Talk Amongst Yourselves

From time to time the pugs have a little fireside chat amongst themselves. Benny didn't go full howl on this one, but you can hear a little bit of his patented howl. And the pug with the menacing growl heard in the background. Well, that's Luna.

LOL, so cute!  That sounds like our house.  Minnie and Mack have gotten into the habit of singing when a favorite human is entering!

Drools and licks,

What say you, Ben and Luna?  I don’t speak dog, and my deaf Abby here has no input.  Was there another doggie in the neighborhood?  Was Henry getting extra attention/treat/snuggles that you weren’t?  Was the neighborhood kitty passing by?  Did the mailman just come?  You puggies are a puzzlement, but you sure have a lot to say!

Abby and I are headed to the vet today.  Her coughing is worsening, and when she isn’t coughing, her breathing is very labored.  Please pray that this isn’t anything bad, I am getting scared that her trachea can’t take much more of this :(

How delightful this was!  I don’t think I knew Ben was a howler; oh how I love it, cutie boy!

Gina:  I’m so happy Pip is back home where he belongs.  He was very much loved by all that met him and by all of us who never had the chance, but came to love him through your stories.  Still thinking of you non-stop and praying for comforting memories.

Pug Mama:  I am so sorry to hear about Abby’s coughing and breathing issues.  Prayers are going up that they can get to the root of the problem ASAP and get her some relief.

Sue VDB:  Hope Romeo is still feeling 100%...and perhaps still tolerating lovin’!

Oh so funny…and Miss Luna just cracks me up.  My household sounds similar, except it is all barking…loud and frequent.

Gina, I know how hard it was for you to pick up Pip’s ashes, but it is also comforting to have him back home.

Pug Mama, please give us informed of Abby.  She is in my prayers.

Heather, yes, he is still 100%, and yes he is still more loving, but not quite as much…but still I will take whatever I can.

Before I became a pug parent, I had a little Lhasa Apso named Molly who took her heritage as a Tibetan guard dog quite seriously.  (My son, who was a teen at the time, thought I had her trained to alert me when he would come home past curfew and resented her for it.)  My chubby black pug, Bella, on the other hand, has always been silent as a sphinx - not alot of expression when you first come through the door - which I used to take more personally - like:  “Hey!  Aren’t you glad to see me?”  Now, I’m always pleasantly surprised when she comes to greet me at the back door, wagging her tail.  But she doesn’t talk.  She didn’t even bark until she was nearly 3 yrs. old.  And most times, still, she sounds like an old percolator coffee pot just starting to perk.  While I wouldn’t trade her for anything, I do miss hearing some “woo-woo-woo’s” now and then.  Enjoyed this morning’s tete-a-tete from Ben & Luna!

PUG MAMA:  ABBY and yourself will be in my thoughts today, for sure.  Just hate to hear and have doggies who aren’t feeling well - so will pray for some speedy relief for her.

GINA:  I have my Molly’s ashes atop my bedroom dresser - it has a little Lhasa Apso on top with her name on the wooden box.  I was heart-broken when I felt I had lost her - but having her ashes nearby gave me such alot of comfort and I’ve kept all the cards I received when she died underneath.  I hope having PIP back home with you eases your sadness as well.

SUE VDB:  BELLA sounds like ROMEO as she is not an overly affectionate dog.  I know that she loves me - even more than her sweet potato/duck treats - but she’s just not one given to kisses, etc.  So it’s always a thrill for me to have nuzzle my hair and face when she sits with me in “our” big chair.  I would LOVE to get inside her pug-brain sometimes, though, to know exactly what’s she’s thinking.

Gotta go back and listen to La Luna & Benny once again.  Love that doggy-chatter.

Benny seems to have several chins going for him (sorry), but I can barely hear him.  When Benny gets to full throttle, mine are already there.  They just know I’ve hidden a pug somewhere in the computer room.

