This weekend was pretty rainy and gloomy here in FL. Which, surprisingly, made for a good weekend. All the pressure of getting out and doing yard work and getting the grass cut was eliminated by the rain and we just took some time to relax on Sunday. We even baked cookies on Sunday (something we haven’t done in years). They were warm and tasty and we munched on them while watching the Redskins get blown away by the Patriots.
The pugs seemed to enjoy the downtime. Although, Benjamin & Luna were not happy about getting their paws wet on several occasions this weekend.
We also worked on putting the finishing touches on Benjamin, Henry & Luna’s Halloween Costumes. The boys’ costumes needed to be taken in at a few places, so they had the tough task of standing still while we measured, nipped and tucked. Henry did a good job, but this type of thing is nearly impossible for Benjamin. After he was released from captivity, he ran around the sofa for about ten minutes getting all of that energy that we stifled out of his system.
While the rain here was much needed, I kept thinking that our friends in California could use the rain way more than we could. I hope all the blog readers in Southern California are doing well and please know that we are thinking about you.

I must confess the boys & Luna have way too many plush toys. They have a little over two toy bins full of various plush toys, but one of them is always playing (or should I say dismembering) with one of them. They do have their favorites, though, and they seem to drag those toys everywhere. They nap with them, take them in the yard and sometimes Benny will even try to convince you to let him take his puffy on a walk with him. With the amount of action that these toys get they can get pretty filthy. So this weekend was bath time for all the plush toys. We did two loads of plush toys and a few more loads for their dog bedding and pillows. The toys all cleaned up very nicely and the dog beds smell very nice. So now the boys & Luna are on a mission to dirty everything back up again!

We launched H. Doodle a little over 5 months ago and things have gotten off to great start mainly because of the many loyal Pug Blog readers that have dropped by and picked up some toys or treats for their pugs. I can’t thank you enough.
One of the best parts of running H. Doodle is talking to other small dog owners about their pooch’s favorite toys or the outfits that their pups like to wear. On top of that, there is nothing better than when someone sends in a picture of their little one with their new prize. So, I thought it would be fun to share pictures of H. Doodle’s four-legged customers with their favorite toy, treat or outfit on the newly launched H. Doodle blog.
So, if your puggy has anything from the H. Doodle store send us a picture of your pup with their H. Doodle treat to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Also, in the e-mail give us all the details. Tell us about your pug, what they like about their item, what you like about the item and any other fun stuff that you would like to share. We will then post your picture and your story on the H. Doodle blog.
I think this will be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to seeing the pictures of all you cute pooches! Again, my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shopped at H. Doodle. You have truly helped get H. Doodle and a long time dream of mine off the ground.

After about a year of wear and tear, the boys were due for a new harness. They were currently wearing hemp harnesses because they were super soft and they only got softer as they aged. However, the fabric started to tear around the circular ring in the chest and Benjamin and Henry were literally on their last threads.
I had been keeping my eyes peeled, but needless to say I had put off harness shopping until the very last minute. To me finding the “perfect” harness is a tedious process. Benjamin has super sensitive skin so he needs a harness that is super soft. We learned this lesson when he was a pup and was breaking in his first harness. The harness rubbed him so bad that he developed a small irritation on the back of his neck.
Henry does not have sensitive skin, but he requires a harness that can easily be cleaned and can hold up to the rigors of frequent washings. See, Henry loves to roll in the grass and run through sprinklers. So his harness is constantly getting wet and smelly. So we need something that is definitely machine washable for Henry.
As for Luna, well, the only requirement for her is we need a harness the little worm can’t wiggle out of.
So with all of these considerations in mind we decided on the Gooby Freedom Harness.
We liked the Freedom Harness because it has a very wide chest portion. So when the little angels tug on the leash it will at least be more comfortable for them. The mesh is soft and breathable which is a must here in sunny Florida. And the rest of the harness straps are made of a super soft ultra suede. This keeps the harness from rubbing Benny raw.
We have been using the harness for about a month now and I must admit I love it. It is not rubbing Benjamin, it has stood up well to Henry’s romps in the sprinklers and little Luna has yet to escape. We even used these harnesses at PugFest and they worked fantastic. I highly recommend them.

When the boys were just pups, we would give them cute little “pet” names. Of course, Benjamin became Baby Benny. He was called that a lot. He is still called that quite often. I will get into some of the other nicknames, but I must digress for a moment because it did cause some trouble when we were trying to teach them their names.
When we were in puppy class, the teacher told us to only use their actual names. For training purposes, they must be Benjamin & Henry. The idea was so that you could easily get their attention and they could have name recognition. To teach them their own name, we would say their name and when they made eye contact with us, they would receive a treat to reinforce that they recognized their name. Well, the teacher said that Benjamin probably wouldn’t be called “Baby Benny” for his whole life. Hmmm….he was a great dog trainer but little did he know that Baby Benny would never really “grow up.”
In any event, I would like to share with you some of the nicknames that we have for the pugs. For Benjamin, he is also Benjamino, Been Jammin’, Bean, Beanpole and Baby Bean. I’ve also come up with a little poem that I recite to Ben when he is looking particularly cute or if I see that he is about to cause trouble. It goes like this: Green Bean, Jelly Bean. Where’s my Baby Benny Bean? Benjamin knows that this is not his “proper name” but knows if he hears something about Baby Bean, it’s about him. He is a sweety.
Next up, I’ll share some of the nicknames we have for Henry, Luna and even Cupid the cat.

Gosh, I can’t believe how long it has been since I last posted. The move from MD to FL has kept me much busier than I had anticipated, but things seem to be settling down and everyone is getting back into their normal routine.
The boys are doing great and really enjoying their newly fenced yard. They have been swimming in the pool a couple times since we moved and Henry loves it! Benjamin, on the other hand, is not so fond of the pool.
Tomorrow, we are really looking forward to Pug Day at Dog Wood park in Jacksonville. It’s a long ride for us, but the boys do great in the car and love going to Dog Wood park. Look for some photos of all the new pug friends that Benjamin and Henry meet at the park coming soon!

Wow, it has been quite some time since I have updated the blog! Things have been very hectic here because we just moved from Maryland to Florida. While it was crazy getting everything packed and then making the drive with Benjamin, Henry, Cupid the cat and Lou C. the family rabbit everything went very smoothly! I am very proud of all of them for handling the transition so well.
While we have only been here for just over a week, the boys have done great adjusting to their new surroundings. So far, their favorite part of the house is the lanai and pool deck area. They love to lay out sunning themselves.
We even had a chance to go to the dog park this weekend for some much needed fun! I should have some pictures up soon!
