Farewell Friend

Farewell Friend

It is with a heavy heart that I share that long time Owned by Pugs friend Huckle (Nancy Tucker) passed away. She lost her battle with cancer last Thursday.

Nancy's sense of humor always shined through in her comments. Whether it was witty quips about Benjamin, Henry, Luna and Sol or hilarious stories about her own pugs Abbey, Gracie & Georgie. I know her presence on OBP will surely be missed.

As a true pug lover, Nancy asked that any memorials be directed to Ohio Pug Rescue. Their online donation form can be found here. If you do donate, be sure to include Nancy's (Nancy Tucker) name in the comment section so they know the donation is made in her honor.

Nancy was a bigger than life presence on OBP.  I have already missed seeing her witty comments since her illness, and am very sad we will no longer see those stories.

Nancy loved her family and her pugs.  They were able to visit her just before her passing and I am sure that gave her comfort as well as the pugs, because they knew what was happening.

Rest in peace Nancy.  You are truly missed.

It is amazing to me that people who we never actually meet can touch us so deeply and leave such a big whole when they go.  OBP has meant so much to me in so many ways I never thought possible, that until today were all filled with Joy.  I’m so very sorry to hear of Nancy’s passing.  My heart goes out to her family.  And of course to the family I feel like I have here, too.

Such sadness! I have, as so many of us have, enjoyed Nancy ‘Huckles’comments. She will be greatly missed-We can find comfort in she has gone by the rainbow bridge to meet her fur babies who have gone on before her and now will be joined forever. I know she also said hello to all our fur babies there and told them how much they are still missed by us. R.I.P. Pug hugs from pastor sue & the Colorado 2

Nancy certainly was a true pug-lover.  And she was also a true lover of all of us here at OBP!  She leaves a hole in our hearts as well as her family’s.

Rest in Peace, Nancy.  I will miss you.

I know my presence has been sporadic, but I read the blog frequently and I always enjoyed Huckle’s stories about her furry loves’ latest antics.  She really had a way of telling a story, and her household must have been a real hoot!  Nancy, you are going to be missed.  RIP.

I’m a silent OBP fan. I look forward everyday to seeing the pugs and reading the comments. I have to hide the pictures of the pugs from my pug. If she sees them she tries to climb into the screen to get at them.

I don’t know Huckle(Nancy). I only know of her through comments on OBP. I knew from reading the blog she had been ill. This touched me very much today and I just want to send my condolences to her family.

I am overwhelmed by the passing of Ms. Huckle.  We had written, and sent cards and even a Pug pillow when we couldn’t find Pug cards.  We hoped and prayed, but as always, it is in God’s hands, and He knows best what to do.  I am sure that she is in His hands now, and at peace.  I didn’t know the extent of her cancer.  I only know it wasn’t that long ago she broke the news.  So, it must have been bad.  We, my wife and I, miss you Ms. Huckle, and will miss you well into the future.  See you on the other side.

02/01/2014

I have wanted to write you folks for a long time, thanking you for your many kindnesses shown to my wife who you knew as Huckle.

my wife was a wonderful, funny extremely bright lady that I loved very much. When I come home now, the first thing I see are the hopeful faces of our animals (the three dear pugs plus Cooper, our Boxer, Mylie our Chijuajua, Little Bit, our newest cat and Huckleberry III, our large 10 year old yellow cat who pretty much rules the roost.) Their faces are hard to deal with because, although it’s getting better, the pugs particularly and Abby specifically, have that look that says “Did you bring Mom home today”” and it’s really tough to have to tell them that Mom isn’t coming home but she’s in a beautiful place that we will all be together in in due time. My bed is a little crowded as the three pugs, Abby, Georgie, the neurologically challenged pug, and Gracie plus the other three and sometimes four are on me around me, etc.

I will say that I am always plenty warm enough even though we have had extremely cold weather lately.I have an appointment in Blissfield Michigan for Georgie’s acupuncture appointment with a wonderful country vet who Georgie and nancy just loved and I am very fond of him as well. Georgie is always glad to go because on the way home he gets to stop at a McDonalds on the way home and gets two prok sausages for only him. it’s pretty special and we enjoyed that trip so much. This time it will be very hard to turn into that McDonalds because of all the great memories that we had there but just like every thing else, it will get better.

Ladies, I want you guys to know that Nancy talked to me about you often and read some of your posts to me as we sat in our family room. Some of you atre as familiar to me as a dearly cherished relative. Thank you for making Nancy’s last several years such a joy. She absolutely loved you guys and the only thing she loved more were her three dear pugs.

I made her a promise a while back that I would take very good care of her babies if God should take her before he took me. God made an excellent choice for him but not such a good one for the pugs, the other animals and me, but we’re getting better slowly and it will be fine in a little while.

Thank you thank you thank you. You guys are the best friends she had in the whole world and she would sit in her study and write and laugh and call me back there to read to me. Her room also doubles as our laundrt room and it’s tough to go back there and do our wash now. I suppose that will get better also.

Most Sincerely,
Brian

Brian, first my sympathies on the loss of your beautiful wife Nancy.  She is special to many of us.

