Patchy

Henry's patchy fur

It is difficult to see in the photograph, but Henry has some patchy fur loss on his left side.  One of the spots has been thinning ever so gradually for awhile, but over the weekend, a few more patches seemed to pop up overnight.  So, I made an appointment with the vet for tomorrow to go in and see what is going on.  The spots don’t seem to bother him and he doesn’t scratch them.  The skin in that area does not appear to be irritated and he doesn’t mind if you touch/pet where the spots are.

It will be interesting to see what the vet has to say.

To make it easier to see, I have highlighted the spots below.  There are two other patchy spots, but they are on the smaller side and you can’t make them out in the picture.

I wouodn’t have a clue as to what is going on with Henry.  Whatever it is I pray it is nothing serious and that some topical ointment or medication can be applied and clear it up.  Of course thoughts and prayers will be with sweet Henry.

Oh My, interesting spots indeed.
I do hope that it isn’t anything serious and will clear up soon.
(amazingly similiar to crop circles that popped up in England??  mmm very interesting)

Henry, we are thinking of you and hoping and praying that those spots are nothing to worry about!  Maybe just puggie beauty marks since you are such a handsome devil??

I hope it’s nothing to be too worried about - we are thinking of you Henry!!

Pat, I was thinking crop circles too!
Seriously though, I certainly hope it is nothing serious.  Maybe just a mild skin irration.  Please let us know the outcome.

Hoping it’s nothing serious here too.  Molly has some spots on her too.  They don’t look quite like this but it’ll be interesting to hear what the vet says.  Molly’s spots first appeared when we had to give her allergy shots…...which we have discontinued since they made her sick every time!  I’ll be thinking about the handsome Henry!  Give him a hug from me!

Could be a fungus. Hopefully all he will need is a cream..hope it is nothing else..we will be rooting for him..they are so cute!

Hope it’s not a serious thing, but be sure to let us know what the vet says.  We’ve had some skin/fur issues, but nothing that looked like that.

Back to yesterday, did your gang get their pumpkin bread last night?

C.J. had demodectic mange for a while and after treatment his hair came back.  We are on our way to the vet this am also.  I think C.J. has broken his other wrist.  There is a huge lump on it.  I’m hoping for a cyst but I’m not thinkin’ so!

Wow, great minds think alike.  I was also thinking crop circles.  lol Seriously, though, how odd that they are all circular.  I’m glad that they don’t bother him, but hope that whatever it is can be cleared up quickly and easily.

Karen, prayers goin’ up for C.J. as well.

Speaking of pumpkin bread, does anyone know if Dunkin’ Donuts has started with their pumpkin muffins yet?  I gotta find that recipe I lost.

Looks like demodex.  Dory went through a bout last summer.  Pugs get all the fun ailments!  Good luck with your vet appointment.

Good luck! Hope it’s nothing serious!!

Thanks, Carla!  I love this blog cuz I know you all love puggies as much as I do and you’ll understand.  I’m starting to think of C.J. as a “Rescue” because of all of his severe medical problems.  Going to talk to the vet about that too.  Maybe he was a puppy mill victim?

Karen B, please let us know the results of CJ’s vet visit.  You know we all care.

I have seen this on my guys and it just goes away - possibly a change of the season uneven shed. Especially since it isn’t effecting his demeanor and he isn’t scratching it..
I am interested to see what you vet has to say too - please let us know!

I found this great site with skin ailments in dogs..Maybe Henry has:
Alopecia areata -Thought to be an autoimmune disorder -Patches of hair loss especially on head, neck, and body; no itching
Microscopic examination of hairs; biopsy
Usually recover spontaneously
Here’s the site:

Sue, thanks for caring.I just got back and they’re keeping him for the morning.  Going to do x-rays, and possibly, if it’s not bony, an aspiration for cells and see what it looks like under the microscope.  So possible fracture vs. tumor (again)!  The vet was alarmed that his wrist was so swollen.  Of course, my evil husband wants me to put him down and not spend any more money on him, but I’d just as soon put my husband down and keep C.J.!  At least, his love is unconditional AND he never complains or yells!  Pugs rule!

