Helpers

Benjamin, Henry and Luna

We have been doing a lot of yard work lately and since the weather has been so nice the pugs have been "helping" us.

So they can help and we can have our hands free, we use 15' leashes and hook them to a stake in the ground. We setup some towels and a bowl a water near the front door so that they can have shade when they want it but they can also get a little sun.

When we first go out into the yard, they start out full steam ahead, sitting in the sun. But, after about 15 minutes of watching us work they have retreated back to the shade.

Homegrown

Over the weekend, we picked our first sweet potato from the garden. It was the first time we ever tried our hand at growing sweet potatoes and we were pleasantly surprised to find a potato growing under the dirt. When we planted the plants, I was kinda thinking we weren't going to have much luck.

So, now that we have this sweet potato, I need to find something to do with it. I thought about putting it in a soup I make, but I don't have any of the soup's other ingredients on hand. We need to make more food for the pugs tonight so I think I will bake it in the oven and add it to the pugs food. They love sweet potatoes and I am sure they would love to be the first tasters of the homegrown sweet potato.

Celestial

Luna

One day, when we were out and about, we spotted these sun and moon garden stakes. Of course they reminded us of Luna and Sol. And since we are always looking for ways to spruce up the garden, we bought them and couldn't wait to get home and find a perfect spot for them in the garden. Luna enjoyed posing by her moon and the sun is a perfect reminder of Sol.

I also wanted to share with you the garden flag that Sue VDB had made for us. It could not have been a more perfect gift and when we get home from our walks in the evening I always make sure to say hi to Solsey Baby. Thanks so much, Sue!

Perspective

To me those bags of mulch represent a lot of work. To Benny, it is the most massive pile of treats ever!

Veggies

Luna

We are trying our hand at growing some veggies this Fall. Just writing that sentence is absurd to me, but that is the northern gal in me. This is Florida and it is actually a good time for to grow certain veggies here. So, we are trying our hand at peppers, on the left side in the picture above, and broccoli, on the right side in the picture above. This is my first attempt at ever growing broccoli so we will see how things turn out.

I hope the pugs do a good job with the veggies like they did with Mimo. Little Mimo is now taller than the house!

I sure could use another 3 days off

Benjamin, Henry & Luna

This weekend was one of those times when I need a few more days off to rest up from all the work from the weekend.  We were up on the early side every day of this long, holiday weekend and it seems like we didn’t sit down until it was time to go to bed.

Our main project this weekend was sprucing up the yard.  Our first goal was to do something with the small area between the pool and the air conditioner outside and the picture above is what we came up with.  Before, it was just an area where the grass struggled to grow.  So we laid down the stepping stones and added some plants that help to block the view of the air condition from the lanai.  All in all it turned out very well even it if did take all afternoon on Friday.

On Saturday, we put the finishing touches on some pots we were painting for the yard.  We ran errands in between coats while we were waiting for the paint to dry.

On Sunday, we planted flowers into the pots that we painted.  We have them set throughout the garden and after we planted the flowers we had to have the pugs pose with them, of course.

We also got a pot to put by the front door to keep Buddha company.

Much to the neighbors amusement we have a little concrete fire hydrant in the front yard for the pugs and all the small dogs in the neighborhood to use.  We gave it a good power washing and painted it to match the pots.

How was your weekend?
