The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. I can’t really say why, I just always seem to enjoy the day. When we lived in Maryland we would always go to D.C. and watch the fireworks at the Mall. It was always a great show.
Now that we are in Florida, things are a bit different. It seems that everyone if Florida, at least where I am at, likes to put on their own fireworks show. Which, if no one manages to blow their hand off, is all well and good I guess, but must you start setting off the fireworks on July 1st? And if this year is anything like last year, why are we still setting off fireworks on July 10th? Having fireworks set off so close drives Benjamin, Henry & Luna crazy! Suddenly there are loud booms coming from everywhere at all hours of the night and they have no clue why. Their natural instinct is to bark, and I can’t really blame them. So until all my neighbors run out of fireworks, the pugs will be on edge and you can be sure that they will be barking their heads off.
How does your pug react to the sound of fireworks?
On Friday night I gave the pugs a bath. Everything was business as usual. The pugs each took turns and they ran around the house after they were all cleaned up. As I was finishing up in the bathroom, the pugs came barreling in and were wrestling around. That is when I noticed one of them was bleeding all over the tile. We quickly determined that it was Benjamin. In all his running around, he must have cracked his toenail because that was were all the blood was coming from. However, it must not have hurt because it didn’t slow him down one bit. We got the bleeding stopped in no time and then I braced myself to see the damage. I was quite surprised at how much ground Benny had covered since his bath. He had blood from one end of the house to the other. Luckily, most of it was on the tile which made for easy cleanup. However, he did manage to get quite a bit of blood on our comforter. You know the one.
So I figured that now would be a good time to give the blood setting on the washing machine a try again. It has gotten blood out of clothes in the past so I was keeping my fingers crossed hoping it would work its magic again.
The blood setting takes forever, so I threw the comforter in the wash and went on to other things. When the washer was finally done we pulled it out and looked it over to see if the blood stains came out. The good news is the blood came out! The bad news is that in some spots it turned the red circles into orange circles! It must have mistaken them for blood
So now our comforter is a nice gradient. I couldn’t keep from laughing. If someone remarks that the circles are orange, I am just going to correct them and tell them they aren’t orange, their Benjamin’s version of red.
Being the good Americans that we are, we have setup the furniture in the living room so every seat has a good view of the TV. The pugs, however, have a different set of requirements for room arrangement. They would prefer if every seat had a good view out the front door.
The coveted spot is the arm of the sofa closest to the front door. From there you have a clear view out the front door and the coziness of the throw pillows.
The next best spot is the back of the sofa. This spot is only used by Benny and he loves that! Henry is no where near agile enough to perch himself on the back of the sofa considering the sofa does not back to a wall.
Coming in third is the far clamshell chair in the living room. It is the farthest option, but it does offer a clear view.
Since Luna doesn’t see too well, she rarely uses any of these options. She prefers a center stage, front row seat on the rug by the door. It always makes me sad because she loves to look out the door and I know she doesn’t see so well. I wish the boys wouldn’t bark at everyone that walked down the street, but I love it when Luna spots someone out the door and barks. It lets me know that she can see and that makes me feel good.
Benny is pouting because he knows I am about to clean his dirty little wrinkles. It is hot and humid and he has been out playing a lot lately and all those things make his wrinkles a mess. Got to keep on top of my cranky old man’s wrinkles
Luna has really taken a liking to the bag of loot we got for the pugs a few weeks ago. Instead of having a squeaker it has crinkle stuff and boy does she ever make some noise with that thing.
