Happy Holidays & Happy New Year

Benjamin, Henry & Luna

Happy Holidays from everyone in the OBP household.

It is hard to believe that another year is drawing to a close. I would like to thank all of the loyal OBP readers for being a part of the website this year. An awesome pug community has sprung from this little blog and I am very grateful to all of you for sharing your pug love and support. I wish you all a wonderful 2012.

I am going to be taking a little time off to spend with the pugs and the rest of my family. I will be back on the blog on January 2. See you all next year!

All this pug mama wants for christmas is more time with my precious Abby.  One month from today is her 14th birthday.  Having an unbirthday party for her today.  She is doing pretty ok today, coughing is at a minimum.

I’ll certainly miss all of you during the break, but a well deserved break it is Corrine smile

No Owned By Pugs?  Say it isn’t so.
Yep, we are going to have serious withdrawal going even though you deserve a break Corrine.  Thank you for making this all possible.  We end up becoming caring for each other and their pugs.  And it is because of you.  Perhaps we could all keep in touch and hear about our special babies on this comment site?

Happy holidays for all of you out there in OBP land.

Sue VDB, thank you for the update on Jazzy.  I kept watching her site but couldn’t find an update.  How great is that that she seems on her way to recovery.

Pug mama, did you ever try the cough syrup for her coughing.  We’ll hold your hand and pray for her.

Sue VDB

12/23/2011

pug mama, be positive and hold dear little Abby in your loving arms. Have you reconsidered the trachea wash?  You and Abby are kept in my prayers for a peaceful Christmas and for comfort and relief to Abby.

Hugs,
Sue & Romeo (who is doing better again, and goes in tomorrow morning at 8am for laser/acupuncture)

pug mama

12/23/2011

I asked the vet about the cough medicine, and she said one of the cough pills we tried had the guiafenisin in it, which is what is in cough syrup and safe for dogs.  Incidently, that cough pill didn’t help her much, so I give her the hydrocodone cough pill.  And her vet thinks sedation for a bronchial/tracheal wash would be too risky right now since she is having such a hard time clearing things from her lungs.

Say it isn’t so Corrine, lol.

The gang looks fantastic in the photo. Enjoy your time away as you deserve it and are very much appreciated. I’m not sure what I did before I found OBP.

Merry Christmas to all of you near and far and across the pond in England.

Lol Anjellica. I keep telling my brother fish don’t count. That made me chuckle.

I knew I missed someone yesterday. Glad to hear Abby and Romeo are doing a little better, and thrilled to hear Jazzy has a good prognosis as well.

Love and pug hugs n kisses from our house to yours,

Well for those of you not connected on fb, we have started the Christmas weekend off w a bang. What would it be without some family dysfunction that leads to a brawl and ends up w someone going to the hospital?

I been telling Tux for the last two weeks, she’s gonna give you a licken, meaning Lilo. And as luck would have it, it was completely unintentional. The two of them horsin around on the couch and well Tux got knocked off. Not really clear what exactly he hurt, whether his back or hip or leg but he cried running all the way to the kitchen the poor baby. With Lilo right behind him. (every once in a while she shows she cares).  Even while I called the clinic and had him on my lap she came and sat nose to nose w him.  24hr vet ( praise god we have them here) found him with no pain at all with walking or sitting or complete exam minus xrays and she doesn’t feel he broke anything. He seems just to have some pain with repositioning and cries a little. We tried to stop him but he even climbed the doggy steps no
problem. Hoping some rest will heal him up quickly as they are reluctant to give him anything for pain given that it isn’t constant and because he is so little at just over 5lbs now.

It was much calmer around here once we got home. He’s not tearing around like usual and Lilo had to inspect him the instant we got in the door and she even allowed him to lay on her big bed in the kitchen.

Hoping we don’t have to make a return trip to the vet tomorrow but if that’s what is required that is what we will do.

Wishing you all a safe holiday weekend. Much love, Lilo n Me n Tux

Sue VDB

12/24/2011

Gwen, I pray that Tux does well.  That’s not a way to start off the Christmas weekend.  Please let us know how he does.  I will be checking my email and I have OBP flagged.

Hugs to you and Lilo, and gentle hugs to Tux from Sue VDB and Romeo.

