I sure could use another 3 days off

Benjamin, Henry & Luna

This weekend was one of those times when I need a few more days off to rest up from all the work from the weekend.  We were up on the early side every day of this long, holiday weekend and it seems like we didn’t sit down until it was time to go to bed.

Our main project this weekend was sprucing up the yard.  Our first goal was to do something with the small area between the pool and the air conditioner outside and the picture above is what we came up with.  Before, it was just an area where the grass struggled to grow.  So we laid down the stepping stones and added some plants that help to block the view of the air condition from the lanai.  All in all it turned out very well even it if did take all afternoon on Friday.

On Saturday, we put the finishing touches on some pots we were painting for the yard.  We ran errands in between coats while we were waiting for the paint to dry.

On Sunday, we planted flowers into the pots that we painted.  We have them set throughout the garden and after we planted the flowers we had to have the pugs pose with them, of course.

We also got a pot to put by the front door to keep Buddha company.

Much to the neighbors amusement we have a little concrete fire hydrant in the front yard for the pugs and all the small dogs in the neighborhood to use.  We gave it a good power washing and painted it to match the pots.

No Rush

Getting ready to storm

This was the sight on Tuesday afternoon when I was out trying to get Henry to go potty.  I was getting ready to leave the house for a bit and needed to take the pugs out to do their business before I left.  Luna was up first and went right away.  Henry was next and in true Henry fashion he drug things out for as long as he possibly could.  I don’t know what it is about him, but it takes the boy forever to poop.  He likes to make a whole walk out of it.  And I don’t have unrealistic expectations.  I know he has to poop and he knows he has to poop, he just wants to walk a mile away from home to do it.

As we are standing on the corner and Henry is off in his own little world sniffing every blade of grass, I snapped this picture with my phone of the storm moving in.  To get home, we have to go back down the street, right towards the ominous cloud.  Henry wasn’t concerned.  We started to head back home, even though Henry never did his business, because I knew Benny still had to go out to go potty.  Benny would not be happy if I let Henry stay out until it started to rain and he had to head out for his turn in the rain.  So, I took Henry home and brought out Benny and the fear of getting wet made Benny go potty right away.  I brought Henry back out and he smelled around until it started to pour.  At that point, I was done.  We ran back home and Henry was grinning from ear-to-ear the whole way.

Let Freedom Ring - Quietly

Benjamin, Henry & Luna

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays.  I can’t really say why, I just always seem to enjoy the day.  When we lived in Maryland we would always go to D.C. and watch the fireworks at the Mall.  It was always a great show.

Now that we are in Florida, things are a bit different.  It seems that everyone if Florida, at least where I am at, likes to put on their own fireworks show.  Which, if no one manages to blow their hand off, is all well and good I guess, but must you start setting off the fireworks on July 1st?  And if this year is anything like last year, why are we still setting off fireworks on July 10th?  Having fireworks set off so close drives Benjamin, Henry & Luna crazy!  Suddenly there are loud booms coming from everywhere at all hours of the night and they have no clue why.  Their natural instinct is to bark, and I can’t really blame them.  So until all my neighbors run out of fireworks, the pugs will be on edge and you can be sure that they will be barking their heads off.

How does your pug react to the sound of fireworks?

Caption This #63

Benjamin

Benny was scratching at the bin with the knucklebones in it so I dumped it on the floor so he could have first pick.  He picked them all.

Looking forward to your captions in the comments.

One Man Wrecking Crew

Benjamin

On Friday night I gave the pugs a bath.  Everything was business as usual.  The pugs each took turns and they ran around the house after they were all cleaned up.  As I was finishing up in the bathroom, the pugs came barreling in and were wrestling around. That is when I noticed one of them was bleeding all over the tile.  We quickly determined that it was Benjamin.  In all his running around, he must have cracked his toenail because that was were all the blood was coming from.  However, it must not have hurt because it didn’t slow him down one bit.  We got the bleeding stopped in no time and then I braced myself to see the damage.  I was quite surprised at how much ground Benny had covered since his bath.  He had blood from one end of the house to the other.  Luckily, most of it was on the tile which made for easy cleanup.  However, he did manage to get quite a bit of blood on our comforter.  You know the one.

The Comforter

So I figured that now would be a good time to give the blood setting on the washing machine a try again.  It has gotten blood out of clothes in the past so I was keeping my fingers crossed hoping it would work its magic again.

The blood setting takes forever, so I threw the comforter in the wash and went on to other things.  When the washer was finally done we pulled it out and looked it over to see if the blood stains came out.  The good news is the blood came out!  The bad news is that in some spots it turned the red circles into orange circles!  It must have mistaken them for blood wink

So now our comforter is a nice gradient.  I couldn’t keep from laughing.  If someone remarks that the circles are orange, I am just going to correct them and tell them they aren’t orange, their Benjamin’s version of red.

Best Seats in the House

Benjamin, Henry & Luna

Being the good Americans that we are, we have setup the furniture in the living room so every seat has a good view of the TV.  The pugs, however, have a different set of requirements for room arrangement.  They would prefer if every seat had a good view out the front door.

Benjamin, Henry & Luna

The coveted spot is the arm of the sofa closest to the front door.  From there you have a clear view out the front door and the coziness of the throw pillows.

Benjamin

The next best spot is the back of the sofa.  This spot is only used by Benny and he loves that!  Henry is no where near agile enough to perch himself on the back of the sofa considering the sofa does not back to a wall.

Henry

Coming in third is the far clamshell chair in the living room.  It is the farthest option, but it does offer a clear view.

Since Luna doesn’t see too well, she rarely uses any of these options.  She prefers a center stage, front row seat on the rug by the door.  It always makes me sad because she loves to look out the door and I know she doesn’t see so well.  I wish the boys wouldn’t bark at everyone that walked down the street, but I love it when Luna spots someone out the door and barks.  It lets me know that she can see and that makes me feel good.

Woe is Me

Benjamin

Benny is pouting because he knows I am about to clean his dirty little wrinkles.  It is hot and humid and he has been out playing a lot lately and all those things make his wrinkles a mess.  Got to keep on top of my cranky old man’s wrinkles grin
