On Sunday we decided to venture out to a nearby park that has awesome hiking trails. We hadn't been to this park in years so we thought Henry might really enjoy it. Plus, Henry has always loved to take walks through woodsy areas and these trails definitely fit the bill.
On our way out to the car, we realized that it was a lot more humid than we originally thought. Henry, humidity and long walks don't always go well together. We almost scrapped our trip, but we thought, Henry would be able to take a short walk on the trails. Plus, Henry had a big day at the beach the day before, so he wouldn't be up for too long of a walk anywhere we went.
As soon as we parked the car, Henry was happy to be on his old favorite trails. As predicted, we only took a short jaunt on the trails, but Henry was one happy pug!

Saturday was a pretty dreary day by Florida standards. It was raining off and on and was quite windy. With the so, so weather, we thought it would be a great day to take a little trip to the beach
The great thing about going to the beach when the weather is less than ideal is that we pretty much have the entire beach to ourselves. And this visit proved no different than our other crappy weather beach days.
Henry didn't care what the weather was like. He was happy to feel the sand between his paws. He walked the entire dog beach section and since it was low tide we were able to trek to a part of the beach that we aren't able to access very often. That was his favorite part, of course. It was his big moment to stray off the beaten path.
Considering that it was windy on the mainland, it was super windy on the beach. I think this big gust of wind almost blew Henry over! It was a warm breeze though so that helped.

On Henry's Sunday adventure he conquered this big hill. Which says a lot because it is really hard to find hills in Florida.
In case you can't spot Henry in the first picture here is a closer look.

What was Henry's favorite part of climbing up this big hill? That it was off the path. Henry isn't much to sticking to the beaten path. He'd much rather blaze his own trail.

The weather this weekend would be considered cold by many Floridians, but for Henry, it was awesome pug weather. And since Henry is feeling so much better we took full advantage of our time together this weekend.
The weekend kicked off with Henry taking a long walk around the neighborhood on Friday night. We were able to get out before it got dark and Henry really liked that. He did the whole loop around our neighborhood, which is about 1.25 miles. It has been a long time since Henry has been able to walk that far without being carried or getting a "ride" home. We watched Henry closely for any signs that he was getting tired, but he easily finished the walk and bounded up the driveway at the end to get home for dinner.
Henry rested up on Saturday morning and by Saturday afternoon he was ready to get out and about again. This time we went to one of our favorite parks that has lots of shade. Henry got a nice walk in there and met a few other dogs too.
Sunday was an overcast day, but Henry was ready to get out for his usual Sunday morning jaunt. This time we went to a local shopping center that has a lake with a little fitness trail. Henry did the whole trail and a few little extra bump outs. After that he rode with his head out the window the whole way home.
It is so awesome to see Henry feeling so much better and happy to be out and about.

Henry still isn't crazy about the stroller, but he is starting to learn to like it. If he is tired enough he will concede and agree to ride in it. Of course he would rather be carried than pushed, but he is way too heavy to be carried any real distance. It's a slow process, but Henry is learning to like the stroller.

A cold front rolled in last Sunday and brought us a lovely day of mid 70° weather. There was no way we were not going to take advantage of such pug friendly weather. So, we suited Henry up and took him for a walk at one of our favorite parks. It was a great Sunday walk and was the perfect mini adventure for Henry before his 3rd chemo treatment the next day.

To help Henry get ready to go to work with me, we have been practicing going up and down stairs. Whenever we come across a set of stairs we make Henry climb them. He's always hesitant at first, but then he eventually comes around and works his way up them.

And once he is up them, there is always the task of getting back down them. Which to me is the scarier part, but not for Henry. He goes down the steps much faster than he goes up the steps for some reason.

And whenever we get to a set of stairs, I like to remind Henry that he lived in a 3 story house for the first 2 years of his life. Henry and Benjamin used to race up and down the stairs like wild men. They would chase, push and pummel and do all kinds of unsafe things on the stairs. But, after almost 10 years of Florida living and rarely encountering stairs, Henry seems to have forgotten all about his stair adventures as a young pug.
