Hamburgler

Sol

After we had constructed the pugs’ makeshift leashes we started the trek to the car.  Sol keeps a different pace than Benjamin, Henry & Luna and since we were walking on leashes made out of poppy bags, the three fawns trotted along and Sol and I followed along at our own pace.  The boys and Luna were pretty much out of site when we passed a little pavilion where a family was having a cookout.  We passed them on the way in, but in all the excitement the pugs did not pay much attention to them.  When we got to the pavilion, Sol stopped dead in her tracks and stood still with her nose in the air sniffing and snorting.  This got everyone’s attention and two ladies came over to pet Sol.  While being petted Sol’s nose was still working overtime and she gradually made her way over to the pavilion.  The ladies said they had an extra hamburger left and Sol was more than welcome to it if she was allowed to have it.  I figured what they heck and they broke off a few pieces of the hamburger and gave it to Sol.  She gobbled it up and went back for seconds.  After eating about half a hamburger it was time to go.  I gave the poopy bags a little tug and Sol came trotting along so very happy with herself.  We made it back to the car and Sol was the happiest pug on earth.

After I brushed the sand from my feet, I got in the car and laughed.  I could just imagine what the ladies at the pavilion thought and what they might tell their friends.  “Funny thing happened today, we had a little black pug crash our cookout looking for food.  We just had to give her something because she was being walked on a leash made out of newspaper sleeves.  Who knows how long it had been since she had eaten!”  In any case, I’m sure we gave them a good laugh.

You are a great hunter, Sol! I wish I could find hamburgers on my walkies. Perhaps I’ll put that in the suggestion box…

You guys have the funniest and best adventures and little Sol was the star of this particular one. After all, who could resist sweet Sol?  I wonder if the other puggies smelled the hamburger on Sol’s breath and wondered why they didn’t get any.

Just goes to show you, there is no such thing as a “disabled” pug…what Miss Sol may lack in her sight and hearing she clearly makes up for with her sense of smell!  What the other three passed up stopped Sol dead in her tracks, and she was able to reap the meaty reward!

How great was that!  Sue VDB, I was thinking the same thing about the burger breath. And Sue S., that was clever.  Ann, maybe Sol should write a new version of Mac Davis’s song:  You gotta stop, and smell the burgers along the way….

I truly believe Sol is an ambassador of good will, sent to ALL of us as a gift from above!  She is, indeed, too precious for words!

I love the story!  Great job Miss Sol!!!  She and the others can crash our cookout anytime.  I have a huge soft spot for the senior pugs and love that Sol got such a great treat for taking her sweet time walking back to the car.  She is just so precious (and Benny, Henry, and Luna too!)

They say that with the loss of one sense, the others strengthen…..here’s proof that her nose is working double time!

I cracked up when I read the title of today’s post.  I knew it had to be a good story and you didn’t let me down!  I too wondered about the tell-tale smell on Sol’s little tongue.  Did the other kids tell her she was busted?  Sleighbelle would have done the same thing…sniffing out the food.  It is so funny that such a little, smooshed up nose can have such a keen sense!

Mugzzy, what does your vet say?  I have a feeling that Fit N’ Trim may not be the best food for your baby.  Please do some research on dog foods, and you may need to go to a premium dog food.  Again, talk to your vet if you haven’t already.

Mugzzy, I would recommend Wellness Healthy Weight; however, it is expensive and you need to research to find a store that carries Wellness brand (not grocery).  Perhaps there are others other there in OBPland you have suggestions for you.  OBP also feeds her dogs homemade food and they maintain a healthy weight.
