Car Rides

Luna and Henry

One thing we got in the habit of doing more with the pugs when Solsey was around was taking all the pugs out with us when we ran errands. At first, it was hard for Benjamin, Henry & Luna to get used to the fact that the car ride was not going to end with them arriving at some spectacular place. When I would drive to a building, punch some buttons on a big machine and then return back home, the fawns would be extremely disappointed. But after some time, they started to figure out the difference between errands and trips to the dog park and other exciting places. So now they aren't as disheartened if they go out and don't actually get to get out of the car.

If we have to actually go in a store for a quick stop, the pugs only get to go if we both are going. That way one of us can wait in the car with them. This works great for the winter & spring months here in FL, but in the summer there is no way the pugs are going to be able to go on these quick little trips. Even with the A/C running in the car, it still gets very hot in the truck if you are just sitting in a parking lot.

So we are trying to make the most of our spring-time errands because I know summer will be here before we even know it.

Benjamin

And look at Baby Benny. All the car rides he has been going on has given him a bit of confidence and he will now stick his head out the window a bit when we are parked. I think he managed to stick a whole inch of his head out the window on this trip.

I’ve been living in the UK for the last month and will be here another month (with a possible permanent move in May).  I’m using another person’s computer and am having trouble just sending an email question by following the link at the bottom of the page.

I wanted to read up again on Luna’s history (after reading that yet again someone had picked her as your oldest pug) and cannot find the link anymore to past posts.  It was divided into categories and I’m sure I’d seen Luna’s history there.

Can you help?!

Oh my, I have been ‘gone’ and in OBP withdrawals for a couple days.  This Puggie Household was uprooted and relocated. While the boys get to chill out with ‘their John’ and eat steak, get belly rubs, and alternate between play and naps, Momma has been busting her you-know-what trying to get the new digs in pug appropriate conditions.

So…excuse the length of this post while I get caught up saying…the mulch picture is so awesome!  I agree with Sue VDB that it made me tired just looking at it, but what a great shot of the Kings and Queen of the Mulch Mountain!

Luna’s closeup is precious and I love that you can see her beautiful grey lashes in the pic.  Gorgeous, grey princess!

Sue and Sue VDB, thank you SO much for asking about Cole and Baxter.  That means so much!  I can’t say enough wonderful things to express what a perfect fit Cole is in our family.  The adjustment period for both him and Baxter has been virtually non-existent and they have become fast friends.  Some playful wrestling matches have ensued grin and two pug brothers spooning each other is a common sight lately.  *swoon*  (Corrine, I sent you a couple “new brother” pics, but they were huge…not sure if it ever went through…I was trying to help you smile through the tears with a couple handsome pug mugs!).

Anyway, sorry to be so long-winded…I missed my daily OBP and all of you!!  Lots of love to everyone…Henry, Ben, and Miss Looney - enjoy those spring car rides, Loves…it looks like a blast!

Love seeing the puggers happy! Beauty and Daisey will be going on a trip next week and they do so well even on long trips! Heather I am excited to see Cole and Bax-hope it will be soon! Beauty had fun in the new snow we got 8inches and she would come in with snow flakes attached! Have a great day all in OBP-land! Pug-hugs from the(snow covered) COlorado 3

Love these two pictures.  Petite Looney Tunes next to brother Henry is adorable.  And Baby Benny, you are such a brave little pug.

Heather, I’m glad to hear that Cole and Bax are good friends.  I’m sure that Bax is happy to have a playmate again, and that you can smile again.

Heather,
Congratulations on your sweet Cole!  I’m so glad to know everything went well, including Baxter’s adjustment!

And I love hearing about how happy Benjamin, Henry and Looney are for their car rides!  That’s one thing we’ve never been able to do with Bennie.  He gets kind of hyper in the car.  He whines, walks around constantly, keeps trying to jump into the front seat, and isn’t happy if we let him in the front.  We tried a car seat harness, and he didn’t like that.  Any suggestions?  All my previous dogs loved the car and were calm.  The best thing for Bennie is to put him in a crate.  He still whines, but not as much, and in about 15 minutes, settles down.  Has anyone else had a pug act like this?

Rocky and Adrian love going for car rides.  They settle down in the back of the crossover and either sleep on their fluffy blankets or look out the back window.  We found that putting a metal barrier with bars between the back seat and the back of the car does wonders. Gulliver (aka The Pug from the Black Lagoon), on the other hand, pitches a hissy fit and tries to bite through the metal bars to get to me.  He’s only content when he’s sitting on the console between the two front seats and laying his head on my shoulder while I drive.  Needless to say, this doesn’t happen much, so we all have to put up with his silly antics till he decides to settle down and enjoy the ride.
Oh, how I envy you, having Luna, Baby Benny and Henry behave like proper pugs while riding in the car!  They’re so adorable.

I lOVE the pic of Luna and Henry. It sure showcases how tiny she really is…barely up to his shoulders! Cute Benny looks like he sees something very interesting out that window.
Heather, so happy to hear about Baxter and Cole smile

Martha, I have heard crates are the safest way to transport dogs on rides in case of an accident.  Abby will have none of it and isn’t pleased about the car harness but it’s non-negotiable.

Luna and Henry look so “adult” on their ride.  Benny, of course, seems to be another story.  Boy do his wrinkles look moldable and kissable.  I think he needs a “winkle wub”.  Abby demands them all the time.

Corrine, how did Solsey get her name?  I had never heard it before but it fit her perfectly.  I think we all still think about her everyday.

Martha, either a crate or the car harness is mandatory for my babies.  There is no negotiation…their safety is top priority.  They still whine occasionally and I talk to them.  They settle down and have settled down immensenly since they found out they are not getting their way in this matter.

Benny’s look of joy is too cute!

I also try to take Hooie and Tina in the car as much as possible, but made the mistake of getting a car with black carpet:(  Stupid Pug mommy move there….It also gets too hot for my guys even in the Bay Area after April so they have to settle for lots of walks for the most part!

Car rides? We have a van with a lift and GiGi loves it!! She will wait for the ramp to go flat on the ground, lay down and rides up. Going down is even more fun for her.She will NOT get off! It has to go back up so I can get my chair and me off.
You guys are so happy looking and beautiful.
Car rides are great and fun if you end up in a great place.

Heather, I am soooo very happy for you!  After what you have been through, you deserve to have much pug-happiness again!  Way to go Cole!  You’ve cheered Mommy up!

When we go in the F-250, C.J. rides in the baby carseat in the back seat…Toeby MUST be on the console to help drive!  I cannot get him to move his perch and I know he’s not safe!  I need to get car harnesses for both!
