Guard Dog
With poor vision and a stature that barely lets her see out the front door, Luna isn’t much of an intimidating presence. Her usual role is to merely support her brothers in barking at whatever they spot outside the door and to show whoever dares to walk in front of the house that if the pugs should so happen to get out from behind this glass door you will be covered in pug kisses three fold. They have the oddest way of going about saying hello - they bark their heads off. But, if you were to let them out they would be as nice and charming as a pug can be.
There have been a few times, and I emphasize a few, that Luna was the lone pug to spot something going on out the front door. And I really wished this happened more often, because it really cracks me up. Usually, Luna is not one bit aware of what she is barking at out the front door. She simply barks because that is what her brothers are doing. But if she happens to spot something that her brothers do not, she tenses up, her ears go into a total alert position and you can just see her straining to see. She stands totally quiet for a second or two trying so hard to process what is going on and wondering why her brothers are not leading the charge. Then, in spurts, she let’s out a Dino-esque bark. When she barks her hind feet leave the ground a bit and after a few barking spurts she is frantically looking for her brothers. You can just see that she is overwhelmed by the responsibility of being the only one to spot the passerby. That she is totally not confident in her ability to take on a task this big, but yet the task is way to important to be ignored. So she sounds the alarm and her brothers can never get there quick enough to suit her. You can just tell that the whole situation is playing out in slow-motion in her head.
Without fail, one if not both of her brothers charge the door and Luna quickly resumes her supporting barker role. A role she is much more comfortable starring in.

I so enjoy your pics. I would love to get a hold of little Luna and give her all kinds of love. She is so precious. Your pics really make my day. I look forward to what’s next. I too have pugs. My pure bred is Chopper and his eye sight is also getting poor, but his pekapug brother and sister more than make up for his eyes. The joy of each little personality is overwhelming sometimes. What a pleasure and honor to be owned by Pugs!!!! Thank you so much for sharing.
