Watering Hole

Benjamin, Henry & Luna

Benjamin loves to chew and when he chews for hours on end in the evenings he naturally gets thirsty.  During a normal chewing session, he makes a couple of trips to the water bowl and it isn’t uncommon for him to come close to emptying the pugs’ huge water bowl.  But while he empties the water bowl, I would be surprised if he actually drinks more than a few tablespoons of water.  We have labeled him the most inefficient canine drinker because he somehow always ends up soaking his chin and that cute little bit of extra skin under his neck with water.

I always thought he just dipped his chin in the water while he was drinking, but this super slow motion video of a dog drinking may shed a little bit of light on the subject.  In any case, I found this video of how a dog drinks very fascinating.

That video is very interesting and solves the mystery of why Baby Benny’s chin gets wet.  Thanks for that Corrine, and another adorable picture of your 3 sweeties.

That video was very interesting, I had no idea thats how dogs drank. And my pug gets the same thing when she drinks, her chin is dripping! We just call it the sponge smile

How cool was that!  I just always thought they scooped it in on top of their tongue.

Since our guys often like to get a drink during the night, or while we are all in the bed watching tv, we attached a bottle waterer (like you put on hampter cages) to the “fence” we have surrounding the bottom of the bed.  This way they don’t have to get down and run over to the bowl in the corner of the room.  We wouldn’t want them to have to excert any effort, right? lol Geez, they are so spoiled.

Wow, that’s so interesting! I had no idea thats how dogs drank water! I thought they would cur their tongues the other way. Cool!

Sleighbelle is always dripping after a drink too.  I just assumed it was cause of the short muzzle.  And with Sleighbelle, after she has had her fill of water, that is when she is the most loving and wants to give the most sugars…then I end up about as wet as she is…but of course it’s ok with me!

lol Nevis.  You and I must have been thinking/writing at the same time.

It makes sense if you think about it though!  Otherwise, I’d imagine, the water would go up their nose!!  Very interesting!

oo Baby benny - my benee does the same thing (his tongue is off to one side so he gets it all over the place!)

I just love these three!
When will we know more about the calendar contest and when will we be able to buy them?

Ruby was like that too.  Then I changed to a glass bowl with no rim on the edge.  And you know what?  A tiny little drop of water on her chin is all she ends up with now!  I wonder if you changed to a rimless water bowl to do a test, how it would turn out for him?
