellar as always, she has normal looking poops, she is doing good in the activity and perkiness dept.

Any other suggestions?  I am hoping that once I have the money next week for the probiotics, that that may help.  She hasn’t needed antibiotics now for quite a while, so I wouldn’t think it should still be affecting the little dear so much, at any rate:(  I am just worried she might be uncomfortable with the amount of stinkage coming through.

She’s my first pug, my first dog of my own, will be 13 in January.  I am clueless, and the vet has sort of thrown up her hands into the air and said as long as it’s not a parasite, and she is behaving / eating normally, deal with the stink and it will eventually go away.

Happy Pugsgiving to All!  Enjoy your day, give thanks and hopefully do not end up looking like the turkey…STUFFED!!!

Pug mama… do not know what could be going with your pugger!  Once in a while Mr. Skittles let one go, and yes… he is a lil stinker!!

Pug mama, the one clue of yours that leaped out at me was you calling ALL of her food and treat manufacturers.  It could be you are giving her too many varieties.  When you change dog foods, in most cases, you must do it gradually, introducing the new in more and more until it is completely switched.  Some foods also do not agree with dogs because of the ingredients, mainly corn.  Not knowing what you are feeding her, that is the best I can offer at this time.  I surely don’t mean to sound critical, but that is my #1 concern.  And her age could also contribute.  Sloppy kisses to Abby from Romeo and hugs from me to you and Abby.  Happy Thanksgiving.

1 dog food, 1 flavor/brand of canned, her charlie bear treats.  so that is it in the dog food/treat area, I guess I wasn’t thinking that was too many?  But I did do some internet research about her kibble after I posted last night, thinking I should do more research on my own, and I was stunned about some of the horrible things people say about that brand, even though her vet has never had an issue with my feeding her that.  Not gonna mention which one, cuz I fear hearing an earful of opinions, that, I guess, until 6 wks ago, I have this nearly 13 yr old pug that has eaten that brand since she was 8 wks old and has not had farts like this before.  But, yes, it is an evil one with filling corn in it, so maybe my girl Abby just doesn’t like corn anymore.  It is just weird how it happened right at the same time as the housesitting, but maybe that stress was her catalyst?

Pug mama, I don’t mind telling people I feed my babies Wellness SuperMix 5 senior.  It is expensive, but they do very well on it, and it is very healthy.  No aritifical anything.  If Abby has become allergic to grain, they also have Wellness Core.  Check out their website, Wellness Pet Food.

Huckle

Sue VDB - I’m with you on that one.  Giving a dog what seems to be expensive is not really in regard to costly vet bills when they get sick from all the additives, allergic reaction to some foods as well as what I believe to be a longer, healthy life.  You just have to do your homework to see what’s something you can give her.  If there is, say, chicken meal it is not always the best part of the chicken all ground up.

Earlier this week I found at our local Krogers in the pet food department, a refrigerated case that had rolls of fresh meat pet food called Freshpet Select (store locator www.freshpetselect.com)  For 6#s it cost $11, but that’s less than $2 a pound, is marked off in 1/2# increments to slice off and is no more than ground meat (ave. $2 a pound) that I was cooking for the four of them to mix with the dry kibble (Blue Buffalo)or with the canned food ($2.59/can) and kibble.  It sounds like it’s a good source of all they need without additives.  Just pure products.

Has anyone else tried it?  My group just wolfed it down, even finicky Abby.  It’s a thought. you might want to try.  (I’m off to buy some stock in Freshpet Select!)  smile

Pug mama - I have a friend who swears that fresh bones gave her dogs GAS!  I don’t notice it with ours but Cooper1 could clear a room.  Maybe a food allergy also?

Abby has never got real bones, and we gave up on rawhides quite a while ago because she tended to not be a safe chewer.  She has a couple old Nylabones that she will gnaw on at bedtime and that keeps her pretty happy.

Incidently, Abby’s kitty sister Dinah, was diagnosed with kidney disease recently and in searching for the right food for the kitty, I went to a natural pet store, because some of their brands had the lower protein and lower phosphorus needs for Dinah, but when we were there it was a dead rainy saturday afternoon, so the clerk in the store was more than happy to talk to me about anything, including some of the dog foods they carried.  She sent me home with 5 different sample flavors of the Fromm kibble, kinda laughing at the one called Pork and Applesauce, but in talking I learned that my judging the higher price is so wrong, because these foods, most would not need to be fed at the same volume, so 5 lbs of the current food would not go as far as 5 lbs of the more nutrition intense food types I found at this specialty store.  I am getting up to speed.

Huckle, also thank you so much for your info and experience about the FreshPet Select, that seems like it might be like a very viable alternative to the pedigree weight control wet food she eats with her kibble.

Thanks all!

Luna is no Dummie! She is so small and all the treats are gone soooooooo, maybe Grannie will not see her and she will go for a trip!!!

Through all my pug days I had only really old pugs that had the fart problem. I tried everything with the first one until a Vet told me FORGET IT!!! It is a fact of life!