Second, thank you for letting us know how you and the rest of your crew are doing. If it is any comfort to you at all, I believe the last time the pugs got to visit Nancy, they knew.  Animals have a keen sense about what humans are going through and what is to come.

There are many changes ahead for you and you will be reminded of Nancy at each level, but she is with you watching over you and somehow you will be ok.  It takes time.  Everyone grieves in their own way and their own time.

Please keep in touch with us.  We would like to know how you and the pugs are doing, and give hugs to the Swamp Pugs. We care,

Thank you so much for writing Brian. I have worried so much about her pug babies but now I won’t. Thank you for setting my mind at ease. I am so very sorry for your loss. Nancy was so very special to all of us. Do you really call your chihuahua Miley or do you call her “Taco Breath” as Nancy did? smile

She was always cracking us up. We emailed each other often and she reminded me of my Mom whose name was also Nancy. I know she greeted your wife when she passed.

Please feel free to check in here every once in awhile to let us know how you and how all your pets are doing. I pray for you and your family every day. Time will make things easier. God Bless you.

Dear Brian, Thank you for sharing Nancy’s stories from home-she was a blessing to us, to say the least. I once had a person tell me animals have no heart or soul-I couldn’t disagree more. When your feeling down, please come visit us here at OBP-we are all over the world united in our love of pugs, our fur babies and each other. pug hugs from pastor sue & the Colorado 2

02/02/2014

Ladies,

I was so happy to meet you through Nancy’s stories about Bennie and Luna and all the other “fur babies” that populate the pages of entries on your fantastic blog.

Luna looks a great deal like Nancy’s little Abby who isn’t very big but certainly knows what she wants and almost always gets it. She has that charming ability to almost cock her head all the way around when you mention certain things that she may want such as “treats” or any other word that signifies food in any form. Although Abby is very small in stature, she has a loud and very annoying bark and she gets her way on a regular basis. It’s hard to deny her anything because she is so cute you can’t refuse her.

Georgie is the sweetest little guy who is just happy to be alive and still living with Gracie, who has been his constant companion since very early in their lives.
He has that collapsed trachea problem but since acupuncture, he has made a remarkable change for the better. He still can’t jump up like most other dogs so when I put him on the bed to hunt treats with the other two and I forget he’s up there as I go off to do something else in the house, his incessant bark will remind me that Georgie wants down so he can play with Gracie and bark menacingly at Cooper, the 105 pound wimp.

But then I don’t have to tell you how wonderful the little pugs are. They are definitely a gift of God and I have completely fallen in love with everything about them.

Thanks again for being Nancy’s friends. I don’t believe that she was ever as happy as when she was on the blog and writing things about the people and pugs that brightened her way. You folks were Godsends and I will always be thankful that she found you guys.

I won’t wear out my welcome but I will tell you about pug adventures in Bowling Green from time to time. I love talking about them and it really helps me get through this difficult time.

Thanks again.

Thanks for all of your support during a rather trying time for me. The pugs make it a lot easier because Nancy continues to live through the puppies. There are difficult days but things are slowly getting better.

I had dinner with some friends last night and had a great time, and tonight I ate at the Senior center which is really great and the people are almost all folks who I crossed paths with one way or the other through the 44 years I spent at BGHS and the 59 total years I have spent in the BG area.

Thanks again for everything you did for Nancy and continue to do for me. I really appreciate your kindness…..and Gina, please call me Brian. Mr. Tucker is way too formal for me.

Until later,

Hey Brian,
I am just astounded at how you are just taking over where your loving wife unfortunately left off.  Huckle, I’m sure, is pretty much at peace now, but you aren’t.  You have a tough row to hoe, and I think, a big pair of shoes (figuratively) to fill.  This makes you a helluva good man in my estimation, and probably a much better man than I can ever hope to be.  God bless you.  My lovely wife, Gail and I, are both praying for you.  Please find the time and strength to carry on the way you have been.

Brian and the pugs

02/23/2014

Hi folks!

I thought I’d update you on the activities of Nancy’s pugs out here in frigid Northwest Ohio.

Our first trip to Michigan without “Mommie” went pretty well and Georgie got a really good review by Dr. Leonard. After Georgie’s appointment the two of us stopped at the local McDonalds and I had a #7 breakfast and Georgie got his “regular order” of two sausage patties, no bread…all for him. I tore them up and put them in the box they came in and Georgie disposed of both patties in record time. he is breathing as normally as any of our animals and if you are ever tempted to try acupuncture for breathing issues with your own “fur babies”, I give you a hearty recommendation to try it out. If you are interested in this vet’s program, you can type in Dr. James Leonard veterinarian in Blissfield Michigan and it will probably come up. A very interesting read and a wonderful man.

As far as the other animals are concerned, Abby is sleeping right next to me most nights and the two black pugs are usually on top of each other snoring away. Mylie the Chihuahua sleeps down toward the foot of the bed and Cooper the 105 pound wimp, sleeps at an angle that makes it virtually impossible to get out of bed until Cooper gets up in the morning. All in all, the dogs are getting used to me being the care giver, exerciser and whatever else Nancy used to do and I know that I am a poor substitute but I made a promise and I will keep it for sure.

