This weekend was a great weekend for pug and parents! We got almost all of our usual weekend to do items done on Friday night so that we could have some free time on Saturday and Sunday. We went to the grocery store, cut the grass, made the dog food bowls for the week and replenished our stock of turkey by cooking and freezing 14 packages of ground turkey.
We didn’t finish cooking the turkey until about 10ish on Friday night and Baby Benny was so cute because he was falling asleep while sitting up. The turkey can not be cooked without him supervising and he was trying so hard to stay awake until we were completely finished.
Saturday morning we went for a long walk with the pugs before it got too hot. It was a beautiful day and a great walk. When we got back home we went out for a little fun and some shopping giving the pugs a chance to catch a nap. Later that night we caught up on all the TV shows we recorded and the pugs when to work on their knucklebones.
Sunday started much like Saturday in that we took the pugs for a long walk right after Luna finished reading the paper. Then we went to the gym and hopped in the pool for a bit when we got home to cool off. Much to Benjamin & Luna’s liking we didn’t stay in the pool long. The rest of Sunday was just a lazy afternoon. The pugs were happy relaxing in the sun and of course Benjamin was begging to have a chance to chew his knucklebone bone on Sunday night. He is completely obsessed with those bones!
On Sunday, we gave the pugs their first ever knucklebones. In the past I have shied away from knucklebones in favor of rib bones because the rib bones seem like they are a better size for the pugs and have a lot less gunk on them. But on Sunday, they were out of rib bones so I settled for the knucklebones. Plus, secretly, I had always wanted to see what Benjamin, Henry & Luna’s reaction would be to the size of these massive treats.
Needless to say they were more than pleased with the knucklebones. In fact, they were wondering why I had been buying them those tiny little rib bones when they had knucklebones all along.
The funniest part of watching them eat the bones was listening to the noises they made. They snorted, grunted, sighed and made all kinds of sounds trying to clean off the bones. I got a little bit of Henry on video going to town on his knucklebone. Turn the sound up and you’ll hear all the noise he was making. Notice how even the cat was interested in getting a smell.
I only let the pugs chew the bones for about an hour every few days. Henry actually gets a little less time because he is a much more effective chewer. I don’t want them to overdo it. There is a lot of gunk on those bones and much to their chagrin I think they should pace themselves.
I just received an e-mail from Brenda at Delaware Valley Pug Rescue with an update on Romeo. Brenda writes:
I have great news. Romeo is at home with his foster family recovering from the surgery and seems to be doing very well. At this point, their biggest challenge is getting him to relax and not want to play all the time. (Although wanting to play is certainly a good sign.)
The donations received to date allowed us to give the vet a down payment for the surgery so it could be performed while we continue to raise the funds necessary to cover the balance.
We are so grateful to you and your readers for all of their support and generous donations. I’ll let you know how he continues to progress, but it looks like Romeo should be ready for a new forever family in no time.
I would like to send out a huge thank you to all the OBP readers that sent in a donation. Your support means a lot to me!
If you would still like to donate you may do so be sending a check to:

By now you are probably thinking, “How many pictures of the pugs snuggled in the pillows could she possible post?” Plenty. I post a lot as it is and although it may not seem like it I do try to show some restraint.
But I had to post this one because it seems Luna has finally learned to love the pillows as much as her brothers.
The boys are always snuggled into the pillows and when they settle they usually sleep there for quite a while. Luna, on the other hand, never really slept on the pillows much. She always found other spots to make herself comfortable. Until recently that is. It seems that she has really taken a liking to the pillows and you can pretty much find her there anytime the boys are there.
It is fun to watch how she is slowly becoming just like the boys.
