The Most Nervous One

Benjamin and Henry

Last Friday, when all four pugs made their way to the eye vet, Benjamin was the most nervous of the bunch. Benjamin, the only pug that did not have an appointment.

He was fine in the car, but when we arrived at the office he was on high alert. Smelling this & that & sticking his nose where it didn't belong. He even made sure he was the first one of the group to get weighed. Because if anything bad happened he wanted them to have his accurate weight!

When we went into the exam room, he immediately found the treat jar. Knowing that there were treats in the room that he had not yet tasted kept him busy for a while. Once the eye vet came in, he was first to greet her and made sure that she knew he was Benny & that he was fine.

The girls were first up and Benjamin paid no attention to them. Instead he was focused on those tasty treats in the jar out of his reach. Then it was Henry's turn & that is when Benny practically fell apart. He paced and whined & eventually jumped up on the chairs and paced & whined. "Why are you looking at my brother? What's wrong with Henry? Nothing's wrong with Henry. Henry you're fine, right? HENRY! HENRY!"

The eye vet & the vet tech even commented on how connected the boys were. That is when I took the time to explain the unhealthy dependence the boys have. Well, let me rephrase, the unhealthy dependence Benjamin has on Henry.

Without, Henry for an extended period of time, Benny will fret & worry himself to death. The same goes when Henry is hurt. When Henry had his knee surgery, Benjamin was a mess. He almost took it harder than Henry.

When Benny had to stay at the vet for an overnight many years ago, while Henry missed him, he was no worse for the wear. In fact, he had himself a grand 'ole day. He went to the pet store, grabbed some lunch at an outdoor eating spot. He was loving life.

Ultimately, Benny is just a big softie. He needs his Henry.

Aww, Baby Benny.  You truly love your brother don’t you sweetheart.  I can’t even beging to imagine what you would have done if you had been left home alone.  BTW did you finally get one of those treats from the treat jar?

Even with our (IOWA) last 2 days of sunshine - all this snow has finally been making me glum.  This posting started my day and I’m STILL smiling thinking of Ben & Henry.  What a great start to the day!! Many thanks!

Awwwww, that is just too cute!  We want to get another puppy so Molly has someone to spend her days with….Molly is almost 3 1/2….anyone have any thoughts?  Will this work out okay?  Molly is like a crabby gramma with other dogs…she puts them in her place.  But I’m wondering if it would be different with another pug…..any thoughts?

Awww.  That’s so sweet.  Rocky and Adrian are joined at the hip also.  When Rocky had some minor surgery and had to spend the night at the vet’s, Adrian just fell apart…she wouldn’t eat (well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration - she is a pug after all!), she wouldn’t bathe, wouldn’t brush her fur, stayed in her pajamas, and just sat on the sofa and watched reruns of Milo and Otis all day!

Cindy, my Romeo lives with two other dogs that are not pugs.  He gets along with them, but he doesn’t necessarily like other dogs; however, whenever we go to a pug meetup he is in seventh heaven and greets every other pug in the place.  Molly would probably love to have another pug companion.  If you are considering another pug take Molly along and make sure they are compatable.

Eeeeee, I just love that Benjamin! He’s so sweet, it just KILLS me. My two are quite like that now too, and we’ve only had our second pug for a year. If we pick either one of them up for nail clipping, ear cleaning, etc., the other is sitting or pacing directly below us, whining and pawing. Put my brother/sister DOWN! Too cute. smile

Cindy, in my experience, pugs *know* pugs…You may want to take her to some pug meet ups and see if she warms up to the idea…She’s a little young to be an old crank!  LoL

Max and Ruby are like that as well, but more because they are worried that the other might be getting TREATS or something and don’t want to be left out LOL.

The thought of the pup without an appointment getting on the scale first makes me laugh!
