First Nap of the Day

Benjamin

This was the sight early Saturday morning shortly after Benny had breakfast and went potty. Luna and Benjamin are notorious early risers for breakfast. Given the fact that there are no morning persons in this household, no one is every happy when either Benjamin or Luna start to whine for breakfast.

But, I can totally see why Luna and Benny don't mind getting up early for breakfast. They eat, the go potty and usually they are fast asleep within 20 minutes. I wouldn't mind getting up early either if I knew I was going to be able to go back to sleep about 20 minutes later.

Sit Luna, Sit

I wish I had a camera trained on the Benjamin, Henry & Luna at all times, because they do a lot of things that crack me up that I would love to have a video of so I could share with everyone.

The other day, I was sitting on the floor with the pugs with a bag of kibble doing some treat training. The pugs are old hats at this and know that I follow the same pattern. The order the pugs sit down determines where they are in the treat line. I go left to right and on this day, Benny was on the left, Luna was in the middle and Henry was on the right.

I'd give Benny a command and he would do it and get a treat. Then it would be Luna's turn. Once she did what I asked she would get a treat and I would move on to Henry.

The boys have to work for their treats a lot more than Luna. I rotate through sit, down, give me 5 and leave it with them. Luna's command is the same every time. Sit. If I'm feeling patient we will work on down, but "sit" is really the only thing that Luna knows. Knowing that she only has to do one thing to earn a treat, you would think that Luna would just sit the entire time and collect her treats. However, she is a excited wiggly mess during treat training. I tell her to "sit", she eventually gets around to sitting and as soon as the kibble touches her tongue her butt has bounced up off the floor.

After a few rounds of treat training, Henry was growing impatient being after Luna. I told Luna to sit and she was wiggling around. I told her to sit again and she was still wiggling around. Finally, Henry had enough and took his paw and smacked her straight in the face. It was his give me 5 paw, but it was like he was telling Luna, snap out of it girl and sit so I can get my turn!

Flashback Friday

You would never know it in Florida, but Fall is just around the corner and the pugs love Fall because it means it is pumpkin bread season. Today's flashback is Benjamin, Henry & Luna's ode to pumpkin bread.

Sol also loved pumpkin bread. Here is a shot from September 2009. Solsey thought she could get the bread from underneath the glass table.

Technically not a Dog Bed

Cupid

I had a moment of weakness a few weeks ago and broke down and bought another dog bed. The justification behind this bed is that it is unlike any of the other beds we already have. It is raised and much firmer and I thought it might be kinder on the pugs' aging bones.

However, from the moment we assembled it, the cat has claimed it. She loves to lay on top of the bed and you can frequently find her sleeping underneath the bed.

And since the cat has taken ownership of the bed it is technically a cat bed and not a dog bed. wink

Creature of Habit

Benjamin

To ensure the safety of puffy and to make sure that Benjamin has access to puffy while we are away, we keep puffy in Ben's crate. That's not to say he doesn't fish it out of the crate and take it to various parts of the house. However, whenever we see puffy laying about we toss it back in Benny's crate for safe keeping. This also helps Benny. Whenever he is looking for puffy, he checks his crate first.

Every night after Benny finished his dinner, he goes outside through the doggie doors, and goes potty. When he comes back into the house, he gets his puff and and brings it to us in the living room. At that moment he is so content. He has a full belly, an empty bladder and is ready to settle down for the night.