OK, sue, just before the Santa picture are the Sunbathers (Gracie & Georgie), Cooper & Georgie, and my curmudgeon Abby.

Pug mama, I share your fear which is why I whisk Georgie off to the vet the minute his coughing starts.  The people at the vet’s office probably just roll their eyes and shake their heads, but it’s just something I just have to know. Is Abby on antibiotics (still don’t understand why that helps) and cough syrup?  The antibiotic cleared his coughing within half a day.  The other pill he’d never been off of so that wasn’t the helper that I can see.

I guess the main thing is to cross our finers and appeal to St. Francis (no, I’m not being facitious).

Thinking of you today especially Gina as you bring Pip home. Our sadness is our happiness.

Pug hugs,
Huckle &

I love how Benny yawns in the middle of the conversation.  He’s said his piece, he is NOT changing his mind on the topic and the subject is closed.  Move along.  So like a man!!!  Even a cute, smoochy faced one!!

I loved loved LOVED the video. Love Benny’s almost howling and ferocious Luna in the background. What were they ‘talking’ about? Whatever it was, it was wonderful to hear!

Pug Mama ~ Saying prayers for Abby as we speak. Please keep us posted. God Bless!

Sue VDB ~ So glad Romeo is feeling better. Keeping both of you in my prayers!

Mary ~ Love how your other dog kept an eye on your son! So funny. And so cute that Bella only sounds like a percolator. I can just imagine.

Huckle ~ I love it. Your babies think you have a pug hidden in the computer room! Makes me laugh! And I can’t wait to go look at the pics to see your babies!

And thank you everyone. I am glad Pip is home. I had an interesting conversation with the vet about everything and it made me sad yet I know I did the best thing for him. At night I put him on my bedside table with his beloved toy ‘piggy pig’ on top of his box and then in the day, I have him in the kitchen b/c that is where he would be. Strangely I find comfort in that.

Hugs to you all!!!

Mary, I understand about the “not being a lover” situation.  Bo Peep, who was the little black pug before him was full of love, always near, always responsive to every word said to her; however, Romeo is still a sweetie even if he is not a “true” Romeo.
He does have his moments, and I soak those up.

Sue States ~ that is so sweet she is with her cousin. When I go, my hubby and sister know that they need to put Pip and my cat (from when I was growing up) in with me. The catholic church is a little weird about that so they will sneak them in the casket. We did that with my Mom. She had three urns tucked in by her legs (where the dogs slept anyway) and the priest wasn’t the wiser. Is that bad?

I’m catholic and believe that Pip is in heaven with my Mom so I hope I didn’t offend anyone.

But here is kind of a funny story. It should make you smile anyway….my sister Dina is 41 and works at our church. She is the secretary and has worked there forever. The pastor at our church doesn’t believe that dogs have souls. I know!!!! Obviously not a dog person! whatever! So he doesn’t believe that dogs go to heaven. Well, yesterday Sophie, my 3 year old and I were up at the church to take Dina to lunch. The pastor saw us and came out and said, “I hear you had some sad things happen at your house this weekend. I’m sorry for your loss.” I told him thank you and Dina then asked Sophie, right in front of the pastor, to tease him of course all in good fun….“Sophie, tell Fr. Harry where Pippy is.” And Sophie of course said, “Heaven.” And Fr. Harry kind of smiled and rolled his eyes and Dina said, “When you are three, you can believe that dogs go to heaven.” And I piped in and said, “When you’re 40 (I’m 40) you can believe that dogs go to heaven!” And he was smiling and it was all in good fun. He looked at me and I said, “Pip is with my Mom.” (she passed away 8 years ago and LOVED dogs.)  And he smiled and I said, “Fr. Harry, you are going to be soooo surprised when you get to heaven and dogs are there.” And he laughed and said he would be surprised.

I thought you all would appreciate that! I stood up for our beloved fur babies!!!!

Sorry that was so long!

Hugs to you all!

