Raffle to benefit Pug Rescue

Ever since we have adopted Luna from Compassionate Pug Rescue, I have kept up to date with the happenings at CPR. Just like in years past, CPR has nursed a lot of pugs back to health. However, getting the pugs all their needed medical attention does not come cheap. Medical costs continue to mount and as I make updates to the CPR website I often think, "Geez, I really need to win the lottery so I can really help out!"

Over the last few weeks I have been thinking a lot about rescue and had a couple of realizations. Sure, one person can make a large donation, but that is not the only way things can get done. A few dollars here and there can really add up. Great things really happen when people unite to work towards the same goal.

So I came up with an idea that I thought would be fun. A good, old fashion raffle with all the proceeds benefiting pug rescue. If each reader of the Pug Blog purchased a raffle ticket ($5 / ticket, $13 for 3 tickets) we could raise a nice amount for rescue. Plus, there are some great prizes up for grabs.

I am always very hesitant to make donation pleas on the blog. I don't want readers to feel as though I am simply writing to ask for their money. The economy is tough right now and I know we are all feeling the effects, especially the pugs in rescue. I thought I would do one raffle and get your thoughts on the raffle idea. Would you be interested in participating in future raffles to benefit other pug rescue organizations? If yes, how often should we hold the raffles? What prizes would you like to win? Please share your thoughts.

Without further ado, here are the details for the very first OBP Pug Rescue Raffle. All raffle ticket purchases will benefit Compassionate Pug Rescue. Information on the prizes up for grabs as well as how to purchase tickets is below. If you can, please help spread the word.

How to buy a raffle ticket

Ticket cost:

  • $5 per raffle ticket
  • $13 for 3 raffle tickets
  1. Make a donation via PayPal to Compassionate Pug Rescue for the number of raffle tickets you would like to purchase (ie $5 for 1 ticket, $10 for 2 tickets, $13 for 3 tickets, etc). A PayPal account is not required to donate. See below for instructions on how to enter without having a PayPal account. It would also be helpful to CPR if you entered a small note that said "OBP Raffle" in the special instructions to seller on the donation page (under the "Donation to Compassionate Pug Rescue after you have updated your totals). It isn't required to participate, but would be helpful for them.
  2. Forward your donation receipt to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We will send you a confirmation e-mail letting you know we received your submission and will include your raffle ticket number in the e-mail. If you do not receive your confirmation e-mail from us within 48 hours please let us know.

Drawing the winner

  • One grand prize winner and one runner up will be drawn on July 31, 2008 during the evening hours.
  • The winners will be notified via e-mail and will be identified by first name only on the Pug Blog. When we contact you will we get your mailing address as well as any size and color choices for prizes.

How the winner will be drawn

Each e-mail entry we receive will be assigned a raffle number. We will input all raffle ticket numbers into Random.org's List Randomizer. The List Randomizer will randomly order the raffle ticket numbers entered. The first number on the list will be the Grand Prize winner and the second number on the list will be the Runner Up. We will then find the e-mail address that matches the raffle ticket number and contact the winners. For your privacy, only raffle ticket numbers will be input into the List Generator. Your e-mail address will not be used.

Wonderful idea!!!!!  Count me in.  Would every three months be a good time to repeat the raffle?

We donated!  Love the idea!  I hope you get lots of entries and are able to raise lots of $$$ for them.

I got my tickets!  And I want that pawtographed photo of my favorite media stars!  Priceless!  The raffle is a wonderful idea…no cost or effort to the rescue and every single dollar donated is a blessing these days, with adoptions slacking off and rescues up to their eyeballs in pugs needing homes (and expensive medical care).  Thank you all!

I’m in, too!  I only have one “complaint” OBP.  I didn’t get my daily fix of OBP cuteness.  You should have taken advantage of Luna’s adorable mug and posted a pic of her lol.

Seriously, though, I do have one other problem.  If I win, how in the world will I pick my favorite pic???  I’d better start now, just in case wink

Marvelous idea - thanks for thinking of it.  I have already submitted my donation.  I think Sheryl’s idea of every 3 months is great, and if not possible twice a year.  Go Pugs!

I’m in too!  I think rescue clubs are so important.  I think OBP will have to post pics and let the winner (ME!) select their fav.

Great idea! I agree with Sheryl, a quarterly raffle would be perfect. I too hope you raise lots of money. Thank you for taking the initiative.

What a GREAT idea! My husband and I adopted our second pug from Compassionate Pug Rescue. We just love our Rosie to death and we would do anything for the rescue. I also agree that every three month would be great. And I hope that people are willing to donate items for the raffle, I will certainly do my part to help these little puggies in need!

How about raffling off “Lunch with Benny, Henry and Luna” for your next event?  I know celebrities don’t usually mix with the hoi polloi, but perhaps our favorite media stars would make an exception if food were involved!

We could raffle off lunch with Benjamin, Henry & Luna.  But, I must warn you,  they would wan to hold a raffle at least 3 times a day grin

A great idea for a great cause!

And I guess by now you know that your readers feel a bit let-down if we don’t get to see a new picture of your sweet little trio every day!

I would love a lunch with the 3 Muskateers!

I just Pay Pal-ed for three tickets.  Anything, anytime for precious Pugs!  I think this is a fabulous idea.  I hope you’ll come up with more.  Here in Southern California we have Little Angels Pug Rescue, which is also a cause worth looking into.  Every year Rocky and Adrian attend the Halloween Howl and the Great American Pug-Out, both sponsored by LAPR and both tons of fun!

I contribute to a rescue here in so. cal. (Pugs and Pals) they do some neat fund raisers (Texas hold em games / Selling See’s Candies (which has a program especially for fund raising) and also a handcrafts site that contributes 10% of each purchase).