One other cute thing happened today. As I walked into my bedroom, the newest cat, “Little Bit” who had been terrorizing the big Yellow cat named Huckleberry (actually, Huckleberry III)and as I walked into the bedroom I saw the two of them all wrapped up in each other sleeping peacefully right on top of each other and Huck was licking her new play mate.

Finally, I got a very nice letter thanking us for sending a number of donations to Ohio Pug Rescue and I wanted to thank some of you for your generous on-line contributions in Nancy’s name as well.

Thanks again for everything you did for my wife and I’ll get back to you for another update next month some time.

So wonderful to hear from you Brian. Sounds like you are doing exactly what Nancy wanted. And I know Georgie is very pleased with the McDonalds part. smile

04/09/2014

Acupuncture trip number two was this past Monday and I got there just in time not to be late and Dr. Leonard had been called out on a “barn call” for an ailing horse. Georgie and I waited in the office area and Georgie and I visited with the office dog and cat. Eventually Dr. Leonard got back and our appointment went very well as usual. Georgie really likes this vet, and yes, we stopped for Georgie’s two pork sausage patties and he inhaled them the same way he always does. All of the “brood” are doing well and they are really excited when I get home, which makes me feel good.

i’ll get back to you soon and please give Henry an
extra treat for the eight of us….not counting the gold fish whose exact number is unknown.

Hi Brian-
Glad to hear you and the gang are doing well. Take Care.

Brian and the pugs

05/27/2014

It’s the Ohio Gang, back to update Nancy’s fur babies and their various adventures,

First I tried to get to this segment the other day and the picture kept getting smaller and smaller and not being computer literate to other than a very remedial level, I wrote you a letter under another posting and I think it may have been rejected so today, I was successful in reconnecting..

Georgie is doing fine with his acupuncture treatments but he has another issue now. He has cataracts and is in need of a surgical procedure to restore his sight to a much more functional level.

I come to you folks today seeking your best advice. I was directed by Dr. Leonard (the acupuncturist) to either Ohio State or Michigan State.I opted for OSU because it is slightly closer and I’m very familiar with Columbus due to my athletic activities over many years. Anyway, I called them and set up an appointment which is scheduled for late June. There is a pre surgery workup and examination done before the actual surgery is performed. There is a $150 dollar cost for that. Then they tell me whether it would be wise to go forward or not. Georgie is 8 years old and has some neurological shortcomings but for the most part he gets around fine and is breathing wonderfully thanks to the acupuncture treatments.

I was wondering if the cost figures are in line with normal figures or are these higher than normal? The person who talked to me said that for two cataracts removed and all the follow-up etc the total bill would be in the neighborhood of $3800. I am a retired teacher but Nancy’s dogs are extremely important to me and I am willing to go that high but only if my good friends at OBP think that that price in in line with the norm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As for our other puppies and kitties…Abby, the love of Nancy’s life, is doing wonderfully well, very active etc as I continue to put drops in her eyes every night. She eats like a pig and growls at everyone else when I feed one of them rather than Abby. Gracie, Georgie’s lifetime companion, is doing great and sleeps on 2/3 of my pillow every night, graciously allowing me the last third for my head.

Cooper, the 101 pound wimp, who has lost four pounds since his last vet visit which is good because he was getting a little rotund, so Dad started buying some less fattening food and that, combined with a bowl with dry in it for occasional “snacks” during the day seems to be working well.

The Chihuahua Mylie, or Taco Breath as Sue likes to call her, is also doing well, terrorizing the slimmed down Boxer as they chase each other all over the house, playing tug of war down our main hallway and into the back yard and back in the house….never losing their grip on the tug of war toy of choice. It’s a scream.

The two cats are playing together although Huckleberry tries to look annoyed as they vie for the top level of our 6’ cat tree.“Little Bit” drives Huck absolutrly nuts and seems to relish each opportunity she has to “mess” with Huck. Finally, the fish are doing just fine also.

I will go back to my normal shorter version on my next report but I really would value your opinions about this cataract situation and what you think I should do with this.

Thanks again and Happy Easter to all and have a great Summer.

I’ll be back in about a mnoth…

Sincerely,

Brian

Gina

I think Nancy guided me here Brian! I haven’t looked at this particular OBP page in awhile and for some reason, was really thinking of Nancy so I wanted to read these posts again. And then…a new post from you! I know she guided me here!

Unfortunately, I do not know if that price is along the ‘norm’. Corrine just had Henry’s eye surgery so I’m sure she can give you some advice.

I do know that we can start a “Henry’s eye surgery fund” and maybe throw in a little bit to help with that. I think that would be a nice way to help Nancy’s family. smile I hope I didn’t speak to soon or step on toes but if I know my OBP family, I think some people would agree with me.

Anyway, hopefully other people can give you better advice than me.

As always, so nice to hear from you and thank you so much for letting us know how you all are doing! God Bless!