RIGHT ON, GINA!  Why would there be a Saint designated for the care and well-being of animals?  Fr. Harry needs to rent the video:  ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN.
I love all animals and firmly believe that they ALL go to Heaven as I can’t imagine being in a Heaven without them.
I’m no theologian, but heart = soul in my book.  Just watch or read THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY, LASSIE or WAR HORSE just to name a few.  Their courage, loyalty and lack of deceipt or spite surely earns them after-homes behind the gates of Heaven.  (Done preaching now, I am.)

Gina

Sue & Mary ~ I know for a fact that my Mom has him. I know she does! And good point Mary. Why would there be a Saint to help the animals!!! And someone once gave Fr. Harry that video All Dogs Go To Heaven as a joke. I just don’t understand it. I really don’t. God made all creatures. Why wouldn’t they get to go to heaven? And I’m the same way, if my dogs and cat aren’t in heaven, then I don’t want to go. I couldn’t have said this any better than both of you!!! ROAR!!! We are pug Mamas HERE US ROAR!!  smile

Just now getting home since 9:30 this morning.  I followed each of the blogs.

Gina, there is nothing strange about you moving Pip’s ashes from the bedroom to the kitchen, and finding comfort in that.  I think we all understand.

Gina, I too am Catholic.  I do believe that animals are in heaven.  I agree that if God made all living things why wouldn’t they go to heaven.  I don’t believe they have souls because they don’t do anything wrong like we humans.  I have a Canadian friend who always says “the doggies are perfect, it’s the humans who need work”, and that is so true. We humans have to continually work to be with God, animals don’t, thus the human soul.

Bo Peep has been with me since her death in January, 2002.  My husband died in 2000.  His body was donated to science, and when his ashes were returned, I just hung on to them. They were next to Bo Peeo’s with a vase of tulips, Georg’s favorite flower.  Last year in October, I decided he really needed to be buried, so I contacted Fr. Kent and the cemetery.  There was a graveside service for him at the niche (I know there is another name, but it escapes me at the time).  I opened up his ashes and Bo Peep’s ashes and put them in with George.  Now, Bo Peep was equally devoted to both of us, but because her daddy is no longer here, I decided they would be good company for each other, and I think neither God nor St. Francis has a problem with that, regardless of what a priest might think.

Thats an interesting way of looking at why they don’t have a soul Sue VDB. I never thought of it that way. smile I like how you said ‘neither God nor St. Francis has a problem with that, regardless of what a priest might think.’ I agree! smile

Well as a pastor I can’t help but know our fur babies are in heaven waiting on us. Just as God gives us un-conditional love, so do our beloved pets-they had to get from somewhere-who better to provide that than God. My plan is to have Daisey & Solsie with me when I get to go to the Rainbow Bridge. There we can join up with Buttons and cross over into God’s beautiful Heaven together. Hope this brings comfort, after all, a pastor should be able to give comfort. Peace & Blessings, & pug hugs to all from the Colorado 3 & Pastor Sue

Wonderfully put all of you! I too am Catholic, and I too believe all dogs go to heaven.

Another lady from our pug group here in Saskatchewan lost their dear Gizzy the other day.  She had only one front leg for the last 6yrs and somehow ended up breaking it, so they too had to let her go as they knew she had been growing tired before this even happened.

Someone from our pug group there shared this and I had to pass it on.

To make Heaven the perfect resting place,
for loved ones we adore,
God made sure those Pearly Gates,
contained a doggy door.

Been very busy around here with the new addition of Tux.  Lilo is appropriately unimpressed, as he keeps trying to nurse from her lol.  He must have thought he won the jackpot and got his own set of taps!

Gina, i’m with you, if there are no dogs in heaven I don’t want to go either.  I guess we’ll all just be stuck in Puggy Purgatory, and that I think I can handle! smile

Prayers for Dear Abby, and that all the others stay well.

Pug hugs to all from Lilo N me + one
