One Year Ago

Sol

One year ago today, I snapped this picture of Solsey. I can't even put into words how much I miss her. But, I am so very grateful that the 15 months she shared with us are packed full of such wonderful memories. Not a day passes that we don't share a Solsey story.

Shady

Henry and Luna

We recently installed blinds on the front door for a little privacy and to help cut down on the amount of sunlight that pours into the living room in the evenings. We thought reducing the amount of sunlight that enters the house during the summer would help lessen the load on our friend the AC.

But we couldn't just put up blinds on the window because I could just imagine how quickly the pugs would tear them right off the door. So, we got shades that are enclosed in glass and hook right onto the door, which means the pugs can scratch at the door and won't be messing with the blinds.

One major drawback, is that having the shades closed limits the pugs view. Which is perfectly fine with me because a limited view means limited barking, but I'm not so sure how well it is going to go over with the pugs. So far they seem to be fine.

Luna

But, since the amount of sunlight pouring into the house is greatly reduced they do have to chase the sun a bit more. Before a huge rectangle of sun poured through the door. Now they just get little patches that jump around depending on the angle of the sun. But, don't worry, little Luna seems to have gotten the hang of things already.

Ultimate Pillow Pile

Henry

The living room is now overrun with pillows. During the day, the couch is piled high with pillows that the pugs use in the afternoon when they nap and gaze out the front door. But, after dinner, two humans actually like to sit on the couch and unwinding on top of three pillows stacked on the couch isn't all that comfortable. Trust me, I've tried it.

So, before we settled down last night, I took some of the pillows that were on the sofa and just tossed them on the clamshell chair. Within a few minutes, Henry was leaping up to make himself comfortable on the enormous pile.

Henry

At first, I almost took one of the pillows down because the stack of 4 put Henry over the edge of the chair on the one side. It was late, I was tired and Henry is clumsy. I was certainly not up for a trip to the emergency vet and having to explain that Henry injured himself falling off a big pile of pillows. But, Henry seemed to have the situation under control, so I let him reign supreme on the ultimate pillow pile.

Central Florida Pug Rescue is auctioning off a beautiful quilt done in the rescue's colors to help raise money for the pugs in their care. Details are below, but please note the deadline for entry into the raffle has been extended to September 10, 2010. You can find out more information from the CFPR website.

Also, CFPR is in desperate need of foster homes. If you live in the greater Orlando area and would like to help out take a look at their volunteer page. Or if you can't foster, adopting one of their many cuties would help too. grin

Oh, Deer!

Deer

Friday afternoon, just as I was getting off work, I heard the pugs barking like crazy. I could tell by the urgency in their barks that they weren't just saying hello to one of the normal walkers or joggers that are frequently out at that time of the night. So, I walked from my office to the living room to check things out. Much to my surprise, the pugs were barking at a deer. I have never seen a deer anywhere near the house, so I was very surprised to see one right across the street, just hanging out.

Deer

Since barking at a deer was new territory for the pugs, Benjamin took to high ground, the couch, and barked from there. Luna took the main window and Henry's post was the sidelight.

The deer hung around for about 20 minutes before it darted back into the woods. The pugs were berserk for about the first five minutes, but after that they quieted down and just watched with amazement.

Cuteness Alone

Benny

Things have been pretty quiet here in the OBP house. Walks are still limited because of the heat and humidity and we have been getting a lot of rain this week. Which, ultimately, is great because we can always use the rain. But, in terms of pug adventures things have been very humdrum around here. So, since we don't have any interesting stories to tell, I told the pugs they needed to dial up the cuteness until I dream up something fun for us to do and share with all the OBPers out there.

Have a great weekend everyone and don't forget about the 2011 Calendar Contest.
