Maggie Valley, NC

Benjamin, Henry and Luna in Maggie Valley NC

For safety sake, I could not announce before we left, but now that we are home safely, I can share that we recently went on our first vacation in several years! We rented a place called The Tree House in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. With pugs in tow, we made the 9(ish) hour drive and sadly left Cupid home alone. (I don't mean that she was neglected! Yikes!) She was well tended to by her Grammy, of course.

More stories and photos to come next week. We just got home and I feel like I need a vacation from my vacation! So this is the best I could do! More later!

That looks like that had to be a really special spot.  So beautiful.  And I’m glad to see the pugs enjoying their vacation even if only in their chairs.  Lazy pugs.

I have mentioned before about what a patient soul Georgie is when it comes to him being on the wrong side of a closed door.  Another indication of his patience has shown itself.

For whatever reason, Georgie is no longer able to get in bed without assistance.  At the end of the bed, I have a set of doggie stairs next to a large storage tote and another set of doggie stairs from the tote up the rest of the way to the bed.  It was always somewhat of a struggle for him to get up the second set onto the bed, but lately he hasn’t been able to do it at all and so I have lifted him up.  However, in the middle of the night, he gets down (for a drink, potty, whatever) and cannot get back up until I wake up and realize he needs assistance.  Oh, he isn’t noisy about needing help, in fact, he never makes a sound.  He just lays on top of the tote at the bottom of the second stairs and waits.  He could possibly be there all night without a word, just waiting.  A true “Ferdinand the Bull.”  Like Ferdinand, he is just so grateful…grateful for attention…grateful to just be.  He looks at you out of the top of his eyes and love just flows over you, love and devotion just emanating from his eyes and soul.  And patience to wait for the door to open or to be helped back into bed.

Everyone have a great weekend and do something special.  We may have to do another round of baths (did it 2 weeks ago), but they are leaking fur like mad…at least the black ones are.  The sheets on my bed have a layer of black.

And speaking of grateful, I am so glad OBP is back up…serious withdrawal issues when it isn’t.

Great picture! Looks beautiful!

Huckle that is so sweet. I thought you were going to say that his eyes just staring at you woke you so you could lift him on the bed! Love the pugs!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I love the picture! I have a couple of good ones from our summer trip, Lilo in my chair, Lilo in Grumpma’s chaise lounge.

Huckle, do tell how you ever got Georgie to use the doggy stairs.  I have a set in my bedroom that i have finally moved away because the only thing they are good for is tripping over. Lilo is just flat out is scared of them.  She couldn’t get up on my old bed, and now my new one is way higher. She was the only thing i lifted over my physio weight restrictions this summer.  If the princess gets out of bed before i do (which doesn’t happen often, she’s a good sleeper like me), she stands up on her back legs and again paws/scratches at my mattress until i lift her back up.

I must say I do love that “pug love look”.  I got it this morning and it was almost the difference between going to work and crawling back into bed for more snuggles.  I again tried to capture the look, but being black she just blended into the blanket and you could barely see her, and with the flash….... glowing eyes.

Huckle, do you have a furminator? I absolutely love mine and turned our pug group onto them and most of them love it too.  I find once or twice a week and Lilo’s shedding cut down so much.  Except when i wear white, then of course it’s like she instantly blows coat!  Some girls up here actually get their pugs coats shaved down to help with the shedding.  I had never heard of it before, but don’t think i’m that desperate.  I bought a pug, now i accessorize around her. My clothing, my furniture….lol!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Love and pug to all!!

Gwen, good for you accessorizing around Lilo, and not shaving her.  Their coats are their protection, both winter and summer.  You either deal with it or you don’t have a pug. I much prefer to deal with it.

Gwen, I admit I don’t know for sure (memory issues) but with Abby I think I used treats on each step and the black ones followed Abby when they got here.  Gracie had no problem, she could jump on my bed from a stool I have by the bed because it is so big even for me. Georgie had a harder time because of some neurological issue and I do remember just helping him with my hand on his bottom and since he trusted me he was willing to go up the stairs.  And then he tried it on his own with a lot of cheering of each step. And with Abby and Gracie already on the bed, he wanted to be with them.  It’s the last step up where he hesitates.  Perhaps it is a height thing with Lilo?

Yes, I do have a furminator (actually 3) and the one I like best is a cat furminator.  I guess it would be best if I were a little more diligent with it.  Have you noticed that when you pull the old hair off, it rather makes something that looks like a caterpillar.

Thank you all for mentioning and liking Georgie’s story.
