Beach Friends

Benjamin and Luna

There were lots of young pups at the beach last Saturday. The pugs made friends with 2 wiener dogs, a golden retriever, a husky and a black lab. The pugs were by far the oldest dogs on the beach. At almost 10 the boys were more than double the age of the oldest non pug on the beach. The husky was only 9 months old and after watching her run all over the beach I realize I have forgotten how much energy is crammed into a puppy body.

While the boys could not keep up with the husky or the golden, I was glad to see them get in the mix a few times. Henry used his smarts and pounced on the golden in one of their games of chase. After that victory, he was content to watch all the other dogs run around. I think he wanted to go out on top and just prove to himself that he still has it. wink Which is better than what Benny did. After chasing the husky and golden to no avail, Benny just stopped and whined at them.

But, Luna, at almost 8 was in the mix of everything. And this picture pretty much sums up her feisty personality. She loves nothing more than to play with the little dogs, but she isn't afraid to mix it up with the big dogs. And the thing that surprises everyone is how fast Luna is. She can really pour it on when she wants to.

Lune you warmed my heart and put a smile on my face this morning.  You have it going girl.

Henry and Benny, don’t feel bad.  You did what you could and I bet it was awesome.

GO, LUNEY!!  Next to pugs - I think doxies - with their stubby little legs - really have it going on.  We used to have a full-sized dachshund (please - not weiner dog) named Schotzie and she was a piece of work.  Survived an attack by a German Shepherd and ever-after had to raise her front legs when she barked, but she loved to swim and dig holes in the back yard (mole-digger) and was happy to “adopt” the Pekingese puppy my mother brought home to keep Schotzie young.  I will always have a soft spot when it comes to the doxies.

I love how Luna got into the mix of things! What a sweet baby! And the boys too!

Mary ~ We dog sit a doxie every now and then and she is so sweet. She is black and tan and super small but she is full grown. She was a rescue and had been named already. Susie. Well her human Mom who adopted her, her name is Susie as well so the doxie is known as Susie dog. We really enjoy having Susie Dog stay with us!

GINA:  Susie-Dog!  That’s funny.  Seeing those bigger dogs running around with LUNA reminds me of this week’s CASTLE series that had a Chihuahua asserting her Pack Leader status over a Golden Retriever.  I love the show - was kind of hoping they would put the Retriever on as regular cast member - but no tomato.  I would love having a Turner & Hooch type of TV series.  Bella also enjoys watching the shows with dogguses.

I love the pictures and the story too.

For the playing, Henry used strategy and Luna used energy.  And Baby Benny used his personality!

MARTHA:  Good assessment.

sue:  What a household of entertainment you have!!  Since my Bella and I both are “only children” - it’s fascinating for both us to see lots of doggies inter-acting and playing together.  Again, if it weren’t for Bella’s allergies, I would love to have another dog for a buddy for her.
