All Mine

Luna

Now this is how Luna likes to sleep in her puff pillow. She can't get comfortable like this when her brother is hogging her bed.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! No big plans for us. Maybe some swimming for the pugs. I know I still owe everyone a swimp camp blog week grin

Precious Luna in the lap of luxury.

Just got back from the emergency vet.  It is 6:24 am CDT.  Romeo woke me up at 5 am.  I thought he was having seizures.  At 5:20 am off he went to the ER…head shaking, rapid eye movement, going around in circles, poor balance.  Diagnosis?  Either vestibular disease or brain tumor.  He was given dramamine.  I will follow up with my vet at 7 am.

I am once again asking for your prayers and support.

Oh NO Sue VDB…My heart is breaking reading this.  My Riley had vestibular disease so this hits close to home.  I am hoping and praying with all my might it is not a brain tumor and that you get some answers ASAP.  Prayers going up for precious Romeo…stay strong lil’ boy.  Sue, please keep us posted…

SUE VDB:  Sending more prayers your way.  Doubly scary when something like this occurs in the wee hours.  Although no one is ever prepared for trips to the ER.  My heart absolutely aches for your family.  I’m praying for good news and some peace of mind for you all.

Luna is the epitome of peace and a sense of well-being.  I feel more relaxed just looking at her picture this a.m. and seeing that contented smile on her pug-face.  Hoping everyone gets some reprieve from the tiresome heat and will keep little Romeo in their prayers as well.

This is how my Wheezy likes to use the beds. She also likes to scratch her nose in the corner. It’s so funny to watch.

Mary, I love what you said about this pic of Luna…I couldn’t agree more.  In fact, I came to “grab it” for my wallpaper.  Luna reminded me this morning that I deserve The Best and that I should not settle for less.  A very apropos message for me at the current moment.  Thanks Looney - I needed that reminder today…and so I will look at your beautiful self all day as a testament to us women creating the best lives we can for ourselves!

Looney Tunes ~ once again, I love you so. You are absolutely adorable on your puffy. I love how your tail is still curled. Does this mean you are awake and pretending that you are asleep?! Silly girl. The puffy is all yours.

Ah, the very essance of nah, nah, nah, nah, nah nah, nah.

Sue VDB, this hits like a punch in the stomach.  I can’t believe it.  I know you’re very scared and worried.  Of the two options, which is the better?  Praying very hard for you and that little rascal Romeo.  Oh no, this can’t be happening. Praying for good news soon.

Dear OBP Friends,

Thank you so very much for your prayers, your thoughts and your words of encouragement.

Huckle, to answer your question, vestibular disease is the lesser of two evils.  Vestibular can’t be cured, but it can be controlled.  A brain tumor is a matter of time, and depends totally on quality.

You guys won’t believe this, but this afternoon no one would believe the problems he had this morning…no signs of them.  Good?  I don’t think so. As I understand it once you have vestibular there will always be a sign of it, mainly with the head tilt (not the usual pug head tilt).  Because of his actions this afternoon I believe it is an ugly tumor rearing its head.  I could have an MRI done to say yay or nay, but if it is there is nothing that can be done for it. Until I hear otherwise I am keeping Romeo on Dramamine every 8 hours.

Romeo has an appointment with Jim Thursday to give him a checkup.

Meanwhile Minnie is doing good.  I am surprised she hasn’t tried to chew off her bandaging.  She goes in Tuesday for a checkup.

All I can do at this point is keep praying and give Romeo all the love he will allow me to give, which at this point in time is a lot.  Even with all his problems this morning he did all he could to come to me for help, so right now I am his hero.

Oh Sue, my heart goes out to you. I know how hard it must be, but please know you have so many people that care and will continue praying and sending you good thoughts. And of course, you are his hero. He knows how blessed he is to have such a great mom.

Oh Sue….still thinking of you and Romeo. Romeo has the best care he can in you. I googled vestibular disease this morning and sounds like the symptoms come and go. So maybe that is good.?! Can they test for vestibular? I pray that that is what it is. God Bless you both and keep your chin up! So many people are praying for you!

Sue VDB, my heart just aches for you and Romeo.  You have become so important for the blog and for each of us.  We could go into all sorts of “whys”, “unfairs” and all that sort of thing.  I’m a pragmatist as well as a romantic and those don’t always fit together, but I do know this, everyone of us on the blog have our hands extended to help you up through this trial, whatever it will bring.  You have touched so many of us with your good humor, your helpfulness and caring, and your good wishes.  How could we do less?  And don’t we wish we could do more!  We are here when you need us.

Pug hugs and love,
Huckle

Romeo Update.

First of all I am simply overwhelmed by the loving support.  I cannot even begin to express how great that makes me feel, and how much it helps.

Now, I’m not sure if the Dramamine is what is causing the effect, but since Friday afternoon Romeo has been his usual self, no going around in circles, no unsteadiness, no head tilting, no rapid eye movement, no drooling.  It’s as if I was dreaming the whole morning episode.  When I spoke to my vet Friday he told me to watch him carefully, not let him go down steps, crate him when I left, hand feed him because he would not be able to eat because of the unsteadiness. Every single symptom has disappeared, so now I don’t know what to think, except it is a tumor after all.  Romeo sees the vet Thursday and maybe I will get some answers then. Right now I am happy and concerned at the same time, as well as confused.

Meanwhile, the med for his hypothyroidism seems to be doing its job.

Love,
Sue VDB and Romeo

P.S.  Could it be St. Francis is answering all the prayers?

Huckle

07/31/2011

Sue VDB, Yes!  How blessed to have this respite.  If it were a tumor, would it come and go like this?  The symptoms you have described seem to fit the vestibular disease symptoms.

Romeo must be feeling about a hundred times better than he was.  Does he have an appetite?  I read that hand feeding is the best way right now because of vertigo and this is less stress.  Also, are his water bowls up off the ground so he doesn’t have to reach down which may make him fall over.  There seems to be some goo stuff on the internet although I would consult with the vet first.  One of them did mention antibiotics, anti-nausea Prednisone and dramamine to help with the symptoms.  Maybe your vet will do some of that later on.

Time to give Romeo a big smooch from the Swamp Pugs, and Cooper (with a bow to Karen on Coopers inclusion).  I am so glad today is a better day.

Sue VDB-Dramamine is for dizziness also, I believe…Maybe he’s just having a little vertigo (dizziness)  I don’t think that a tumor is it, cuz I don’t think the Dramamine would help…And wouldn’t he act like he had a headache and feel puny?  I don’t know…Just hoping the Dramamine is all Romeo needs!
