Dynamic Duo

Henry

One day, one of the boys had the bright idea to lift their leg and pee on the screen enclosure that goes around our pool.  Since the pugs know that they can not walk through the screen enclosure, they treat it like a wall and they are unable to comprehend that the little holes in the screen let their pee pee go through to the other side of the deck.

When they first discovered that the could pee from the outside of the screen and it would land on the deck they were quite pleased with themselves.  It was like they just found out they possessed super powers.  They could now pee through walls!

While Batman & Robin think of this as a glorious thing, I’m not too happy with it.  I have tried to make them stop, but they have me on a technicality.  They are in the yard outside when they go potty!  The only requirement I have ever had was that you go potty outside in the yard, I never specified exactly where in the yard.

To deter them from going potty through the screen, I built a little garden next to the screen and filled it with plants.  It worked for awhile as the plants became their new favorite thing thing to pee on.  But then, the boys changed things up and started peeing on a different part of the screen.  I didn’t really want to plant another garden so I got a little bamboo fence that you stick into the ground.  It isn’t very long, but it covered the main spot where they like to go potty.

It worked for awhile, but then the other day I spotted Benny doing this.

Benny

Come on Ben!  Must you?  The boy doesn’t have much smarts in other areas of life, but when it comes to peeing on things he is a genius!

The way I see it, I have two choices.  Take the easy way out and get more bamboo fence or for once and for all train them not to pee on the screen enclosure.  While it does irk me to have to squirt off the deck so often, I keep thinking back to when Benjamin & Henry were puppies and the never ending potty accidents I had to clean up in the house.  Those memories make this screen issue seem trivial.  This is about as close as they come to having potty accidents and that makes me one lucky woman.

I have 5 animals and, knock wood, they all go potty in the proper places.  The only issue is my two superheroes that sometimes abuse their super powers and pee through walls.

For Aunt Kelly

Sol

Well, we did it again.  We went to Sam’s Club and ended up leaving with yet another dog bed!  This one is called a “Cozy Chair” and was an instant fave amongst the pugs.

This just might be the dog bed that puts Aunt Kelly over the top and makes her schedule the intervention.

Ben

Have a great weekend everyone.

Inside Joke

Benjamin

Putting together the annual Owned by Pugs calendar is one of my favorites parts of the site.  However, there is something about going through thousands of photos and cropping and resizing hundreds of pictures for hours on end that makes me a little punchy.  From the first year the calendar contest was held, I have always had myself a good laugh at the number of pictures I get that are mainly of a person’s foot with a little pug head in the corner or are more shoe than pug.  Heck, once we even got a picture of just feet with no pug in sight.  Now, please don’t take this the wrong way.  I’m not knocking any of the pictures, I’m just saying they make me laugh.  After you have been working on the computer for 12 hours straight and you keep flipping through pictures and the recurring theme is feet instead of pugs, well, it is quite funny.

So when I saw this shot of Benny, it immediately made me think of the calendar contest.  Who knows, if I get giddy enough next year this might be the cover grin

The Slide

We walked to a playground at a nearby school the other day and the boys were in rare form.  Here are some photos of the boys hitting the slide.

And this is what happens when Henry is laying in wait at the bottom of the slide.

Hanging Around

Benjamin & Luna

A typical workday for the pugs.  While I work on the computer they work on soaking up the rays of the sun.

The Early Pug Gets the Cheerios

Benjamin

Some mornings, after I have gotten out of bed to get my shower, Benny slinks part of the way out from under the covers and makes himself comfortable on my pillow.  To see him snoring away in my spot always makes me laugh.

Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty Food

Benjamin gazing at the cat's food bowl

Cupid the cat has the honor of eating on the counter of the little bar section of the kitchen.  She gets this distinction because she is the only four legged creature in the house that does not devour her meal in less than 5 minutes.  Instead, she likes to savor her meal and come back and nibble on it throughout the day.  I think her main reason for doing this is that it drives Benjamin crazy!  Benny will be walking by the bar stools and he will suddenly catch a whiff of the tasty cat morsels and he immediately does an about face.  He will stand there gazing upward and whine at the cat’s food all the while trying to will it to come to him.

Sometimes, I will catch the cat sitting off in the distance watching and listening to Benny throw his tantrum.  I think it is a highlight of her day.  She wakes up early, prowls around the pool deck in the screen enclosure, toys with some geckos, eats a little bit of her breakfast and then waits for the pug with the red harness to throw a tantrum over her food.  I think it is a bit of kitty prank.  It’s sorta like every day is April Fools day for her.
