Keeping An Ear Out

Ben

Keeping with our ear out for noises in the kitchen theme, here is Baby Benny listening to what is happening in the kitchen while striking a pose for the camera.

The Most Nervous One

Benjamin and Henry

Last Friday, when all four pugs made their way to the eye vet, Benjamin was the most nervous of the bunch. Benjamin, the only pug that did not have an appointment.

He was fine in the car, but when we arrived at the office he was on high alert. Smelling this & that & sticking his nose where it didn't belong. He even made sure he was the first one of the group to get weighed. Because if anything bad happened he wanted them to have his accurate weight!

When we went into the exam room, he immediately found the treat jar. Knowing that there were treats in the room that he had not yet tasted kept him busy for a while. Once the eye vet came in, he was first to greet her and made sure that she knew he was Benny & that he was fine.

The girls were first up and Benjamin paid no attention to them. Instead he was focused on those tasty treats in the jar out of his reach. Then it was Henry's turn & that is when Benny practically fell apart. He paced and whined & eventually jumped up on the chairs and paced & whined. "Why are you looking at my brother? What's wrong with Henry? Nothing's wrong with Henry. Henry you're fine, right? HENRY! HENRY!"

The eye vet & the vet tech even commented on how connected the boys were. That is when I took the time to explain the unhealthy dependence the boys have. Well, let me rephrase, the unhealthy dependence Benjamin has on Henry.

Without, Henry for an extended period of time, Benny will fret & worry himself to death. The same goes when Henry is hurt. When Henry had his knee surgery, Benjamin was a mess. He almost took it harder than Henry.

When Benny had to stay at the vet for an overnight many years ago, while Henry missed him, he was no worse for the wear. In fact, he had himself a grand 'ole day. He went to the pet store, grabbed some lunch at an outdoor eating spot. He was loving life.

Ultimately, Benny is just a big softie. He needs his Henry.

Gus, Be Good!

Henry

Once upon a time, I used to leave the house to go to work. It was when the boys were puppies & to help them burn off some of their puppy energy we used to take them to doggie day care once a week. Unlike a lot of their classmates, once a week was all they needed. They came home pooped. Taking them more than once a week would have been more than they could handle.

It worked out good for us & the boys really seemed to like going to school to play. That is of course on days when Gus wasn't there. Gus, was a Dachshund that terrorized Henry. I got the impression that Gus gave a lot of dogs trouble, but Henry always seemed to be Gus's desired target. The phrase, "Gus, be good!" was frequently heard at the doggy day care center. To this day, if you utter those words, Henry will look around for the little terror.

So when I was scanning in photos of the boys in the snow, I came across a few pictures taken while they were at doggie day care by their "teacher". Gus, is the dog in the bottom right corner of the picture below. What I love about the picture is that Henry is glancing back to Benny saying, "I've had it with this hot dog! I'm going to pummel him, ya got my back?"

Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

Cupid & Benjamin

To give you an idea of how cold it was during our recent cold snap, here is a shot of Cupid trying to keep herself warm under a blanket on the couch. Now, the odd part isn't that Cupid is snuggling under the blanket, but that she dares to share the couch with Benny. Benny, by far, is her least favorite pug and the fact that she would even consider laying so close to him shows exactly how cold it was here. I think the expression is something like "when hell freezes over". Well, hell may not have froze, but Florida sure did.
