Friends

We recently had company visiting from Maryland (an old college buddy). Dogless, we went on a little human only adventure. We attended the "Flamingo Follies" in New Smyrna Beach. New Smyrna is a quaint little town that offers a street lined with shops offering an array of wonders. Well, during the Follies, they closed the street to traffic and had load of vendors selling their arts and crafts and other accoutrement.

As we made our way down the avenue, we crossed paths with another friend! It was Mary! Mary is the grandmother to Jade. Jade is a black pug we met shortly after Solsey passed away. Jade’s mom is, and I say with the utmost affection as we love her dearly and truly miss her visits, a blog stalker but only occasional commenter, "Jennifer Moulton used to be Davis".

Recently married, Jennifer had her pug Jade in her wedding. Jade, of course, is also in this OBP 2012 calendar. The photo of Jade shows her in all of her divaness at her mama’s wedding.

Jade

It was great to see Mary and we hope to Mary, Jennifer and Corey with Jade down here again soon.

I actually had a double bonus to see Mary again when I dropped off the OBP calendar to her. At that meeting she generously gave me a loaf of pumpkin bread to bring to the pugs. I will have a follow up to this story with pumpkin bread eating pug photos soon. So, we just wanted to give a ruff ruff (i.e. pug shout out) to our old buds!

2012 Owned by Pugs Calendar Contest

It's hard to think about 2012 when I just really got used to writing 2011, but it is time to kick off the 2012 Owned by Pugs Calendar Contest!

Here is a quick overview on how the contest works. Click here to view complete contest guidelines.

  • Pug lovers can submit their pictures for consideration into the calendar from August 15, 2011 - September 9, 2011. Please review the rules/terms and conditions before submitting your photos.
  • There is no limit to the number of pictures one person can submit. But, please do not take advantage of this rule and submit your whole pug photo collection. Pick your favorites.
  • Calendars will be available for sale in late October / early November for $20. $5 from each calendar sale will be donated to one of the partner pug rescue organizations of your choosing.

If you are a rescue group and would like to partner with us and be on the donation list, simply send me an email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)).

On a side note, this in all likelihood will be the last year that I will be holding the Owned by Pugs Calendar Contest. While it is a ton of fun, it is also a lot of work and unfortunately I don't have as much time to devote to the calendar as I once did. So, get your marvelous pictures submitted so this year can be the best year ever!

H. Doodle Store Closing

H. Doodle

I have finally decided that H. Doodle will close its virtual doors on July 2, 2011. We still have a lot of great items available at bargain prices. Be sure to check out our remaining collars and leashes and if you are a baseball fan we have lots of great sportswear for pooches. We even have something for the patriotic pooch for the upcoming fourth of July holiday.

Thanks for all your support throughout the years!

Transition in Progress

Henry, Luna and Benjamin

The OBP family is currently in a state of transition. I'm not sure if everyone realized that even though we live in Florida, the company I worked for was based in Maryland (from which we hail). Well, in February, this company was sold and I, along with other co-workers, found myself without a job.

Fortunately, I was lucky enough to find a job in a few short weeks. However, while my new place offers a relaxed atmosphere, I am not able to work from home. I had been working from home for about 8 ½ years (since the boys were pups). So, they are used to having me around. And I was used to having them around. The pugs would snore at my feet, keep me company at lunch time and warn me if the door bell was about to ring. They were the best office mates anyone could ever ask for.

So sadly, this had to all change. It is actually bittersweet, though. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I am ever so thankful to have a job at all. In this economy, I am truly appreciative to be able to have landed something so quickly and not that far from home. I just miss the puggers (and Cupid, too, of course).

But while I won't be home to spend time with the pugs, the pugs will have plenty of company. Grammy will be spending lots of time with the pugs and we have hired an awesome dog sitter that the pugs adore. It will be a change for sure, but I know the pugs will be just fine. In fact, they are handling it better than I am.

One final note, try not to worry if I am not exactly "on time" with future postings. While I am not planning on changing anything about the blog, it might take me a little time to adjust to my new schedule.
