Henry is not in the business of giving or getting kisses. The closest you can get to getting a kiss from him is licks on your eyelids at bedtime. Other than that, you get nothing. And to top it all off, he despises getting kisses, which is a real shame because he has the most kissable cheeks.
But, despite the fact that he hates kisses, he gets plenty from me. I am forever sneaking in and giving him a big kiss on his cheek. He has learned to tolerate it, but if I try to sneak in two or three at a time, he glares at me. Strangers have tried to give him kisses and he turns into such a wiggle worm and storms off at the first opportunity he gets.
Benny & Luna, on the other hand, well they are a whole different story! Is your pug a kisser?
By now I think everyone knows that Benjamin has a thing for pumpkin bread. So when it isn’t Fall, Benjamin is sad because there is no pumpkin bread. Well, fear not! I think we have found a possible replacement to get him through Spring and Summer - blueberry bread. Blueberry bread is the latest bread choice at Bob Evans and we have been bringing some home to the pugs. They most definitely like it. They don’t love it as much as pumpkin bread, but it is definitely a good second choice.
On a side note, when I take photos where I put the bread on the glass table and have the pugs wait until I snap the photo, Luna always cracks me up. She always sticks her head underneath the glass and tries to smell and lick the bread. Guess she is learning about a little thing called the “glass ceiling.”
My favorite question that non-pug owners ask me about pugs is, “Do they shed?” I quickly answer YES to that question, but I feel like I can never be emphatic enough. How exactly do you express to someone that doesn’t have a pug just how much that pugs shed? While Benjamin, Henry & Luna shed year round, now is most definitely shedding season and they are all, no doubt, getting rid of excess fur for the summer. You can’t really tell because of the shadows in the picture but the grass is littered with pug fur. This was the result of a quick brushing of each of the pugs and I was shocked at how much fur came off them considering I had just brushed them on Sunday.
Each time I brush them, the same thought runs through my head, “What do people that have a fawn and a black pug do?” How do they cope with the light and dark colored fur? What do you wear? No matter what fur is going to show on something. We have light colored carpet so the pug fur doesn’t tell on us as much in between vacuuming. If I am going somewhere important I never wear black. Black has a great way of highlighting fawn colored pug fur!
The other thing that made me realize just how much pugs shed was buying my first canister vacuum. I never realized how much bagged vacuum cleaners shelter you from the truth. With a canister vacuum, after running the vacuum, all your dirt is right there for you to see. I’ll never forget the first time I ran my Dyson and saw how much pug fur it picked up. I was shocked! I just figured my old vacuum wasn’t doing a very good job, but when I ran the Dyson again the next day and saw the canister filled with pug fur again I was speechless. All this fur came from my house? In just one day? No way!
Luckily, I am not one of those people who can’t stand a little pet fur here or there. I do my best to keep up with it, but I have come to terms with the fact that it is an impossible battle to win.
While Benny, Henry & Luna eat food that we make for them, I give them a tiny bit of Wellness kibble here and there so that if something like a hurricane would happen we could switch to kibble and the pugs would be no worse for the wear. When I scoop out the dry food Benny always makes me laugh so I thought I would record it to share a little bit of his food excitement with you.
On a side note, I have been loving the Flip video camera. It makes creating little videos so easy and it could not possibly be easier to use.