Hey everyone,
Just thought I would give you all a little update, and would like to thank you for all the good pug juju.  Seems to be working. Tux is doing pretty well.  He was still sore Saturday and thought we might have to take him back to the clinic, but mostly he was pretty good so we decided against it.  He still has the occasionnal moment where he lets out a little shriek, but then he is just fine following.  I am working nights this weekend for the first time in ages so i was a little concerned leaving the pugs with my brother.  I knew Lilo would be missing me, but I guess they all slept with him last night so it worked out well.  I guess Tux woke them up with a yelp in the morning, i guess just changing position, but they went back to sleep after I got home from work. Lilo is such a good sleeper haha! She slept all night with my brother, then slept all day long with me! Good doggy! She is probably just catching up from the last couple of weeks being on the run from Tux.

Before I left for work tonight though, Tux was back at full tilt running behind her, (looking for trouble).  I think he’s a slow learner.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  Prayers for Romeo and Abby and any other puggies in need.

Lots of Love, Lilo n Me, n Tux

Gwen so happy to hear little Tux is doing so much better that is great news
Hope everyone had a wonderful christmas

Sue VDB

12/26/2011

Gwen, sounds like Tux is ok again, thank you St. Francis.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  Pug mama how is Abby doing?  I think about your baby and pray she is doing better.

This isn’t pug related, but Christmas Eve we exchange family gifts.  My grandson’s mother gave me a gift certificate to the local dinner theatre and the DVD of “The Help”.  The funny part is I gave her the exact same thing.  We have laughed so much over that.  We didn’t think of pictures at the time, but we are going to take a picture by the Christmas tree with our gifts. We’ll we laughing over that for years to come.

Romeo had another laser/acupunture Saturday.  I was concerned about him over Christmas because of company. He did well Christmas eve for about an hour, and got to be too rambunctions so I put him in a soft sided crate.  That worked for like 20 seconds.  I had no choice but to put him in the basement so he would be calm.  Yesterday he did better and he was able to be with usl all day…yay.

Hi all,

I have very sad news to share.  I had to let Miss Abby go to the rainbow bridge today.  She went badly downhill over the weekend, and there was nothing left for options with her short of miracles.  She was suffering terribly.  My heart is broken :(  I held her as the vet let her go, she is now at peace, no more breathing struggles, she has found her other pug friends at the rainbow bridge, and is her young goofy self again.

12/27/2011

Oh Pug Mama….I am so so sorry for you! What a terrible thing to have to do but you are an amazing and self-less Mama to do this. Oh God Bless you. I am so happy you were with her. I know she is so appreciative of what you did for her. Such a gift we can give them even though it hurts us. You are right, she is no longer struggling and is happy and at peace. I know for a fact that Pip was there to help her cross over. Please call me if you need to talk. 402-445-4240. I will be praying for you. I am so sorry.

Pug Mama, I was so afraid of this but it seemed it would be inevitable from your posts last week.  It doesn’t make it any easier.  You were brave to let her go because of her health issues.  And even knowing that doesn’t help your grief.  OBP grives with you.  I am just so sorry.

Sue VDB said it best…“concentrate on the sweet memories”.  Prayers and hugs to support you right now.

RIP sweet Abby.

I had a thought about sharing my address.  I don’t really want to do it publicly on here.  But if any of you are friends with Hellen Norton on facebook, I am too, my name is Jen Christensen, so if you search her friend list and find me, then friend me on there, then I could share it though a private message.

Pug Mama,
Over the past 26 years, I have lost 4 pugs due to cancer and old age and the only thing that made me feel better was to get another Pug.  Toby is 7 now and I honesly don’t know what I would do without him..He is my family.
Hopefully, you will find another pug to love soon.

Pug Mama,
I am so terribly saddened to hear Abby has crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. It is a difficult thing to do, but so giving of you to let her be well and healthy and i’m sure she is running and playing, breathing freely and her love is shining down on you. (I’m also sure she had a little Pug network waiting to greet her, just like we humans have here).

Sue is right, we are grieving with you.  I can’t believe how much i have come to care for all of you, and your darling little pugs here in our little network. This has definitely been a trying fall for all of us.  I hope that our arms, (and paws) wrapped around you bring you comfort.

Pug Mama
I am so so sorry about Abby. It is a terrible thing to loose a beloved pug. I understand exactly what you mean by the house being so quiet. Pugs, with their abundance of personality, talk all the time. Saying we miss them feels like a supreme understatement. I honestly thought my heart was broken when my Lola-Bug had to leave. A book that was helpful was Saying Goodbye to Your Angel Animals. It also helped very much that everyone here was so kind. Hang in there Jen. Consider sharing your life with another pug (when you’re ready). Perhaps a rescue? Abby would be proud. You may not see her, but I know she sees you and does not want you to cry.—All My Love, Kelly & Grace & Edward Pug