Karen, I hate to hear that about CJ.  Did he jump off something?  I worry about that with Sleighbelle too, since next month she will be 10.  Good luck at the vet and I hope all is ok.  Let us know.

Yes, Pugs Rule!  Please keep us posted while prayers go up to St. Francis.

To Karen:  My husband knows better than to suggest such a thing! He has often said I would get rid of him first if I had to chose between Mr. Skittles or him!!  lol
Hope C.J.‘s vet appointment goes ok.
Thinking of all, Henry & C.J. especially!!

Oh no Karen…I hope and pray that it is not a tumor!!!  I hope it’s nothing at all, but sounds like it’s something…so I hope it’s the lesser of two evils…

As for your husband…well, if I had a husband with that outlook he would be put down or very quickly become an EX husband…No offense meant at all, but yuck!

I will be praying!  Please let us know the outcome!

Just heard from the vet…She believes it is a cyst like he had on the other wrist and that that is probably what weakened the wrist that he broke!  She said it’s probably a genetic thing.  We will need to watch it for a couple weeks and maybe have it removed then.  No fracture but he has to have limited exercise so that he doesn’t fracture it!  With C.J. that’s asking a lot cuz he’s my little whirling dirvish!  I was worried that he’d jumped off of the dining room table onto the tile floor and broken the wrist.  (That’s where he waits when we go out. He sits on the table and stares at the door waiting for us to come back!)  He’s so silly…Anyway, the chairs will be moved away from the table and he’ll have to stay on the floor instead of trying to fly!  Thanks all for the well wishes!  I knew I could count on you all for support cuz my hubby is obviously no comfort…LOL!

How about Mr. Henry?  Did you get an answer, OBP?

Linda

I just had a terrible thought,  what if Henry is allergic to pumpkin bread :-O

Karen, dont listen to your husband, there are things more important than money.

Karen B,
Thanks for the update, and as Linda said, “there are things more important than money”, and C.J. certainly is. I know you will do whatever is necessary for little C.J.  I feel for you trying to keep him from being a “whirling dirvish”.  I will keep him in prayer, and please keep us updated on him.  Give him hugs and kisses from me, please.

Ringworm.  That is the first thing I thought of when I saw the “crop circles” LOL.

It is a fungal thing, not really worms.  Hope everything turns out okay!

Corrine - OBP

My first thought was ringworm, too.  But I think ringworm is very contagious.  So far, no one else is showing the same symptoms.  We will see how things turn out this afternoon.  Thank you everyone for the well wishes!  Best of luck to you too CJ and Karen.

Karen B

09/25/2008

See?  I feel better already just having shared with all of my OBP friends!  C.J. and I thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers and especially for your support!  You are all awesome!  (And don’t worry, hubby won’t win this one or any other when it comes to my pugs! This mama bites! LOL!)

Kim

It looks like ringworm to me as well.  My terrior had it on her stomach and pinky toe one time.  The lyme baths are lot of fun for everyone, let me tell you.  Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.

Heather

Karen, I’m so happy to hear CJ is holding his own and that they don’t think it’s a tumor!  I had an amazingling awful day and had no internet until now (10:30 pm) and I kept thinking of CJ and Henry and wondering if there was good news.  The first thing I asked my exhubby (we’re still very close friends and he had our boys for a few days this week so I saw him tonight) was if he had checked the blog today (He’s an avid reader of OBP too) and if there were updates.  LOL Please keep us posted…Prayers will still be coming for CJ and Henry and all of the OBP family!!!

Karen B

09/26/2008

Heather, thank you!  I think C.J.‘s little “bony cyst” is getting larger and it may yet have to be removed but we’re still watching it.  He isn’t really limping on it but he hesitates to jump and he doesn’t want anyone to touch his wrist so I think he is having pain…so hard to tell since they can’t tell you what’s wrong or if they hurt!  Anyway, will keep you posted.  Hoping this thing resolves on it’s own…

On a brighter note, it’s Friday!  Everyone have a fantastic weekend!  Hail Pugs~!
