When we moved to our new house 2 years ago, we thought it would be great to have a Mimosa tree in the backyard. A Mimosa tree has very unique leaves and gets the best pink, powder-puff like blooms. It is also a great shade tree.
So we went to different nurseries hoping to find a Mimosa tree to plant. To our surprise, a Mimosa tree was very hard to come by and the few we did find were very expensive. After a year and a half of searching, we walked by a Mimosa tree while walking the pugs and noticed tons of seed packets laying on the ground. We picked up a few and thought we would try our hand at growing a Mimosa tree from a seed.
We didn’t get our hopes up, so we were more than thrilled when about two weeks after we planted the seeds, we had a little baby Mimosa tree
After the seed sprouted, we have been keeping a close eye on it and transferring it to bigger and bigger pots. Each time we transplanted it, we crossed our fingers and hoped that we didn’t kill the little tree. Last weekend, Mimo was ready for a new pot and we decided that instead of getting a bigger pot it was time to plant her in the backyard. So, we picked the perfect spot for Mimo with the help of Benjamin, Henry & Luna.
They were very eager to help and pleased to have something new in the yard that they can go potty on. Lets just hope that Mimo can hold up to her frequent waterings!
I thought it would be fun to do a little something different and play a little game of “Caption This” on the blog. Each week, I will post a photo and I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks should be the photo’s caption.
I thought we could kick things off with this picture of Henry, Benjamin & Luna eyeing Luna’s birthday cake. Henry is the one with his tongue out and Luna is in the middle.
Leave your caption in the comments. Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!
Well, technically it’s not my homework, it’s my to do list. Henry managed to get a hold if it with a little help from the ceiling fan in my office. After seeing that none of the items were, “Give Henry a treat”, he decided to shred it. Oh, well, don’t worry about it Hank, I didn’t want to do any of that stuff anyway.
Henry isn’t the type to make any rash decisions. Every move he makes is well thought out to ensure that he has to take the least amount of steps and that no unnecessary effort is exerted on his part. I guess what I am trying to say is that Henry is lazy.
It is hard to really say just how lazy Henry is because the only other pugs I have to compare him to is Benjamin & Luna. I would say that these two are on the hyper side. Both are easily excited and rarely ever walk anywhere. They usually dart from room to room, jump up and down whenever food might be involved and never, ever do they miss being at your feet when the refrigerator door gets opened. Not only that, but once the door is opened they feel compelled to peak inside and make sure that their food dishes are in there and are doing well and they always want to know if they would like us to have them eat a few meals to make some room in the fridge for other things (like more dog food).
Henry is not like Benjamin or Luna at all. Just the other day, I snapped the above photo of him lounging on the living room chair before I made my lunch. After I snapped the picture, I went to the fridge to get my lunch. Hearing the fridge door open, Benjamin & Luna woke from their nap and were at my feet in a matter of seconds. Jumping and prancing around and sticking their heads in the refrigerator even though they knew full well that it isn’t time for them to eat. Henry on the other hand, did this:
Yup, Henry managed to lift his head to see what I was up to in the kitchen. His logic, “Hmm…that sounds like the refrigerator door. But, I’m not going anywhere until I here the sound of the food bowls. I would hate to have to get out of my chair if we weren’t eating.”
Henry is just as interested in eating as Benjamin and Luna, except he takes a little bit more of a paws off approach. I’m kinda glad that Henry is laid back, though. It is hard enough to get anything out of the fridge now with two pugs nosing around. I can’t imagine what it would be like with three pugs sticking their heads in there.
Benjamin has taken a liking to the dog bed that we stumbled across in Walgreens awhile back. He never lays in it alone, though. He always makes sure that he has at least a couple of stuffed friends with him. On this occassion, he has his 2nd favorite duck and a stuffed pug toy. Notice, how the stuffed pug is missing its left ear. Benny, would you like to explain to everyone how that happened?
The Fastags shrinking ID tags work like shrinky dinks. You write your pugs identification info on the tag and then you bake the tag in the oven. While baking in the oven, the tag magically shrinks in size. It’s fun for kids, parents and pugs alike!
This Saturday we went to Central Florida Pug Rescue’s Spring fundraising event, Bunnies, Peeps and Pugs….Oh My! It was a really neat event with games, auctions and raffles.
The game that Benjamin enjoyed the most was the Easter Egg Hunt. There were 500 eggs scattered about filled with treats. Well, needless to say that when Benjamin stumbled across the field full of treat filled eggs, Benny thought that all his wishes had come true and that treats were just magically appearing everywhere he looked. Benny just kept going from egg to egg in disbelief that he kept finding so many treats. Being the optimistic pup that he is, Benny kept looking for treats inside the eggs even after he ate the prize inside.
The boys and Luna also took part in a game called, Know Your Pug. In Know Your Pug, a bunch of pugs are put in a pen and a blindfolded human gets in the pen and must pick out their own pug. In the pen, was a little pup that was really excited. Benjamin & Luna played with the pup for a bit and then they joined Henry and sat at the side starring at us to get them out of the pen.
There was also a bonnet contest, and while Luna had a very pretty bonnet, she was not being very cooperative and somehow we missed the entire contest. In all the excitement, she didn’t want to sit still to get her picture taken either.
There was also a Pug Kissin Booth there. I thought this was just the cutest!
We also had a chance to see our friend Julia and her Mom Ann at the event. Julia was a model in the fashion show auction and she was wearing a very beautiful dress with antique lace accents. She was simply darling!
After so much fun at the event and the car ride home, the boys and Luna were quite tuckered out. Not long after we got home, I found them snuggled up in the pillows snoring away. They had fun!
