Is your pug a picky eater?

Mine won’t eat mushrooms.  They get all excited, get it in their mouth…swish it around a moment and spit it out.  Then they walk around, sporting a disappointed look :D

My male HATES bananas and black olives… He will spit them out and then he wont trust me again till the next day and sniffs anything I try to give him! HAHA

Heather, please be careful giving your pugs
grapes or raisins. They are toxic to dogs.

Hmmm…now you made me paranoid so I looked again and seems there’s new info now about a toxin in them…strange.  My boys are 8 and 9 years old and have had a few grapes here and there their whole life…

Guess I’ll have to look into it some more as information changes..thanks again.

I think I better get that pumpkin bread recipe b/c Bax and Ri are NOT going to be happy that momma is now way too paranoid to ever give them their grapies again!

Meimei used to not like bananas - but since we started buying organic - she loves them!  She spit out celery once, but I tried it again with her and she took her time with it and then begged for more.

Miko, my poor girl, would eat anything we gave her - sadly we can’t give her much because of allergies (and intolerences for preservatives).

Since we don’t have Bob Evans here…wonder if Ann will share her recipe.  If Benny gave it paws up, I’m sure the boys will love it!!

My pugs don’t really like any green food (lettuce, broccoli, cucumbers, etc.)  Other than that, all food is pretty much fair game!

I am sorry to say that I don’t exactly have a recipe for pumpkin bread…I am a baker that flies by the seat of her pants!  What I did was convert a people pumpkin bread recipe to one suitable for pugs (and people who don’t want sugar and fat in their foods!  Find a pumpkin bread recipe and start substituting:  Whole wheat, buckwheat and oat flour for the white flour (oat flour is just oatmeal ground up in a blender), applesauce substitutes for the sugar and fat, yogurt and milk to moisten it, eggs for leavening and the flax seed and wheat germ for an extra nutritional kick.  It takes a little experimentation, but as long as the batter looks like people pumpkin bread batter, it will work.  Pour into loaf pans and bake at 350 degrees for about 45-50 minutes.

Contains whole wheat flour, buckwheat flour,
oat flour, pureed pumpkin, eggs, milk, flax seed,
wheat germ, yogurt and unsweetened
applesauce

my late apple love all kinds of fruits (include durians!) except orange/lemon. she is a very picky eater whn it comes to meat, she only take fresh meat. for canned food, she will only beef. she loved sweets and her fave food in the world is persimmon.

Angus LOVES anything and everything that is edible.  He even tries to eat things that aren’t!  Why are Pugs such Pigs!? hahaha…

wow… is it really healthy to feed pugs all this “people” food? I am researching because I just recently received a new Brindle Pug mix and he wont eat his pup food for anything! His big brother( which is not really his brother but a full pug) has no problem eating his doggie food… but I’m starting to wonder if he’s overweight? HELP PLEASE!!!

Benjamin, Henry & Luna eat apples all the time.  It is one of their favorite foods.  I wouldn’t eat too much at first as it might be a shock to your system, but as far as we know apples aren’t bad for pugs.

i want to buy a dog but i dont know if a pug would be a wise choise cause i go to the beach alot…i dont know if he will stand the heat on the bech or not

The only thing my 8 month old pug won’t eat is lettuce..otherwise, the sky is the limit…lolol
She especially loves goldfish crackers(cheddar), and peanut butter.

Don’t give your pugs (or any dogs) ONIONS, TOMATOES, and especially GRAPES and RAISINS (which have toxins that can kill dogs-I have read this in numerous places out on the Internet-It’s not a joke.)  I read an article where an owner listened to her vet (that her dog would be ok after eating just a few raisins).  The owner woke up the next day and her dog was dead!  It’s best to check out on the Internet, before giving your precious “baby” any people food.  Who would have thought that I shouldn’t give my pug Macadamia nuts (or other nuts, either)?  Just because pugs WILL eat EVERYTHING-does not mean that pugs SHOULD eat everything.

I was wondering if its ok to give wheat based treats to my lil 5 month pug cherie!

My puglet was giving us a hard time after christmas. He used to finish all of his food, but after the parties and the running around it seems as though he got used to having some people snacks….grrrr….So He basically would snack here and there through out the day. So, seeing that his energy levels were fine, we looked up things about picky eating. We tried putting a tiny bit of olive oil on his food and so he would gobble up all the pieces with olive oil on it, not finishing his bowlful.
Then I mixed some strawberries in with his eukanuba and he did a little better. But then my hubby came up with the idea to throw a little beef broth (low sodium) on the food and heat it up in the microwave for 20 seconds and put the food on a plate instead of in his bowl. WELL, puglet nearly lost it he was so happy to have warm eats with some “sauce”. He ate the whole thing and keeps going back to lick the plate hoping there is more. I would give that a try since it takes just a splash of broth and keeps them from begging too much for your food!

My Pugz-e Wugz-e will eat alot of stuff. He is very young though so he still has time and he hasn’t tried everything yet. Two things he definitely will not eat are lettuce and carrots. He’ll sniff it then move it with his paw. One thing he loves to eat which is rare is snow. when i take him out for a walk he will stop at every CLEAN pile of snow and tap chunks off then eat them. One thing he absolutely loves is apple chunks. I was giving him some and after every little piece he would sit down down and turn his head. How cute.? I love my pug so much.

Reading all the shared stuffs here I got something that I could use.And take note this site has a well organized item here.

Charlie - 1.6 year is so picky!  He spits out treats. The only thing he’ll eat is roasted chicken and cheddar cheese.  I’ve tried everything - my vet said to try plain old canned dog food, and even that didn’t work.  If forced, he’ll eat Bil-Jac but frankly I’m happy he’ll down the chicken and cheddar. Oh, another thing - I free feed him. I just put the food out there and most of the time he isn’t interested, but goes to it during the day.  I tried only putting the dish down once a day, but that didn’t work. If he’s hungry, he picks up the empty bowl in his mouth, finds me and hits my ankle with it. I’m beginning to think he’s smarter than I am.
