Once upon a time there lived a pugletta of beautiful black, velvety fur and silken ears by the name of Sorella.  Sorella was a beautiful pugletta and although she knew it, she did not let it go to her head.  Indeed, Sorella was the kindest kind of pugletta, always with a ready tongue to slurp you with, and open paws for the most special of pug hugs…
Sorella was of European descent (she claimed), and indeed (again), Sorella was named Sorella because her great grandmother was also named Sorella….and there was a great aunt named Sorella and a grandmother named Sorella, and so on…and so on…. and so on…..Sorellla loved her name….it was just so Italian she thought…and she had heard great stories of her relative puglettas walking back and forth around the Trevi Fountain in Italy….why Sorella had even heard that her great aunt had a boyfriend name Flaviolo….and Sorella, being greatly interested in her ancestry, found every little thing about her family so…so fascinating!!
But the one thing that made Sorella just a little bit sad…mind you..just a little bit..certainly not more than that, was the fact that Sorella had never tasted Italian food…and she thought (and rightly so), that being of Italian origin..well, Italian food should be in the “cards” for her.  (I mean, after all..who can blame her?)
One day her human called to her “Come Sorella….I have a treat for you.”  And off she took..out to the kitchen to be “treated” with something her human called “spumoni.”  Now Sorella took one lap of this exotic-looking treat…and backed away!  She DIDN"T like it!!!!!  Her human was incredulous and stated as much…“I am just blown away that my little Sorella doesn’t like the taste of spumoni” she stated…(and since we all know how much puggies love food…indeed (again)...we were all incredulous!
Soon after this experience, on a particularly cold day….again Sorella heard the call she loved best….“Come Sorella…I have a treat for you.”  And again…off Sorella trotted to see what the treat would be.”  In a bowl…there were two meatballs, and some squiggly looking noodles…Sorella tried pickiing up a noodle but had the most difficult time because it just kept slipping out of her mouth…. Sorella backed off and sat down just looking from her bowl to her human.  And her human stated..“I cannot believe it…Sorella didn’t even go for the meatball!”  Sorella was disappointed…Her human was disappointed….All of us were disappointed…..and of course ...we were INCREDULOUS to see that Sorella the pugletta didn’t even want to try spaghetti!!!  ( However…Sorella really knew what she was doing as we are about to find out…...................)
Along came another day….Sorella the pugletta was happy as usual.  She had been for walks and played with everyone she loved and who loved her back….... All of a sudden came the familiar call….“Come Sorella….I have a treat for you!”.....and Sorella galloped out to the kitchen to see what there could possibly be….
In her food dish, (which she carefully sniffed first), there were pieces of meat, and noodles,  and tomato sauce….and CHEESE!  Sorella started wolfing down this interesting new meal…..and her owner exclaimed in a loud voice..“MY little Sorella loves MOZZARELLA! ....For Sorella, had decided she loved lasagna and was muzzle deep in her food dish!!!
From this day forward…Sorella came to be known as “SORELLA MOZZARELLA the beautiful PUGLETTA…..And Sorella loved this name…..because…she finally was unique!  And even though she loved hearing about all her relative Sorellas…..what she really wanted…..was a standout fantastical name and story to go with it!!!

Robin, thanks for that hilarious story! I’m sorry I’m so far behind that I didn’t see it until now. Sorella was actually named so because the word means “sister”, and we got her to be a little sister to our fawn pug Maggie. Contrary to the story, Sorella not only eats cheese (cheez?) but anything you put in front of her, Italian or not - hence her “tubularity.” She was giving me “goo-goo” eyes in this picture because she was bored and wanted to go for a walkie, and she knows that making eyes at me is very effective. Smart little pug.
