Talk to Me

Henry

The pugs are so used to me taking pictures of them that they pretty much ignore me when I have the camera out. So, sometimes, the difference between a picture like the one above where Henry is like whatever and the one below where Henry is engaged in what is going on is a simple question.

Henry

"Are you hungry?"

It's funny, I don't know how many times I have asked that question in the last 9 years, but never have the pugs answered, "Nah, not really." I always get an emphatic YES!

That would get my attention too! Great picture!

Pip has a well check at the vet today but last night we noticed on his front foot that inbetween his “toes” it is swollen big time. He was also limping a bit. Good thing we have an appointment. I hope it’s nothing.

Oh Corrine, what a contrast.  Except when I ask “hungry?” at my house, it’s like a stampede.  I don’t say it very often…mostly when they are outside before I have to leave and they don’t want to come in, and act like they are deaf.  Romeo, especially, can really put on the speed in reacting to the magic word.  Of course they all get one treat.

Hope all you mamas, two legged, four legged, or both,  had a great Mother’s Day.  I certainly did.

Gina, good luck with Pip at the vet.  Hope the swelling is a minor injury.  Let us know.

Awwwww…Henry is so handsome in both pics!!!  LOVE his lil’ lip stuck up on his teeth - Mr. Cole does this all the time and it’s just too precious!

Gina, hope Pip’s toe is nothing more than a little irritation.  Please keep us posted!!

We had a wonderful weekend enjoying SUN!!!  I thought it would never come….Enjoy your day everyone!

sue, do you get the feeling they have us trained?  That they know if they wait long enough they will hear the magic word.

I agree with all the comments.  Sleighbelle has me trained; she knows if she ignores me enough (she’s deaf, but she can SEE the treat in my hand)I will get a treat to make her come in the house.

Luckily they are the cutest things in the world…otherwise…

We know the “H” word, too, and ALWAYS respond to it!

Hello everyone… just a quick update….the vet doesn’t think it is cancer b/c it came up suddenly. It wasn’t there yesterday morn but by yesterday afternoon it was. And since Pip isn’t licking his foot at all, it’s like he doesn’t know it’s there so that is good. He says it is some type of virus that does go away on it’s on. He called it a histiocytoma.

He doesn’t want to do any type of cutting or biopsy at this point since it isn’t even 24 hours old. He took a picture and I’m supposed to watch it to make sure it doesn’t get red or bigger or worse.

I feel good with this diagnosis. So just praying that it goes away on it’s own.!

Phew! Thanks everyone!!

Sue VDB yes I think they have us trained and wrapped around there paws but wouldnt have it any other way

Gina glad to hear the vet thinks it will go away when one of my boxers was a puppy he got a bump on his paw and the vet said the same thing we just left it and it did go away all on its own hope the same for Pip

You can almost see your reflection in Henry’s eyes.

Gina, we just went through that same thing with Georgie.  It was gross and I didn’t know how it got big so quickly.  The vet called it an interdigital cyst and it’s quite common.  Before I got him in at the vet, I soaked it in epsome salts but I didn’t have the gumption to lance it.  He is now on antibiotics (which I have a question about) and predisone for the pain.  Today you wouldn’t know he had a problem.

Sue VDB - I can just picture Romeo, so funny.

It must be pugs. If they’re in the back of the yard and I want them to come I just yell “Cookies” and they come running.

Gina, I pray that Pip’s recovery is very, very quick.  I never had this type of problem with any of my pugs over the years.  I am going to research this.  Especially glad the vet doesn’t believe it is cancer…yay.

Well, life is full of surprises.  I have never seen or heard of other dogs respond to “hungry” until this website. It truly is a magic word, but I still think they are all holdoffs, knowing that we will say it and they will win…little stinkers.

Gina praying for Pip and hoping it goes away just as quickly as it arrived!!  Give that lil’ paw a kiss from us!

Ah ha!!  This is a great photo tip, Corrine!  Do you have to follow through with some food after you ask?

I laughed to discover that all of us have been so well trained by our pugs to lure them inside : )  That’s what works for Bennie and me, too!!!

Gina, I’m glad the vet doesn’t think it’s serious.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and kind words. I of course googled ‘histiocytoma’ and it said that it was common in a few breeds but not pugs. smile But it did list Boxers as a breed it was common in Sue! So that is good that it went away for you too!

Huckle ~ I’m so glad Georgie has recovered 100%! The vet said having this on their feet is hard b/c that is something they use everyday so it’s hard to heel. Praying that it will go away on it’s on and fast!

Thanks again everyone! I love our little community!

I coulda sworn I blogged on this morning but I guess I didn’t read the posts…big BLONDE moment.  Gina, I hope Pip’s “thorn in his paw” heals soon!  We had a couple grands over last night and they wanted popcorn with their movie…drove C.J. nuts!  Poor baby is still not getting nibbles of any type…

And yep, amazing how that “h word” can get their attention when all else fails!!

Gina

Thank you Karen B.!!! And good for you for sticking to C.J.s “diet”. It is sooooooo hard! You are being a good pug Mommy!

LOL!!!!  That is so true!!!  My mom’s little dog, food doesn’t do it for her, but if you ask her “Where’s the squirrel?” that gets the cutest head cock you ever did see!!!
