Last week's post about Luna's dry eye, sparked some comments about how everyone's pugs handle eye drops. I can totally relate to everyone who struggles to give their pug drops. Until Benjamin needed eye drops I never really appreciated how cooperative Luna is when it comes to eye drops.
When it is time to give Luna an eye drop she doesn't budge. You can walk right up to her and plop the drop right in her eye. You are done in less than 5 seconds.
Benny, on the other hand, is exhausting. When he first started needing eye drops, he thought he could avoid them by running away. However, he always just seemed to walk to a corner of a room and face the wall. So, he wasn't really hard to catch. Where Benny excels at thwarting eye drops is in the strength of his eye lids. When you try to give him drops, he will close his eyes. And he doesn't just close his eyes, he holds them closed with all his might - which is a lot surprisingly. Prying open his eyelids are no easy task and once you get them open you have to be fast with the drops because you only have a small window to sneak in the drop.
Lucky for us, he has gotten a bit better with taking his eye meds, but he is still no where near as good as Luna. What a difference a pug makes!

I hate losing an hour when we "spring forward", but I love the extra hour of daylight that change brings in the evenings. It means we can take the pugs out for an evening walk and not have to bring flashlights with us. Plus, the evening temperatures in FL right now are perfect for pugs. Great weather, daylight and pug walks. This is absolutely my favorite time of the year!

April 2009
This is one of my favorite pictures of the boys. We have been taking Benjamin and Henry to playgrounds since they were pups and they always loved to chase each other up and around the steps, tunnels and slides.
In this picture, Henry was chasing Benny. Benny went up a flight of steps and down the slide. Instead of following him, Henry, cut underneath the steps, through the sand and met Benny at the bottom of the slide. Needless to say, Henry pummeled Benny when he caught up to him. True to form, Benny rolled right to his feet and kept on running.

Whenever I see Cupid sprawled out like this, and I find her this way quite often, I always think, boy is she stressed! No one knows how to relax quite as well as the cat.

It took us a while to get Luna on right drop regime, but after years of trying different combinations of medicines we finally worked everything out and Luna's eyes have been the best they can be for her for a few years now. However, the last two weeks Luna's left eye has been super dry. I'm not sure what is going on with it. We have been following her drop schedule and have even increased the frequency at which we give her her lubricant drops, but nothing has seemed to work. The recent cold spell might be to blame, as that seemed to dry everything out, or I suspect the diuretic we just started her on might be the culprit. I'm going to run that one past the vet and see what he thinks. If that is the case, I guess the diuretic is really working if it is even drying her eyes out!
